    Joe ! I am an 86 year old veteran . App 10 years ago with the advent of the Choice Program and currently Community Care program I opted out of Medicare part b and currently saving me 2100 in annual premiums . During the past 10 years 100 percent of my medical is covered by the Va . In the past 6 years all my medical care albeit hospitals ,clinics , physicians and testing has been handled by non VA hospitals or physicians et al . The VA has always approved of said treatment and as a result no cost to me . Additionally all my scripts, vision and hearing tests and needs are paid by the VA . The only area not covered is preventive dental and about 5-10 percent of my scripts ! I have never had a problem regardless of the states involved . My dental out of pocket is about 500 annually and my scripts total app 300 annually . Check it out as any Veteran who is eligible for Community Care ( more than 40 or 60 miles from a VA facility) should be eligible . Tom

    Okay so my situation is that my wife was on champva but when she turned 65 champva dropped her because social security office said she wasn’t eligible for Medicare or social security benefits so she applied under my social security benefits and was denied because the social security office told her they didn’t have our marriage certificate on file so I am wanting to know that once she gets the social security benefits and Medicare benefits will she be able to get back into the champva

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 5 місяців тому

      As discussed in the video, there are pros and cons to each option. The scenario where it makes sense is if someone is looking to reduce the Part B Premium payment every month with the giveback option that some plans have. Its not a 1 size fits all option, that's why it is important to understand the pros and cons of both ways it can work.

    Thanks for the excellent video. I'm retired Air Force on Tricare and will be turning 65 next year--2025. I'm still working and making a good income. I thought the Medicare Part B cost was based on your income? Is that correct, or is the $170 or so a flat rate for everyone regardless of income? Thanks.

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 6 місяців тому

      Yes, Part B is based on your income. Here is the video on that- ua-cam.com/video/ob_Ngd9LKTg/v-deo.html. However, if you want your Tricare to turn into Tricare for Life you need to start A & B at 65. The other option you may have is to get insurance through your work and delay Medicare until you retire.

    I would never use Medicare Advantage because you will have to pay all deductibles and co-pays yourself and then submit the bill to Tricare for reimbursement which would be a royal pain in the neck. Also your choice of Doctors is limited to those in the Medicare Advantage plan. Personally I would NEVER recommend using Medicare Advantage with Tricare For Life.

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 6 місяців тому

      There are pros and cons to each side. However, if you prefer the convenience of not submitting for reimbursement from time to time over the savings on the Part B premium, then Original Medicare could be a great option. The purpose of this video is to outline the Pros and Cons of each so folks can see what might be best for their situation.

    One thing you have to consider with an advantage plan is that most, if not all, will only cover you in the state for which you live in. I live in one state close to the border of another state where medical facilities are located. The area where I live is rural, and medical facilities are very limited unless I want to drive long distances to reach them. That is why i kept my traditional Medicare plan along with TFL. Also, when I was learning about Medicare and Tricare for Life, I was told in no uncertain terms that if I chose to not get Medicare part B, I would not be eligible for TFL, and I would not be able to get it later, even if I signed up for part B later. Has that changed?

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 6 місяців тому

      In order for Tricare to turn into Tricare for Life you have to start A and B. From there, you can either stay on Original Medicare or shift to Medicare Advantage. In your case, you would want to utilized a Medicare Advantage PPO plan so you can have coverage outside of your service area. Let us know if you have any additional questions!

    • @medicarejoe

      You can certainly do the Medicare enrollment for February. SS and Medicare are two different programs, although you complete it on the same application. Just specify when you apply that you do not want the Part B to start until February. Otherwise, they will start the Part B in January and you will pay that premium and your work premium for that month.

    Can you switch back to original Medicare at any time if you chose advantage plan in the beginning? Or do you have to get medically approved? Thx

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 9 місяців тому

      You can go back to Original Medicare at any time... the program that has the health underwriting is Medicare Supplements, which you do not need when you have Tricare For Life.

    I am a ChampVA recipient. Ill be turning 65 on March 2024. I live in Port Saint Lucie, Fl 34953. I like the idea of the Medicare advantage program. I will find out which insurance companies my doctors are associated with. But does it make a difference if I choose PPO,HMO? Thank you for this information.

    Thank you, but you should of talked about the Transition from tricare prime to tricare for life with dependence. That would have helped an age difference of your spouse

    • @aukfan33
      @aukfan33 8 місяців тому

      Maybe I can help. I’m retired Army with spouse and here’s how the transition is working for us. When I started receiving Medicare my Tricare automatically changed to TFL. My wife continues to get Tricare until she turns 65. At that point (as long as she’s already receiving SS), Tricare will automatically change to TFL for her as well.

    I have been on disability since I was 62. I currently have a Medicare Advantage plan, but I don't have a hospital rider. I will be turning 65 soon. Will I be able to add one then without underwriting or it is to late?

      @garryclark1085 you will be able to add one. Give our office a call and we can give you an exact quote. 888-676-3633

    Joe, is it true that if you’re on a supplement plan, you don’t need any riders? Further, riders are not even an option with supplement plans? Assume we’re talking about Plan G.

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 10 місяців тому

      @generic_official the hospital rider is not needed, but for all Med Supp clients that have Part D we do recommend a cancer rider. See here for why: ua-cam.com/video/m-WmEiIbFg8/v-deo.htmlsi=wucd9W9qHiNPnhNh

      I’m a agent in Minnesota could you tell me the company that you use for the cancer policy. I just turned 65 and am a two time cancer survivor. So as a agent I would like to take care of my clients. Second question would it better to just put them on a supplement.

    I am not yet of age for Medicare. But I am retired Military and I am a disabled veteran and receive compensation from the VA along with my military retirement. How should I proceed once I reach age 65? Currently I use both systems for health care and medication. VA is free and if I want a second opinion I use Tricare. Please advise.

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 9 місяців тому

      You could use it the same way... then the giveback option may be a decent one for you if you are using the VA primarily for services. My office would be happy to answer any questions.

    If a person chooses Medicare advantage and chooses Humana as their provider wouldn't they have a premium to pay with that provider?

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 7 місяців тому

      No, a lot of the Medicare Advantage plans specific for Tricare for Life eligibles actually reduces the Medicare premium as stated in the video.

    What. A freaking. Scam. I turn 65 soon and just found out I have to give up tricare prime and get freaking Medicare B ..WHAT. THE F&$k.. what a scam.. Tricare prime is 351 a year. Medicare. Is fucking 165. A month.. I can not afford that…. I am giving up on tricare and I found out I can not get a new Retired Military ID card unless I bend over and let the screw me again… So much for standing the watch for over 20 years… Screw them
