    I feel you on thrifting only to replace. I LOVE thrifting and just recently realized I use it as a crutch to justify my consumerist-side. This was a hard realization to make, but it's the truth. Thank you for calling out thrifting and the role it *should* play in a low spend year.

    Are those generational credit card figures month-to-month carryover balances, or are they a snapshot in time? I ask because I put almost all of my expenses on credit cards but pay them off every month. I'm curious if Baby Boomer's relatively high number (relative to other generations) is actually a spending strategy? Thanks for all the info and context!

    My mom bought my husband the same exact style coat that he had loved because his old one he wore into the ground. LESS THAN A MONTH LATER and one of the seams already blew out!! The other one lasted years and years, it's so disappointing. I will hand sew the seam but for now I ended up finding one very similar at the thrift store. That's about the only place I care to shop anymore, haha.

    I'm doing a low buy year in the categories of clothing and some pantry food items. I'd also love to shift away from no presents and I'm starting to have conversations with family members about how gift giving and receiving is not my love language. I would so much rather spend time or do something together! TBD on if that message will stick by the time it's the holidays again.

    I was right there in front of the tv for the pilot episode. I was hooked. My dad lived in Houston and I lived in a small town w my mom. I would have her watch w me sometimes and she hated it. She had more fun watching Lizzie McGuire smh. My mom always commented on how Lorelei was not independent and had she been black the show would’ve been called Ghetto Girls meaning blk single motherhood is not shown as glamorous. Rory and Lorelei live on the same block as Carrie Bradshaw where you’re so charming ppl just carry you the whole way.

    I’m also embracing a low buy year for 2025. I did an “unstructured” version in 2024. Definitely consumed a lot less and I loved it. Put some rules on it this year and I think it’s going to go even better! Thank you for these videos. Very motivating and I’m excited to see the progress :)

    Love this! And I can definitely relate to ‘let’s learn how to REPAIR’ instead of buying replacement stuff all the time. Unfortunately not everything is repairable and buying a ton of tools and materials for the repair projects was my money draining rabbit hole in 2024. My new year resolution is to evaluate what is worth repairing and do better analysis of how cost effective repair vs replacement may be.

    I have just finished stocking up on necessary items that I don't think / know aren't made in this country (refill pads for TNS machine, vacuum cleaner bags super exciting items) so that I have a bit of a buffer come what tariffs may after next week... Beyond this my goal for the year is to use up my various stock piles of items & I've an entire list of things I'm not buying this year. We'll see how it goes. At 20 I told myself I wasn't going to do a specific thing until I was 28 & I'd just think about it then... 25 years later I still never that thing...😂 ETA: I would like to learn to alter my clothes but... That may not be this year...

    I kind of need to point out the diner food thing with Lorelei: where oh where do you think she learned to cook? We see from Rory’s time in Emily’s house that any kind of domestic work was actually punished. She didn’t have a stove in the potting shed. She probably came up with strategies to cope with that. Also it’s not true they eat every meal out. Lorelei makes up for poor cooking skills with pop tarts and bagged salads and convenience foods like tater tots and pizza bites. Even with the take out she’s strategic like ordering a lot of Chinese food and eating it for a week. This is not the most healthy, responsible way to do things but cooking is a skill and she never learned it. That’s the thing about Lorelei, she has learned everything out of order.

    The whole reason why that I have decided to a #childfree of an autistic type of a young lady/girl. Is because of the trauma that I have suffered as when I was a child myself. I was sexually, physically, verbally & emotionally abused when I was at a age 5 years & up. When I have finally made this very wise choice I'm currently now 24 years old. And I don't regret with my own decisions like, base on of by not 🚫 🙅👶🏽🍼 having kids. Because personally for me I really truly don't want to take on any responsibility or by being a severely autistic type of a mother either. This is something that my mom should has done in the first place.

      For nearly free compost or soil, i recommend checking local landfills! Here in Greensboro, NC we have Ingleside Compost Facility that allows local residents to bring and dispose of yard debris and purchase materials like mulch, engineered soil, or compost (at just 22$ per TON!). You don’t even have to own a pickup truck to do it. I often line the trunk of my Toyota Camry with tarp and go and fill a few thick black 10 mil bags and buckets for just 2-4$! (They weigh the car at the entry and on exit and you pay a laughable fee for a decent starter material)

Don’t watch people’s hauls. Go outside, smell the roses. Enjoy your friends company. Bake a pie. Get off the internet and stop vicariously enjoying someone else’s life.

