Jan 2022 Testing Cobra
A quick summary of our Jan 2022 testing of the Cobra Saddle.
The purpose of this testing is to test the saddles ability to take the forces related to a fall and keep the user from hitting the ground. Thats it. This is not a test of ropes, knots, friction hitches, saddle positions or scenarios.

    I wound up modifying the design so that there is a continuous web strap on each panel so that the two panels will adjust in relation to each other. With the two panels independent of each other they cannot adjust as you move one up or down for comfort.

      I also added thigh straps like climbing saddles have to keep the saddle top panel from riding up my back when rope climbing .

    Do the same thing except use 1” strapping. Girth hitch loop for boot and body weight will make it tight (no need for rubber over strap) and will not come off boot. Really tight. No need to make adjustable. Just determine step Length you want. I use 18”

    Great job! I also love supporting small businesses, so I placed an order as well. You will and would gain so much traction on youtube if you reposted these videos with the common language for the title. Climbing with 2 aiders. or 2 aiders climbing sytem. or Lightweight climbing system. Lighter than 1 sticking something like that to be able to showcase these things to an audience that only sees UA-cam-recommended videos. It would help so many people

    Great idea but I wonder if a coated cable would be quiter. That noise will 100% alert mature deer. Maybe not younger deer and if it doesn’t matter to you than you do you. You could bend the fender washer like you did then plasti dip it and a coated cable and I think one or both would silenced it. Stealth strip is the best thing and that’s what i would personally use on the cable and the washer. It’s cheap and once you put it on it’s not coming off.

    • @douglashoward5757
      @douglashoward5757 9 місяців тому

      Yeah I used coated and just ran it through the stand off. So it doesn't slide against the main beam just the stand off. Taped the end and it's dead silent now.

    • @jax9224
      @jax9224 Рік тому

      Make sure to use stealth strip to silence it and then it’s a great idea. It’s a very good idea the way it is but that sound would drive me crazy and I would have to stealth strip the cable and the washer

    Hi Jerry. Greetings from Northern Ontario, Canada. Could you tell me, how important is it to use full bury rope? Is there any other option, such as up sizing diameter? Is there a way I could make my own full bury rope? Can’t find any videos on how to do this. Would really love to go to a light weight system like yours. This old guy is getting tired of lugging heavy packs through the bush.

    Are you standing up with your dominant leg or wrapping the tree with your dominant leg? I just tried this method on a similar tree and found it extremely difficult to be hands free to advance my main tether.

    I know this an old video but damn I dont know why there's people bitching about the camera work. I watched this video and within 30 mins had a 2 step built and hanging in a tree. Worst part is dulling out scissors and fishing the bury through . Other then that it's pretty straight forward. Thanks man for uploading this.

    I am interested in evaluating how well this could work for caving applications where drops can be in excess of 100 ft. I would like to know how your experience with wet rope has been? How smoothly is it rappeling on a long 12 mm rope (which would be commonly what you would find in caving applications)?

    • @badboznam
      @badboznam Рік тому

      I use it for canyoning. 100ft drops means it gets real hot. Wet rope is fine as it's designed for that purpose. I assume you mean 12mm single rope, that's on the higher end. I think the standard for big drops are rap rack for heat dissipation

    In part 1 you said you would discuss how to use our own measurements to make a better fitting saddle in part 2. I watched part 2 and 3 and must have missed it. How wide do you make yours and or what parts of your body are you using for overall width, Hip bone to hip bone, or that plus 3,4,5" etc?

    You asked a better way to get the loop back through the lock. I make my loop just large enough to fit over itself with no protective sleeve. After it’s done slide the protective sleeve over the eye and down the Amsteel then girth hitch the aider to the step. Slide the protective sleeve through the eye to be inside the hitch. Make sense? Also, I bought muy aiders and I think they made three individual steps with only the first step having the eyes. The second two steps are brummel locked onto the step above. I haven’t tried building it yet.

    Try using a fid for the bury. Easier than fishing wire through the core.

    • @jerrygrose468
      @jerrygrose468 2 роки тому

      I use a fid for 3/16 and up, but wirenworks well for the smaller diameters. It's also hard to find a 7ft fid for full burys!

    This looks like the best way to make a multi step aider. I wish you would have had better video with close ups of how you do your splicing and knots. Much of the most important fastenings were out of the field of view and so far from the camera, we can't see how you were doing them. Have you, by any chance done a remake or considered doing one? If you could get a second person to operate the camera on a tripod or gimbal, it could all be covered. But it looks like an excellent end product
