What the green matting
It's Durabase tile matting, if you watch the video before this one I show how to lay it.
Ehats the difference between rendering and plastering?
coating outside walls is referred to as rendering while covering inside walls to make them ready to be painted is called plastering, hope this helps.
Did you use a speed skim on the second coat?, thanks
is it possible to shorten one edge if the rubber has already been added. The roof overhang is too long and we need to shorten by 15 cm
@irenemarshall4528 I have never tried but I think that if you have already stuck the rubber then you won’t be able to get it up,
Just that annoying area third from left and halfway down that still needed another 10 mins or so to flatten off completely! Always an area that sets too slow,…or too quick! Nice work!
Great work, can the EPDM be laid on top of current felt on my leaking flat roof! Also I have a roof lantern 2m x 2m, how do you get around that please?
@@sarfrazusman3067 no it can’t it has to be stuck down it will not stick to felt
@ ok thanks for your response. Any chance you can carry out the work at mine?
Should have took the skirting boards off first if they ever have to come off in the future there boxed inn and cause damage to the wall on removing sponging works though I've tried this method
Do you use a different trowel for the 2nd coat, or the same for both coats?
I usually use the same trowel for both coats and then a finishing trowel to polish it up
Do you use the speed skim on the 2nd coat? Great to watch an expert make it look so easy!
@@simonhep Hi thanks for watching, yes I do use the speed skim on the second coat usually on bigger ceilings but if it’s just a Small ceiling I don’t normally bother as you have a lot more time
Oh nice, I bet I can find that skimming edge online... what's the best name for it so I look it up!! Fantastic!

Can the rubber be joined where there is a dogleg on the roof
Legend! First 40 seconds of this video was a massive sigh of relief.
looks a good job im looking to do a wall or two at home myself
Was taught the sponge way 35yrs ago since i left, I've never used it as a total waste of time in my option
@@TrevorCoe-zw8fo And you’re welcome to your opinion
👍
Just adding more work to a job that doesn’t need to be done
@@leopaul1774 Your opinion matey every one knows better
True biggest problem with plastering put on 2 much skim to tight coats that is a lot of work he is doing
Thanks for this,blessings from Glasgow..
THEY SAY ALL THE GOOD SPREADS ARE IN THE BONE YARD. 😂
Why do you need a sponge to get it flat cowboy 🤠 it's flat already, yeehaa ,and you posted it 😅😅😅😅😅😅, pointless,
All the gear and NO IDEA. 😂
do you not wash and wipe down ceiling, adjacent walls. skirting and dig out excess plaster from electric sockets when finished? Guess you will leave that for the next guy when it will be 100 times harder and also risk cracking plaster around sockets - I hate plasters you don't leave a tidy job personally. I'm not saying you will leave it - as you are still there and I know you were just doing it the sponge technique for the video. Good job and yes being under 5'10" you are correct it helps to be taller in a 2.4 std ceiling house.
Never assume!
@@SBanderaB I always cut out plaster from sockets
can this be laiyed on top of current felt
@@MoragBorland definitely not
If boarded horizontal you dont get boards cracking and it has more structural strength
@@petergray882 how does it have more structural strength out of interest?
Strengthen studs ,long ways you have a 2.4 vertical joint were as horizontal joint it's only 1.2 and staggered also another weak spot at door frames ,shouldn't be and joints in line with door frames ,too much movement, prone to cracking
You only have a 1.2 joint running on a single upright stud rather than a 2.4 ,it's braced better if you know what I mean
@@petergray882 yeah it does crack above the doors with them slamming. I’ve seen that loads
@@petergray882 it makes sense what your saying. Trouble is no one can be arsed. There all running round like headless chickens trying to make it pay on pricework
Scrim tape is no grantee to stop cracking ,it stops gear falling out of joint
@@petergray882 what’s your suggestion then?
Overboard horizontal or try more screws
@@petergray882 are you saying that it can’t crack if laid horizontally?
it will for 99% of cases,,,,, if there is too much movement then you will need to open up and refit or refill Scrim tape is 100% the tried and tested solution.
It all cracks in time anyway. Just easi fill when you next decorate

Have you laid indian stone indoors on UFH before? Can’t seem to find any videos
@@paulmcdonald6392 No I haven’t
good video, thanks. I'm laying this for the first time, it's going onto a newly poured (but cured) liquid concrete screed UFH slab, what primer would you recommend? I'm then laying 22mm Indian Sandstone flags on top of the Durabase, what ahesive would you recomend?
@@mandmprops I use the BAL primer from Topps tiles along with there own brand floor tile adhesive I have never had a problem with it and it’s a good price
Hi mate, noticed you don’t flatten in with your trowel, do you always just use a Speedskim and follow it up with 2 wet trowels ?
Couldn’t see any of it just need to get camera angles closer
You're last comment made me laugh and yes I was listening 😅 I haven't plastered in years and last week did a vaulted ceiling. Great job looking fabulous. I start at bottom because when plaster first mixed and more runny I don't drop plaster by the time I do tops just right consistency for me.
I do the same. Easier to pull the slippy gear up the wall for the first 5 mins. 5 mins in and it loses that glossy slippy feeling a bit and it's easier to pull the tops in.
Where did you get the render from and the colour match. I need to repair the render on a base coat. Do I just apply it on proud then scrape off the excess with a Rasp?
When laying the underlay do you have to tape them together?
@@pamturner5789 some underlays you have to tape them but this underlay the instructions didn’t show it being taped together .
@ Thank you.
I had some plaster drop into my eye.
Not a nice feeling
@worklife4221 nope 😩
Can i ask, when u mark the centre of the wall does the first brick go bang in the middle or two bricks either side of the centre line?
What size timber are you using? Have a similar property and need to tackle this myself, cheers

@@chrisdaviesguitar 2 water 1 Pva
Amazing work anyway sir I need to work with you sir if you like I’m a new plaster but I already learned enough from you know thanks for sharing us your skills I appreciate you
That was a very usefull video thanks. Before you started you said you had to dub out the bottom of the wall. What plaster did you use for that.I have a similar problem on a wall that I am about to have to go.
I used thistle bonding for dubbing out just make sure that you give a good coat of PVA before applying the bonding
Hi, has the ceiling been tested for asbestos? Is there any risk in disturbing artex while plastering? What if there was mould on the artex ceiling? Would you plaster over it? Thank you.
@@Skrzacik-vk5kl This ceiling was tested negative for asbestos although as long as you are not disturbing the artex with a scraper and you pva over it then its fine to plaster but if there are any signs of flaking then get it tested is my advice
Great video - thanks
Can you prime the board with waterproofer to give it an extra layer of protection, let dry and then apply the WBA adhesive? Will it still bind to the wood underneath?
I’m not absolutely sure but you should not need to as nothing will get through the rubber, maybe email the company and check with them
Yeah I thought so, only because I'm going to be pricing a flat roof repair, possible re-roof on grade 2 listed building, the clients are quite saddened by the constant presence of leaks. So, for peace of mind I wondered whether to include this in price, though I know deep down, the rubber and proper installation is good enough.. I may prime the underside of board before pinning down, then carry on as normal? What do you think? Thanks for the promt response to mate 🤙🏽
Good review 👍!!
thanks for the really clear and helpful video
