THE THING (1982) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching
The Thing is a 1982 American science fiction horror film directed by John Carpenter from a screenplay by Bill Lancaster. Based on the 1938 John W. Campbell Jr. novella Who Goes There?, it tells the story of a group of American researchers in Antarctica who encounter the eponymous "Thing", an extraterrestrial life-form that assimilates, then imitates, other organisms. The group is overcome by paranoia and conflict as they learn that they can no longer trust each other and that any of them could be the Thing. The film stars Kurt Russell as the team's helicopter pilot R.J. MacReady, with A. Wilford Brimley, T. K. Carter, David Clennon, Keith David, Richard Dysart, Charles Hallahan, Peter Maloney, Richard Masur, Donald Moffat, Joel Polis, and Thomas G. Waites in supporting roles.

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching
Переглядів 103 тис.28 днів тому
2001: A Space Odyssey is a 1968 epic science fiction film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The screenplay was written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, and it was inspired by multiple short stories by Clarke, including "The Sentinel" (1951). Clarke also published a novelisation of the film, in part written concurrently with the screenplay, after the film's release. 2001: A Space Odyssey...
No Coby. The dog wasn't theirs to begin with. He originally belonged to the Norway team most likely. He ran up to the USA team licking whoever he could find because he wanted safety. I thought the movie made that very clear.
Its funny how we're now experiencing something similar at the moment. Only that instead of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. it's *CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE BULLSHIT PLANNED KIND*
The special effects guy won so many awards for this movie. There wasn't any CGI, this was all special effects.
Blair was the guy from the "Diabetes" commercials, Wilford Brimley.
Didn't this chick have other videos? What happened?...
the dude you're tripping on was the nazi scientist guy in Raiders fo the Lost Ark who burns his hand on the medallion.
37:30 @CobyShow Cool you compared it to Reservoir Dogs. Tarantino’s a big fan of The Thing. He took some unused music from The Thing and put it in Hateful Eight.
No, it was a Husky lol. There are no native canine species in Antarctica that I'm aware of. I heard from someone who speaks Norwegian that the guy in the helicopter says something like "You fools, get away from it! That's not a dog!"
35:54 “Does he even know that they’re _dating?”_ 🤔 That is a _very_ ironic question, Coby.
42:15 And now you see why.
43:21 “He cheated on her, they _had_ a relationship and he _wiped_ her!” They had a _physical_ relationship.
The 2011 "The Thing" is NOT a remake. It is the story of what happened at the Norwegian camp and ends with the two survivors chasing the thing in dog form, towards the American camp and the beginning of this movie.
Welcome to the 40+ year discussion. Who is the Thing at the end or or both human. You can make a case for either one either way.
I was born in Muncie In
I still wanna know how the contract negations went with Russel’s hat, it has to have the biggest ego possible. Had to have its own special trailer during filming, first class airfare, piles of coke and a rider with caviar. And if any hat earned that, it’s this one.
“Among Us” the movie.
Creature features creature features! Definitely need to watch ghost and the darkness, tremors, lake placid, anaconda, deep blue sea, tremors and the relic.
My favorite horror movie of all time.
LoL like an idiot I was yelling at Coby " that's not a real dog!!!" Over and over
For a more comedy sci fi movie check out 'Dark Star.'
Space Diabeetus is no joke. Your dog is like a Teddy bear come to life.
Thank you for reacting to this crazy movie.
Coby, the look on your face says it all. Happy Holidays!
The remake you speak of is actually a prequel, its the story of the Norwegian camp
1:03:43 - sounds like every ex-boyfriend
Keith David had a memorable role in Platoon. Wilford Brimley also had a number of character roles in 80's movies, mainly.
The part when it absorbs the dogs is just the worst for me, I don't give a shit about any of the people dying, just that lol
Just asking, why did she shave her Pom?
Good observation about the opening scene. The "prequel" is mediocre.
Lisez les commentaires Coby. Ils contiennent une mine d'or d'infos de fondus du 7ème art, un régal à lire quand on ne sait pas et qu'on est curieux. Très chouette réaction comme d'habitude. Amitiés de France. Stéphane.
When I saw this movie as a child, I was traumatized 😑
Yeah, poor puppy dog, poor baby, you saw some things. sigh.
Did anyone get a count how many times she mentions Barry? 😅
I'm pretty baked, but Duck à l'orange made my day. Thank you Coby, love your reactions.
In 1977 UFO meant alien spaceship from another planet. You were laughed at or considered mentally off if you said you saw one.
Whenever I'm in a major Lovecraft mood, I watch "Alien" and "The Thing" as a double feature. Also, Rob Bottin was an absolute master of special effects during the 80's.
28:24 best scream ever i love it
Great reactions, Coby. Your screams attracted my son’s attention. He doesn’t watch reaction videos, but he thought you were amazing.
