Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 is chaotically beautiful

Hello Dolly with BRILLIANT Imelda Staunton is as good as it gets!
yeah, it was good but not great. she did just feel a touch upstaged.
Just saw its North American premiere last Sunday and found your review! I believe this new production has not changed much from the off-West End one. And I do agree, it could be better, but overall it makes a great call, its primary message is necessary as the world is experiencing turmoils, that bringing people together can make a difference The pacing of act two is a problem. Both Amara and Jemma could've engaged more, but act two spends too much time on replicating the live. There was a moment I felt a bit tired of those songs, not the cast's fault, they were amazing, just...I did need a break. And again, thank you for sharing
Thank you for your comment! It's great to hear about the show once it transfers cause sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse. So thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's coming back to London too so it would be interesting to see what audiences who haven't seen it yet think about it. :) Glad to hear that it was a positive experience for you overall.
@@KristinaEmilyOfficial That's a legit concern. I have nothing to compare, but overall this new production is something I am willing to come back for. Though I won't deny that it still has a decent amount of work to do if it wants to be iconic Hope you also have a great time when it returns to London, if you plan to go see it again xD
I love Macbeth & have seen it many times. I'm looking for a cinema within a reasonable drive in order to see THIS Macbeth.
I hope you get to see it - it's definitely worth the hype in my opinion!
saw it twice last week.agree with everything you said, there were differences between the two shows with different actors taking different lines when setting the scene and trumpets were introduced in my second showing. A gripping story and a wonderful musical but it also felt like I'd seen a world class folk band .In some repects it reminded me of Once from a few years back.
The cast are incredible, aren't they? I couldn't quite believe how many of them play multiple instruments on top of great acting, multiple roles and dancing. Hope this show stays in the West End for some time as everyone should see it!
The original Album by Anais Mitchell is by far much better than the Hadestown Broadway Cast
That album is so special but also very different to the Broadway cast recording so I wouldn't dare compare them as such, I think both of them have a sweet spot in my heart. :)
It was truly awful. I felt I was the one in hell. The narrator was unintelligible. The jazz music monotonous and boring. The songs irrelevent - singing about a train that had nothing to do with it- the fact he walked to the underworld. The two main characters relationship lasted five seconds - I love you...Im going to marry you - and that was it. The fantastic song he was composing sounded like a Seal rip off... for the five seconds it was sung. No memorable songs - even after a decade. Still critics have to keep themselves in business but this should be remaned the kings clothes as it was awful. The couple next to me left at the intermission and most of the row werent clapping. Just utter utter crap that I couldnt sit through it for a winning lottery ticket
Thanks, good tips! P.S. Not related to theatre or anything, but how did you learn English so well?
Thank you - glad you enjoyed the video! :) I started learning English when I was really young and lived in a couple of English speaking countries before moving to London permanently so all of it helped. Also, listening to music, watching movies in English has always been a big part of my life growing up so probably that contributed too. Hope that helps but let me know if you have any question and I could share some tips!
Also use AirPods or any earphones you don't necessarily need to listen music if you do keep it low so you can hear other things just be careful around shady people don't have your phone in your hand
As a Londoner common sense knows that anyone in a big city is to use common sense don't walk through dark parks stick to the main road, walk strong and briskly these people target non savvy people
I nearly worked there in December. Hopefuly in the future I still might. The Theatre Royal certainly is a very special theatre. It would have been great to meet Sigourney!
The theatre is spectacular, so grand and beautiful with plenty of space to spend some time before of the show and truly make a special evening out of it. Hope you get to work there! :)
Predator lookin ass😂😂😂😂
Mason’s performance in this was infectious. So much so that I’ll be keeping an eye on him for a long while. Sig wasn’t bad but I think she could have done better. Perhaps the role wasn’t a great fit for her. Production is astounding otherwise. Definitely a fresh take on The Tempest which you wont get from RSC.
I was also mesmerised by Mason - really delivered character so well! And there are definitely good elements of the production but it just felt like it did let us down where we least expected it to.
