असे वाचण्यात आले आहे की , स्व.पं.डाॅ. वसंतराव देशपांडे व त्या वेळेची उ.प्र.तील प्रसिद्ध गझल गायिका बेगम अख्तर ह्यांचे घरगुती संबंध होते . वसंतराव उ.प्र.च्या डेहराडून येथे मिलीटरी अकाऊंट्स डिपार्टमेंटमध्ये नोकरी करीत असतांना गायन साधना चालू असतांना एक दिवशी आई अत्त्यवस्थ असल्याची तार मिळाली . तात्काळ निघून ते लखनौला आले,तर कुठे ? तर बेगम अख्तरच्या घरी .तशी सुटी मिळणार नाही हे जाणून बेगमने आई अत्त्यवस्थ असल्याची तार केली होती .ती गायनात सहभागी व्हावे म्हणून !!!
