Newport Carnival

The Isle of Wight comes alive at the thought of carnivals and what a great way to kick off the carnival season with making your way to Newport Carnival.
Traditionally, Newport has been the first carnival of the summer carnival season, with the first procession being at the end of July, normally around the time Schools break up for their summer holidays.
It’s not just the one procession that takes place here in Newport, there is also another, Illuminated procession that fills the central town of the Island with colour and light.
Throughout the year, Newport Carnival hosts other events such as their popular Christmas Parade that cascades around the town, before finishing in the square ready for the Grand Christmas Lights Switch On.

Reading Scottish Pipe Band visited The Newport Minster on the Isle of Wight on Saturday 20th July 2024 as part of Newport Carnival Day entertainment.

Just shy of 100 band members, past and present, came together to perform last time for Kevin Hayward at the Isle of Wight Crematorium. Born and bred in Newport, would of been a teenager in the crowd, use to watch from by the Cranbourne pub junction of Trafalgar Road nice to see the video
Born and bred in Newport on the Island, watch loads of IoW videos on UA-cam, but never see myself or anyone I know, remember the river Medina when it was still a working river in the 60s, ships from Vectis Shipping, Mew Langton, and Moreys Timber lining the quayside, all changed now
