So the last main difference here (aside from almost everything else) from the original was the true ending. Besides the fact it IS NOT locked behind some stupid requirements no one can figure out despite the fact I wanted everyone to get this ending easily (thank you, Rocketman, for once again trying to sabotage things), the ending for the original has it where MC dies, but the next day Amy goes up to Natsuki to start the loop again. Basically creating an endless loop of misery and pain for Terankos's secret agenda. In STR, that is not the case, since Natsuki has a fighting chance to survive and possibly break the curse thanks to Mio and Yuri stepping in to protect her. And I mean, you will be getting more. In terms of the entire series as a whole, we're literally at work on Chapter 2 of Forlorn Heart and revamping the script for Captive Heart: Amor Prohibido, since it's going to get the same treatment as STR. In terms of STR MC specifically, well his story is not done yet. Which is why in the credits, I wanted to make sure people knew that his story isn't over (and also because I'm sort of tired of people asking me if this is part of a series or telling me they don't understand what's going on due to not playing the other mods). Should I hopefully not cancel the PWA, then the timelines for Shattered Time: Rewind, Captive Heart Amor Prohibido/Captive Heart: Original Me, and Night Nurse Remastered/Proper Stranger will continue and sort of "meet up" in Modern Crusaders to finish off some of these storylines. And yes, I gave Mio the Araki family name in honor of Araki and because the name sounded good when saying it out loud. I have a secret naming convention for all the characters, and one of the main things is whether or not the name sounds right to me. Which is why it's not "Kotonoha Kotobuki," or something that sounds clunky, for example. And if you REALLY want to see more Akane, the Forlorn Heart trilogy is what you're looking for. As of now, chapter 1 is all we have. A revised chapter 1 that fixes a few issues with coding and spelling will come out once all three chapters are out. I'm aware mods centered around OCs don't do well, but I took the gamble. Even though a majority of people don't care about "pointless OCs," Team Traitor doesn't feel that way. Which is why we give the spotlight to characters like Mio, Kotonoha, and Amy. And considering how important she is to me (carrying memories of me and Darlene at her very core), that goes double for Akane. To me, she's more than just some "pointless OC." She's not my pet. She's not just some soulless OC you can assign a personality to. She is a tribute to someone that meant a lot to me. A mix of some of her qualities with mine.

To the people who wrote this mod off for being a fantasy mod and thereby just complete uninteresting nonsense... In some ways, I can sort of understand why you feel like this mod is a load of nonsense and pointless garbage that has no meaning. At the same time, though, I feel bad that you seem to be close-minded about being open to new ideas and concepts. If you strip away the fantasy elements, there is still a meaningful story at the heart of this mod about loss, love, grief, and trying to move forward when the world seems like it's crashing down around you. It's about opening yourself up at the risk of being hurt again in order to heal and continue forward. In every mod I've written, I put my heart and soul into it. My happiness. My anger. My sadness. My pain. And probably the most obvious, the loss I feel since losing my mother and Darlene (and the added pain of Maddy essentially forgetting about me). It's our experiences that make the stories of our lives interesting in their own right. And through most of the mods I've written, they all pay tribute to the people who meant a lot to me and even shaped the person I became (or in Captive Heart's case, paying "tribute" to my father and how it led to me having a low opinion of myself). For the useless trivia this time around, there were two songs that went into the relationship. Kind of old songs, but I think they still hit even now. The first being "Forever" by Vertical Horizon, which I head canon as being MC's song/message to Kotonoha for how he misses her and how he's struggling to continue living without her. "You'll be in my Heart" by Phil Collins, which I head canon as Kotonoha's song/message to MC, in the sense that although she never said it to him directly, she loved him more than words could express. In a case of accidentally falling in love with someone you'd never have expected, MC meant a lot to her and even now she's still looking out for him. She even sings a piece of the song to remind MC that even if she's not there physically, she's still there in his heart. So long as he keeps her there, he'll never forget her and she'll never truly be gone.