    Like every TV show, money is only used as a plot device when it's convenient for a storyline. Apart from that, it's never an issue for characters as they go about their lives living in two-story houses, driving fancy cars, eating at fancy restaurants, and having an endless supply of perfectly fitted clothing. Makes sense. Viewers don't want to be reminded of their own financial struggles by a television show. The stack of bills on the counter takes care of that. Point is, it's an idealistic world with characters dealing with first world problems. Pure entertainment, not reality.

    The tarrifs are used as negotiating tool for policies to be in favor to the usa. The main purpose is to encourage Americans to be buy American made products rather than foreign. Foreign goods may appear to be high but the American goods would be cheap because of the tax cuts he provides for American Business owners both small and large scale businesses. Tax cuts also benefit the middle class if you utilize the tax code to your favor. Trump will emphasize on oil production. So, prices will be lower because cost of logistics would be cheap because of the lower gas price. Lastly, in trump's first term, he implemented tarriffs wherein goods, and livelihood was so affordable. And since his tax codes have been put into place, i have 5 digit refunds. So, to say life will be expensive is a lie, a myth, and simply a leftist democrat talking point. Be informed. Dont simply believe what people say. Do your research and and see reality. Dont be a sheeple.

      Companies that donated to the GOP in his 1st term didn't have to pay tariffs,. This term will most likely be very different as HD has stated an imposition of 25% on all products from Canada and Mexico and an additional 10% on China, so yes, this is very bad if it happens

    • @amandalindahl4172
      @amandalindahl4172 27 днів тому

      You're describing retaliatory tariffs which often do happen when one country starts the tariffs and then another lashes back with more. Trade doesn't have to be that way. In addition, prices certainly went up in term 1 for many people - farmers being a big group that definitely were impacted by agricultural tariffs including fuel, fertilizers, and feed.

    Are you sure this is going to happen??? All l heard here in Canada on every media channel during US campaign last year was MAGA (“Make American GREAT AGAIN “)!!!!! How is a tariff on “IMPORTS” going across our shared border into your USA country making your population “GREAT” since your population, assuming your statements are accurate and you sound like you know what you are talking about, will pay more for these imports. Isn’t this going to upset your population and won’t you just stop buying our imports. I am surprised that you aren’t more upset about this price increase in the future! I know l would be ranting about it but maybe the USA is still in a little shock after a “Trump” win that the USA population hasn’t had time to absorb that victory. I don’t think anyone here in Canada saw these tariffs coming and it has created a lot of tension, disconnect and frustration at a time when we as a nation on both sides are struggling financially. For years the talk was “FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS”. I think neither country will survive these tariffs and these radical ideas will be short lived as cooler heads will likely prevail in 2025. Stay safe and happy new year to everyone south of our lovely boarder! 🎈☀️🎈☀️🎈☀️🎈☀️🎈☀️

    Apparently the solution isn't to make it financially viable to have kids, it's to kill access to birth control and abortion. I decided I didn't want kids at age 15 and never changed my mind. I'm 54, and while some would say I no longer have a dog in this fight, I vehemently want every woman to have at minimum the same ability to control her reproductive choices that I did. Right now my will/trust is set to give everything to my mother if I die first. But assuming she goes first, I will then change my beneficiaries to 50% family and 50% Planned Parenthood. I've always liked the name of that organization too.

  • @KatieMcCarthy-GenX

    I've been on Team Luigi rather blindly since it happened. I don't understand how denying tests, treatment, medicine that are prescribed by a qualified physician isn't "practicing medicine without a license", which is a felony. But then, being a convicted felon doesn't really mean anything these days...

  • @KatieMcCarthy-GenX
    @KatieMcCarthy-GenX 29 днів тому

    I honestly don't know where to begin with avoiding tariffs, since it sounds like he'll be granting favors to those who "donate" to him. Also, as much as he swears it's going into effect on "Day 1", there are a lot of nuances to what qualifies as a foreign import - design? manufacture? material? I think companies will get around it, then he'll plug the hole, and they'll get around that...lather rinse repeat. I'm not entirely sure about the food situation, since grocery prices were basically his campaign platform...but then again, he's learned that impeachment doesn't have a single consequence for him. So right now I'm figuring out how to buy the major appliances I need for the house I'm moving into in March - I can't measure the spaces for the washer & dryer (not included) or the stove (I don't want electric), and I'm unsure of the condition of the fridge and microwave. I'm also planning to buy an ebike because car prices, insurance and maintenance are just stupid these days, and I suspect it'll cost me a lot less to just rent or Uber when I need to go more than 10 miles from home.
