You are great, keep doing what you do!
This is amazing, thank you
keep making these videos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Incredible explanation, thank you!
Great video, really appreciate you making this and sharing the details. I just wondered if you have the project file available? I'm new to Ableton and music and trying to get an idea of timing, when chords come in and how the melody interacts with the chords. How best to understand it all? Thanks!
Hey! you can also press cmd on the keyboard while youre drawing automations, so you dont have to deselect the grid scale, this way the automation is straightaway smooth and not boxy :)
Attack is moreso how quickly the target compression ratio is reached. The slower the attack, the longer it takes for it to reach the ratio you set. The attack doesn't start any later.
@@SeanGonzalezMDHEXT That is true, thank you for clarifying. I should have been more clear 🙏
Hell yeah!!!
New trend is coming among music priducers not to use compression at all as it kills soul of music.
In film music I rarely use compression, since a bigger dynamic range is often appreciated in cinema. But it’s often used in streaming music and similar to get the levels close to eachother, so it won’t be very quiet one place and loud another. Since most people listen to music on headphones and not in the cinema, a big dynamic range can be a problem. But I totally agree, that it does give life to the music, to not over compress
🤲🙏👌
thank you for all your videos, and for more to come. you have taught me more than i ever thought i would be able to learn, or what i have been able to learn in years. dont need to make a subscription to some service or go to university for this! thank you <3
You are very welcome! Thank you so much for watching 🤘🙏
I’m working on it! 😂
The timing is crazy, I've been using Logic for 8 years and have been meaning to try ableton, and I need someone to give me the shit straight to the point, and it's none other than the same guy who I commended a couple of months ago on this, keep it up man, this is great this is legit all I've needed! (my ADHD ass can't sit through someone stretching this out to 30-60 minutes lmao)
Exactly what I was striving for! I’m glad you like it 🙏🙏
How did you know I needed this? I've been watching a 10-hour Ableton 12 course on LinkedIn Learning, but you just summarized in 10 minutes what they took hours to say. 👏
That’ great! My thought exactly. A lot of tutorials are needlessly long 😅

man, your content is actually useful, not that click-baiting gibberish. you make it so easy to understand, straight to the point, and its also funny. keep the good work man! i also have a question, what's your mixing process? i'm starting making music, and the hardest part for me is the mixing. i don't know if i should mix while i produce, or if i should finish the song first and then mix it, or if i should do something else. now i'm stucked in my current production cause i think it's sounding so different from what i want, but everytime i try to mix something like EQ or reverb or whatever, i get stuck and snowball it to worse. maybe i'm overdoing it.
Thank you so much man! And well, you can’t avoid having to mix in the end a bit. But I always mix during the process of making the music, mostly because I think the mixing is also a creative process. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but trying to make sure instruments have space for each other while making the music is very helpful! Don’t think about it too much. Maybe just make space with an eq, and send instruments to a reverb or delay bus, to keep it simple and tidy. The rest you can do after 🙏
@@mickiewriedt thank you! and keep the good stuff, it's really helpful, you're doing a great job :)

could be that I listen to and make hiphop but I prefer the boomy mix to the fixed one in the example. Trap 808s are a poison I yearn for
@@kxdsh that’s actually pretty interesting! I do see the appeal also, but it could be a problem for different speaker systems though
@@mickiewriedt Yeah for sure. When I mix I make sure it's within reason but I make my beats boomier than most
VERY GOOD STUFF MAN!!!! I remember these words causing so much confusion when I first started. It's great to see ya tackle it! 😄 One of my favorite ways to identify these sounds is by splitting a multi-band compressor into lows, low-mids, upper-mids, and highs! You can then solo each band and compare it to a reference track! It's so much less overwhelming this way. You can then hear how the reference sounds in these ranges, identify the tone of each sound, and make adjustments to better match the two! I know clients LOVE IT when you can make their song as close to their favorite references they give you 😍 Again, another fantastic video from ya!!!! Also, I've been using Sonarworks for 4+ years, and it's absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend it!
And yet again you give some great advice! I will try out the reference tip 🙏 thaaank you so much for watching man! 🔥🔥
This is a great video thanks man 🙏

Learning the “what and how” is nice. What’s lacking in UA-cam videos is always the “Why!” Why do you tame certain instruments with compression? Why do you not? The how and what can leave you with a sucky mix. Whoever figures out how to teach the why becomes the king!
@@unc1589 good point! I will take that into account in future videos 🙏
straight to the motherfuckin point love it
@@SMOKEBONITO hell yea!
Compressor doesn’t make quiet parts louder. It is a complete misunderstanding of how compressor works and it is very harmful to give this information to beginners.
I turns everything up, yes, but it turns down peaks beforehand. Do you not agree with the visual explanation?
@@mickiewriedt the visualization is correct, the explanation is wrong. You turn (or do not turn) things up yourself, by increasing volume (makeup). But that is not part of compression process itself. Compressor can only turn things down and you can see it on your graph. I’ve written my notes only because you mentioned deep dive (which is why I got hooked up to the video), but then misrepresented basic concepts. Same with threshold - it doesn’t always show where compressor will start kicking in, cause with the soft knee it might start much earlier. And some other stuff, which could have been okay, if the video wouldn’t be presented the way it were, sorry🤷♂️
@ okay, I see your point. I thought I did make it clear, that compressor turns down peaks, and then makeup brings everything up afterwards. And the video was never meant to be really in depth look at the compressor, it was meant as a to the point look at how compression works, so everyone understands. I’m sorry I misguided you, that was not intentional! Thanks for the feedback, I will take it into account on new videos ☀️
This is better than anything I watched on this topic Litteral weeks of content, all wasted time in comparison
Wow thanks for saying that! And many thanks for watching 🙏