Again looking at Amor Fati as a "template," MC is still kind of high on his "victory" over Joichiro, but he doesn't do anything unspeakable to Natsuki like that other guy did to Sayori (and just totally enraged me more than I already was). I kind of looked at Revenge of the Sith for the scene with Natsuki and MC, mirroring Anakin and Padme when he's completely consumed by his lust for power. In this case, he just happens to have an evil reindeer man and a dark entity controlling him like a puppet. He thankfully snaps out of it before he does anything regrettable (looking at you, AF) thanks to Natsuki getting through to him. The Kotonoha sequence was something. I cried while writing it. I cried the few times I had to revise and rewrite it. I credit while voice-acting it. And I cried while editing the video for the dev commentary. Aside from just the pure heartbreak that's already in the scene, I suppose it hit me harder for the simple fact I still miss both Madeleine and Darlene to this very day. Both gone and out of my life for different reasons, but still painful to think back to how happy I was when they were part of my life for whatever time I had with them. The same way MC is here thinking back to how happy he was with Kotonoha, just for Joichiro to literally rip that away from him. I guess you can say the sort of "lesson" with this mod is about the importance of moving forward in life. MC even says that he's caught up in the past. He's still mourning Kotonoha and in addition to blaming himself for "failing" her, he's even there thinking about how forgetting her would be the same as never acting like she mattered to him in the first place. Then he meets Natsuki and starts falling in love again. His meeting with Kotonoha was meant to not just serve as a temporary farewell, but also to show that although we may miss the people we love, they're always still with us. And in some ways, they'd want us to carry on and live a fulfilling life. Kind of like some of the last words my mother ever said to me when my father was judging me for not living up to his standards for me.

Hey, i first on the comments dude. Being lot our DDLC mod games...! Anyway, Happy New Year 2025! 🔥

STR kind of drew from that structure. And considering the original script was initially thought to be lost for years (I literally found it a month ago and preserved it so it won't be lost again), I had no problems starting over from scratch, giving the story a complete overhaul. Each ending from the OG would now become its own loop (except for ending 5 kind of, but you'll see later), and we would have a more detailed story about MC and how he went from being kind of like the MC everyone head canons to what he is now. After Kotonoha's death, he goes through life continuously punishing himself, feeling like he doesn't deserve and happiness, redemption, or forgiveness. He becomes sad, bitter, and angry at the world. His new attitude (and I guess his new hairstyle) chases everyone away. Except for Mio and Natsuki. In other words, he HATES himself and he punishes himself by trying to go through life being miserable and seeing himself as a failure for not saving the woman he loved. There's still a part of his old self deep down, but he keeps his heart barricaded from letting anyone get close, out of fear of losing another important person to him. Natsuki broke down that barrier and, whether he'd admit it or not, she became someone very important to him. That's why he's there saying "I failed Kotonoha, I will not fail Natsuki." So at the start of the game when he's there saying Natsuki doesn't mean anything to him? That's partially him not remembering HER attempts at saving him, partially him kind of remembering those feelings and outright denying them, telling himself "she doesn't mean anything to you" because he's in full denial and wants to "atone" for Koto's death. Jugraal is kind of my answer to the Samael character in Amor Fati, who kind of appears out of nowhere in the later half of the game. With Jugraal, I wanted to build up to him, so he's basically showing up here and there as something to scare MC and keep him on his guard. MC doesn't know who this guy is, what he wants, but what he does know is this guy looks menacing and most likely doesn't have good intentions for him. So that was my way of having it so Jugraal doesn't come out of nowhere near the end of the game with no introduction. He's technically been there from the very start, but he only chooses that moment in loop 6 to act then and there.

So "the stalker" is kind of a mix of stories I've heard and some experiences some female friends have shared. So you could say he is sort of a middle finger to those kinds of people. I won't name any names, but I will say some piece of trash literally hurt someone I cared about deeply. Who did Natsuki have to make the exchange for? That I can't tell you. I did think about having a short prequel where we basically get Shattered Time Natsuki edition where we see her journey, but then I figured it'd be too repetitive and people would probably be bored of it. We were, however, playing with the idea of showing how Amy approaches Natsuki the first time and how she gets her to do the ritual, all from Natsuki's POV of course. Yeah, you really don't want to have Jugraal as an ally. As for that topic, I'm aware of how loaded it can be. But specifically for this, though, I kind of took a page from Death Note and essentially MC becomes Light Yagami, the protagonist from that series, who starts out with good intentions only to become twisted and evil by the end. This is my take on that concept, however. And by now if it isn't obvious, this takes some cues from Amor Fati where essentially the same things sort of happen, but in a way where I hated the execution. And considering the OG Shattered Time was compared to it often, I took that as a personal challenge. I had never played that game at the time, seeing as the OG was inspired by Corpse Party and Makoto Mobius. After playing it and after being enraged (and after lying in my LP only because I knew the creator was going through a lot and didn't want to add to his stress), I took that comparison as a challenge. The OG Shattered Time was just a short story with like 7 endings (on of which, our former coder locked behind some stupid requirements despite the fact that was the ending I WANTED people to get since it's the TRUE ENDING), with a bit of time travel involved. Amor Fati, while having a bit of time travel, was more involved. It was a repeating loop with MC trying to save Sayori and making some truly horrible choices I won't go into but seriously made me sick... Especially with the way he treats Sayori and Monika. At the start, I was hoping for him to save Sayori and they end up together, but at some point, let's just say I want him to STAY AWAY from both Sayori and especially Monika. Anyway, it was structured as a longer, more detailed story where he repeated the same time period, bolstered out by the different plans he takes in each loop.

