You're the only person I've seen make mention of what seems obvious from here. Why not fill the underside pockets of the base stand with epoxy resin and some lead weights. The more the base weighs the more stable it will be overall seems to me.

    • @robertbrody4032

I simply added a few drops of epoxy to make sure the base couldn't move. The saucer section has not drooped a fraction of a millimeter. 100% rigid. No issues with the saucer support removed.

The display is made from two parts. The first is an electric rotating base sold on Amazon as JAYEGT motorized stand. It's rated for 265 lbs capacity. On top of that is a 1/4 inch thick 20 inch plexiglass disc, also ordered off amazon and painted black. Pretty simple. Total cost was about 125 dollars. The base can rotate in either direction and at different speeds.

You probably don't read comments on 2 year old videos but I was compelled to write one in case you do. I'd done a lot of research on 3rd party grips, the pros, cons, and issues some people had. But it was this video that caused me to pull the trigger on this Meike for my D850. It's exactly as you said, "god, why would you buy the Nikon?!" Particularly hand held which is all I'm interested in. I must say however that I'm reluctant to trust the security of the connection to a tripod, particularly with a heavy lens. If someone regularly needs to mount a grip to a tripod, the Nikon's full inner metal construction would probably hold up better over the long run. The Meike only has a strip of metal in the bottom on the inside that the ¼-20 is attached to. So I won't be using the remote. I have other ways to remotely trigger the shutter. Plus the D850 already has the additional functionality of the remote built into the camera. Anyway, I love this grip. Feel great in the hand and just works all the time.

Placed battery in grip and repeatedly hit remote shutter button half way @ 10 times then confirmed remote LED turning green with remote shutter button half way down, and LED on remote turning red when shutter button fully pressed. BTW I set remote’s channel to 00. I Hope this info helps others that might be having issues getting remote to pair with grip.

Great review and good advice. I got a 3rd party grip for my D90, a Mekie for my D7100 and the Meike for my D850, all " still " work great to this day. The added value for me is the wireless RF remote. Using RF or radio frequency gives long range and fewer errors. Actually, no errors for me. It even works with a D18 battery for long life and the 9fps mode. I have never paid the fools price for the oem grip. I have a family, i was lucky to get my cameras. I started with Pentax in the late 1970s and 35mm film. If i had it to do again, I'd stick with Pentax. They even put the anti-shake in camera, NOT in each lens so you pay again and again. @@youknowwho9247 YES! My Meike grip DOES support the 9fps function. Well,...I tried this grip, and the EN-EL18a battery would not power on my D850. I have a DSTE EN-EL18 equivalent, and it will power on the camera,....but only fires at what appears to be about 3-4 FPS. I tried with fully charged AAs,...camera wouldn't power on. Note, I will say the camera would power on with the EN-EL15a battery in the Meike battery adapter! However, if I used the Nikon OEM EN-EL15a battery holder in the Meike grip, the camera would power on,...but no shutter release. This was also the case with the DSTE EN-EL15a battery holder in the Meike grip. So, I immediately placed an order for the DSTE D850 grip! Lastly,...as many know, the Nikon brand grips use to be Magnesium allow,...at least the batter grip for the D700 was. My Nikon OEM grip for the D500 is identical to the DSTE D500 grip. Also,...The Nikon OEM battery tray for the EN-EL15a and adapter for the EN-EL18a works the same in the DSTE grip (for D500). This tells me that the DSTE battery grip for the D500 is 100% compatiable with the Nikon version. Your findings may differ...

Meike grip must use DSTE BL5 cover and ENEL-18 battery for 9 FPS. The Meike and Mcoplus grips function exactly the same, except the 3rd party operate slightly faster with a 3rd part EL-18 battery for some reason. The OEM grip has a alloy substructure, while the Meike uses plastic ribs. They feel about the same. No one can tell which is which without looking, but the Meike has better shutter button action and a wireless remote.

Last week I just got the Nikon grip for it since adorama had a Nikon refurbished one for $99. It is a little heavier which makes me think it’s built a little better, but besides that no difference. I did a quick look at the manual and did not see any relevant settings but I will check again. Still feel like I'm missing something. But 2 differnt EL-18 battery in 2 different MK-850 grips make the camera behave badly as I stared above and never got to 9 FPS.The constant is the camera. Strange indeed. Update- Well some success. Indeed a setting was incorrect, the battery type for the grip. The default is AA for the grip. Once I changed it to Lithium with the Nikon grip I get 9 FPS with the EL-18. The downside is with 2 EL-15A batteries still only 7FPS. Also with the MK-850 and EL-18 the camera is dead except for ticking. Also no 9FPS with 2 EL-15A.

LOL....and a thousand views for a plastic battery grip! Plus I actually know the product. You clearly don't. Look at the videos that do well. Learn to edit. And KNOW what you're talking about. Asking if a ZL1 has power windows is embarrassing. Also: Put your big-boy pants on and listen to what people say. Several people bashed your video for the same reason. Instead of reacting, do better.

OMG!!! You are driving my dream car!!! If I can ask, how can you afford something like that?

Dream car is relative. When I was 16 ANY car was a dream car. When I was 25, a Nissan twin turbo was a dream car. As you get older and get more financial clout, you'll be able to get nicer cars. But each will be special in its own way. There's always a nicer car and sometimes it's worth taking a minute and appreciating what you have. I'm shopping for a Mercedes AMG GTR next and that's 3 times the price of my Hellcat. But I bet I'll miss the Hellcat on some days.

Just keep working. Educate yourself. Anyone can do it.