This movie scared the crap outta me as a Kid...I Live IN indiana- near CORNBREAD ROAD. (however near Muncie theres NO hilly cliffs LOL)
I have been a lover of sci-fi and monster movies my entire life and I'm probably in the minority on this, but this film is gross and boring (yes, the practical effects are fantastic, but that's about it). I much prefer the original film that this is loosely based on -- the 1951 sci-film "The Thing from Another World" co-directed by Christian Nyby and famous, popular film-maker Howard Hawks. It stars James Arness as "The Thing." Arness later starred as Marshal Matt Dillon in the long running tv series "Gunsmoke." James Arness' brother is Peter Graves, who played Captain Oveur in Airplane! and Airplane II (among many other very popular movies). Howard Hawks directed many of the most successful and critically acclaimed movies of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s including: --Bringing Up Baby (1938 screwball comedy with Cary Grant & Katherine Hepburn) --Only Angels Have Wings (1939 drama with Cary Grant & Rita Hayworth) --His Girl Friday (fantastic, very funny 1940 screwball comedy with Cary Grant & Rosalind Russell) --Sergeant York (1941 biopic & war movie with Gary Cooper) --Ball of Fire (1941 comedy with Gary Cooper & Barbara Stanwyck) --To Have & Have Not (1944 drama with Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall based on an Ernest Hemingway short story; first film with Bogie & Bacall, and Bacall's very first film) --The Big Sleep (1946 crime drama with Bogie & Bacall) --Red River (1946 western, generally considered one of John Wayne's best films) --Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953 musical romantic comedy with Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russell) --Rio Bravo (1959; frequently ranked one of the top 5 best western movies; with John Wayne, crooner Dean Martin, rock & roll singer Ricky Martin, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan) and many more...
Coby: "Don't you just fade to black!" John Carpenter 43 years ago: "You heard her... CUT TO BLACK!"
I just found out you had your own channel! Immediate sub.😃
An unpleasant duty has been masterly performed. An everlasting vision of evil has been burned into her memories. For no one, not even you, and you, nor you, ..........can unsee.......... THE THING!
Everyone always misses the noose in front of Blair. He is being calm as hell when it's clear he was about to kill himself. The thing got him before he could use the noose and didn't understand enough about humans to remove it
Good evening Ms. Coby, first time reactor as UA-cam was quite insistent haha. My favorite horror movie. Your reactions were priceless here. These effects still hold up to this day. There have been many theories to this ending. Some say Childes was infected because you couldn't see his breath, etc. There is a game that came out in the early 2000s and funny enough, it just got a release remaster.....in the game which is considered a sequel...and I guess in an interview back in the day John Carpenter considered it as such, you find Childe's body.....but not MaCreadys.....there is someone you never see laughing in the background in the beginning after you finish that part...... ironically at the end Macready saved you during the huge boss fight.... again, you don't know if he escaped originally or is really infected. There was a terrible comic series as a sequel to where both survive and continuing to fight the Thing in different continents which made no sense considering how bad the stories were. Looks like the comment section hits everything else which is great. And yes, I would watch the prequel done in 2011 called The Thing also. Great reaction overall, looking forward to more, glad UA-cam put you in my recommendations. Have a great Christmas 🎄🎁. P.S. I also recommend The Howling, same practical effects genius for that one as well, Rob Bottin. That one was 1981.
Good call on your part, Quentin Tarantino was inspired by The Thing 1982 when he made Reservoir Dogs.
You're right, Frank would definitely have been tethered. Also, George Lucas not only borrowed a lot from 2001 visually, but he based Star Wars heavily on Dune (the book, which was published in the 1960s.) Favorite line: "I'm not going to get it wrapped up in a bow, am I?" BTW, you're right, Jupiter is mostly gas; to the best of the astronomers' knowledge there is a rocky/metallic solid core far inside it; the planet's gravity causes the gas to gradually increase in density the deeper it goes, until it merges into liquid and eventually reaches solid material. Also, the moon has about 1/6 of Earth's gravity. Mars is about 1/3 of ours. Jupiter's gravity at its outer layers would be about triple Earth's. Since this was filmed, space probes have shown that Jupiter also has an intense radiation field around it that would be lethal to astronauts who weren't inside very heavy shielding, so that would have killed Dave long before he got to the monolith, but there were a lot of things we didn't know yet in 1968 (there almost certainly still are.)
As always CC, love the reactions… good to see you and take care.
Why didn't the pilot in the chopper jump out when the guy dropped the grenade? It is like no one even worried about mentioning the guy existed.
Yes Ms.Coby, the camp (the Norwegian camp) would freeze up quickly with all the holes and everything. It's Antarctica, very cold. Also, everyone thinks that when they bring the body(s) back from the other camp, it's not still smoking from being burned, it's been outside, in Antarctica, they brought it into a warm environment, the ice crystals that formed on it caused it to steam up. Great reaction, keep up the good work. Just my 2 cents