For the useless trivia from me no one probably cares about for today, this sequence was based off ending 6 from the OG Shattered Time, Endless Summer. It was named after yet another Cascada song and it was my favorite ending from the original. I wanted them to end up together, but I couldn't without throwing the whole plot out the window. Some people said it ended too abruptly when Terankos shows up. So not only did I beef up the confession between MC and Natsuki (and fix the write-up about the curse since people were confused about it), but I added to when he shows up to give it a conclusive end, so to say. Seeing as the structure of the mod is no longer limited by the nature of the quick one and done endings, I was able to play with the time looping/return by death idea some more. And as some more useless trivia, Amy/Terankos and MC actually quote the lyrics of the song in certain parts, further paying tribute to the song and tying it back to the meaning of the lyrics and the ironic sadness that even though they're stuck in this repeating time period, MC and Natsuki won't be happy or free. "It feels like paradise, the world is closing in, it feels so right I start to fantasize about what where getting in, because now you're mine This is our time It's an endless summer, boy I want you close to me In an endless summer. We'll ____ and we'll be free It's an endless summer, boy I want you close to me In an endless summer. Now it's time for you and me"

"Don't take it too serious," huh? You do realize I took down Captive Heart for a while because of someone making "a few nitpicks" and their viewers straight up telling me I'm a crap writer who can't make a good story and essentially going out of their way to make me feel awful, right? No? Well, now you do. I know, I know, I shouldn't take it to seriously or personally, but when it's something that I put my heart and soul into (and in Captive Heart's case, my pain and struggles with school and dealing with a father that made you feel awful about yourself), it doesn't sit with me. Even then, I only put Captive Heart back up because I felt bad for a handful of people asking about it and because it seems a majority of people have forgotten about that mod and probably don't care anymore. When we say "it'll be explained later," it'll be explained later. Like for real, I could, but do you want me to spoil the mod for you and tell you how/why Natsuki remembers everything? I'm not as much of a hack writer as Rocketman or most people in the DDMC make me out to be, you know. I thought about that. I'm not that stupid. So save all questions until the end of the tour. I mean, you said so yourself. It gets explained later. And it does, just like right here. Maybe my logic isn't always the best, I'll admit, considering the mistakes I made with the original Shattered Time and Captive Heart that sparked the desire to give these another chance. If anything, if you play OG ST and come back to this, I'd like to think you can see that I learned a lot and started getting back into the motions of writing again. Anyway, that aside... Why does he care? Because he loves Natsuki. And yet, when she was screaming at him back on the roof about how she hates him, it broke his heart. Despite all that, he still loves her. He won't admit it to himself, but that's why he had to make sure she was okay. And that's also why he even said before how he was going to do everything he could despite her hating him, and by proxy, despite how she broke his heart and how painful it would be talking to her again. For him at that moment, he thinks the best thing for Natsuki is for him to never talk to her ever again, even if she doesn't remember why she hates him. Plus it would just make him sad since he loved spending all that time with her. He thinks it's all his fault that she hates him. So when she's there all "wait, don't go, stay here with me!" he's confused. He wants Natsuki to be happy, and he thinks staying out of her life will make her happy. He's just in so much shock that he's there questioning like "Yeah, what's going on here? You said you hate me, but now you want to see me again??" At the end of the day, he wants her to be happy, to be safe, and to stay alive. He's literally willing to do whatever he has to in order to make that happen. Best keep that specific thought in mind, since it's going to be important coming up soon.

To be fair, this MC, while being on the more intelligent side, still tends to mess up now and again. Pretty much why he often says "a toast to my big mouth," seeing as he's often blurted out things without thinking. Whether it be asking out Natsuki or literally asking the dad for the bathroom after breaking in, he does tend to put his foot in his mouth a lot. So not exactly coming out of left field for him. Not to mention how in addition to being very frustrated, he's stressed out from worrying about Natsuki, he's stressed out from being afraid of Terankos, he's stressed out because he's conflicted about his feelings for Natsuki vs Kotonoha, he's just a bundle of nerves. While he is able to think logically most of the time, this isn't one of them and out of frustration, he just blurts out Amy's name since she's the root cause of it all. Not one of his finest moments, but also not totally out of character for him either. And as Ninja mentioned, it will sort of be made clearer later on why it seemed emotions were running extremely high. And at least you finally caught onto things. If you look at the poster for STR, you see in the corner a pair of glowing red eyes and a silhouette behind Amy, and then you see a larger pair of glowing green eyes looming on top of everyone else asserting a greater presence. Considering he's trapped in another dimension, he can't really be running around freely in other worlds. But Jugraal can.

