From Makeup to MasterChef: Next Level Chef Semi Finalist Omi Hopper’s Story
In this episode of Growing Up Latina, we welcome the “Latina Martha Stewart,” Omi Hopper. Join Alyi V as she chats with Omi about her journey from a challenging childhood with divorced parents to becoming a mom of four. Omi shares how healing her own childhood trauma shaped her parenting style, her decade-long career as a makeup artist, and the pivotal moment her grandmother’s passing inspired her to start “Cooking Con Omi.” Hear about Omi’s remarkable experience as a semi-finalist on Next Level Chef with Gordon Ramsay, and her relentless pursuit that led to a book deal after 11 rejections. Omi’s story is one of resilience, proving that true success comes from hard work and perseverance, not overnight fame.

Latinos...Mexican...brown people a lot of them hate themselves! They think marrying a White, bleaching their skin, and dying their her blonde is going to open up doors for them ...as they have the desire to be part of the rich, wealthy, elite! They too have scares from colonization that they carry on from generation to generation. I have seen the same behavior in women from Indiana. Their mothers teaching them to bleach their skin for a better life and I have had friends from Indiana that suffered mentally because of what the mothers have told them. The same goes on in the Chinese community, Korean community, Japanese community as their beauty standard is under 110 pounds and white skin! They believe dark skin people are poor and work outside in the sun and white skin people have a easy life working inside. Brazil treats light skin people better and want them to be the poster for Brazil and this goes on throughout Latin America. So, they all have been scared by colonization. SAD! Colorism is also a part of the African American and African communities! EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP THE NONSENSE...because people of color are the majority not the MINORITY as we have been taught by the colonizers so they could have power over us be keeping us all divided fighting over skin color..while they make the MONEY which is only one color..GREEN!

This was such an authentic interview. I was locked in from start to finish. Nicole and Natalie are so real for never selling out to the music industry you can see it’s from the love of their mother. That women needs to be celebrated everyday. The interviewer asked all the right questions. My favorite interview of Nina Sky ever. Please release new music and pull the classics out the vault like “no more” “trippin” “this chapters closed” etc ! 💕

Yes, I was shocked when I learned that some of my family members could not read or write. It was sad. Back in the day, children were used for labor, but luckily times have changed and some Latin American countries have child labor laws.