I can tell you right now those rings aren't some mind control gadget from Terankos. Remember what Yuri said. Zynothioid metal (I need to correct the spelling here and in Forlorn Heart) is used for making magic objects, but is also immune to magic. So if anything, if he tried to mind control Yuri, it wouldn't work since the ring would be protecting her. And theoretically, had he kept the thing, the pendant would have protected MC if Amy tried to sing the song or if Zhiritha were to try seducing him. It would cancel out any attempt those 3 would make to control someone. I'll also say get used to hearing that name. Aside from this game and the Forlorn Heart trilogy, you will be hearing this name a lot if you do decide to dive into this series and actually play something that isn't just Night Nurse again... Seriously, despite how much I tell people "this is part of a series, please play the others to get the full story," I either have people ignore me or ask me silly questions like "is this part of a series?" Or probably one of my favorite comments recently where someone asked if STR was a linear story... even though I said in the download post that IT IS a linear story and we got rid of the multiple endings. Night Nurse Remastered, however, will be an exception to that rule, considering that is the version that will apply to Modern Crusaders should I not decide to pull the plug on this thing. Modern Crusaders will reference events that happen in NNR specifically, with the original being its own thing in the alternate "downfall" timeline that will tie into that mod in some form (not going to say how), but otherwise the most important mods that would tie into it would be Shattered Time: Rewind, Captive Heart: Amor Prohibido, Captive Heart: Original Me, Night Nurse Remastered, Proper Stranger, and the Forlorn Heart trilogy.

This mod unironically pays tribute to a lot of other Natsuki mods. Like name-dropping "Behind Closed Doors," poking fun at the whole "hero" thing from the original Exit Music (Natsuki's "My Hero" poem) (Not EMR because screw that mod), the twist with Natsuki's dad as a tip to Found Love, and even kind of poking fun at Fruits of the Literature Club with that "I'm not a normal boy/girl" comment they both make. And despite me most likely not being on good terms with the creator, I do make a small reference to This Bond We Share later in this mod, since that was one of the mods that kind of inspired me to try getting back into writing after I "retired" from fanfic writing after my mother passed away. The fact he took IRL experiences he had and put them at the heart of that mod spoke to me, and essentially kind of inspired me to do the same. Such as Kotonoha being a tribute to my first love, Madeleine (or "Maddy"), who I never got to confess to, but was one of my biggest supporters and sources of inspiration. Calm, graceful, intelligent, beautiful, and passionate about her interests in things like Final Fantasy or music from Avril Lavigne and early Cascada, which was how we kind of met. This channel of mine only exists in this form because she had a dream to do LPs, but she never did. I'm even subscribed to her channel, but it never went anywhere. After she went to college, it became harder for us to keep in touch. On one of my past birthdays, she wished me a happy belated birthday, apologizing because she was "so late" and hoped I didn't hate her too much. I told her I could never be mad at her, that I understood, and to do her best with her studies since she told me how often she was stressed out. And that was the last time we ever spoke. She told me how she was seemingly making friends a lot easier, even able to talk to guys more thanks to talking to me so much and helping her become less shy. Most likely, she probably found some guy and forgot all about me. Clearly I never forgot about her if I'm still here writing some stupid paragraph about her. As such, Koto pays tribute to my aunt and Maddy, taking qualities from them both. Almost the same way Akane is meant to pay tribute to the girl after Maddy who meant a lot to me, Darlene. As some bit of useless trivia, Maddy and I used to challenge each other to putting secret Cascada references in whatever we wrote, as kind of an inside joke of sorts. I've been able to do that for most of our mods, Night Nurse being the most obvious since it's named after one of the songs. STR is no exception, but you haven't hit said reference just yet. Just because I know people are going to not know what the hell a "higurasi" is, Higurashi (aka When They Cry) is quite possibly one of the most violent gore-filled horror anime series I've ever seen in my life. I will not even go into it, but take my word for it. Meanwhile Super Henkei Hero Force is the fake anime I create for Captive Heart, making a return here and in Night Nurse Remastered. Get used to hearing it, because it will be a recurring thing amongst all the mods I write. It will return in a greater capacity in Captive Heart: Amor Prohibido. I had fun writing that "cruel master Santa Claus" line. Considering this mod came out near the end of November, I kind of timed it nicely despite this mod taking place across two weeks in June.