🥰🥰🥰
It seems I'm in the minority, I absolutely loved the production and am going back for a second visit next week. I loved the juxtaposition of the modern costume and set design and the old world shakesperean dialog, some of the quips, insults and comedy are as fitting today as they were over 400 years ago. Im probably going to use phrases such as 'you cram these words into my ears' and 'hell is empty, all the devils are here' in the future. I haven't studied Shakespeare and wasnt familiar with the story so enjoyed following the wordy tale. I also thought Sigourney gave a great performance as did all the other cast members, it was fabulous being just a few feet away from such an icon of some of my favourite films. Im also now very much looking forward to Jamie Lloyds production of Much Ado About Nothing having seen this.
I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed the production - I think that's the beauty of theatre and different takes on classics cause every audience member finds something different to admire. I'm also excited to see Much Ado About Nothing, hope it's a good one! :)
You forgot to mention the most popular and best musical of them all: MJ the Musical
It takes you by the throat and doesn't let up until the end. Nicole is a force of nature unleashed. The production is a work of genius and theatre craft that is unique and original.
She is phenomenal! Glad to hear you enjoyed the show. ☺️
I find it a bit odd that Helen Mirren’s portrayal is not mentioned.
What Kristina didnt mention is that if you upload 20 different photos on seatplan, you can claim a £10 off voucher to use on thier website. This is the best way to get cheap advance tickets! Ive seen heathers for £7, Mean girls for £18, Les Miserables for £20 and the great gatsby for £14!
LOVE THIS!! Thanks so much for sharing! I actually didn’t know you can do this! 😍 I will definitely try!
Other suggestion along with Concession, and I appreciate not applicable for many people, but if you have an Access need, you can get some significant discounts on advance tickets plus you can register at key theatre groups (ATG, LWTheatres, Delfont Macintosh, Nimax) and in most cases be able to book online and get discounts at all the theatre group’s theatres.
Thank you for sharing this! Definitely good to know!
Great tips. I do all these already, but Rush tickets in particular is a great way to get good seats cheap. I've always found TKTS a bit on the pricey side, although bargains can be had occasionally.
Thank you! I totally agree with you - TKTS used to be much cheaper I think, now is rarely that cheap but yes, occasional deals might pop up!
Hi…..couple of suggestions. TKTS “on the day” tickets are released from Midnight - if possible I’d book them for best remaining seats (this option also allows you to choose seat/know what seats you are booking). If booking at midnight, also allows option whether to travel or not (Rush tickets only released at 10am so need to be relatively nearby)
Great tips! Thank you! I tried a few times at midnight but always wondered if they add more tickets in the morning 😅
I saw this on the 3rd January. It was absolutely fantastic. Fagin was awesome but the whole cast were great
@@catherineturner2839 couldn’t agree more! Glad to hear you’ve head a great time! ☺️

Saw it last night and couldn't agree more. ❤
Amazing! What a show, right? ☺️
@KristinaEmilyOfficial It was incredible. Pure theatre magic, I sat there going from goosebumps to crying my eyes out to cry-laughing to goosebumps. Felt like a changed person afterwards. I really hope their run gets extended much further because I desperately need to see this show again! (Also, I met some of the cast at the stage door and they were SO very lovely! )
Glad you enjoyed seeing Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of Oliver at the Gielgud Theatre in London, I saw it on Tuesday 17th December 2024 which was absolutely fantastic and I will definitely be seeing it again this year
Yes! It was amazing!!☺️
I am French and one month ago, I saw the new french production in Paris (in december 2024). It was the first time for me to see this show for real, and it was amazing, fantastic !! I would love to see the musical in London in 2025 !
I would love to see Paris production! Hope you get to experience it in London too! ☺️
I went the day after Boxing Day!!
Amazing! Did you like the show?
@ I loved it!! I also attended stage door, everyone was so amazing!
It’s got nothing to do with the French Revolution. The show begins in 1815, almost 30 years after the revolution. The show depicts the June Rebellion of 1832.
The show changes with every cast and every actor adds a lot of personality to the characters.
Definitely! That’s the beauty of it. Can’t wait to see it again. 😍
It's fantastc ❤
@@teresawilson9591 so glad to hear you enjoyed it ☺️
I saw it today it was fabulous Definitely worth seeing
So glad to hear you enjoyed it!! ☺️
The current UK show in London has an exceptional light and colour design. Often scenes look like a giant oil painting that comes alive. I have seen it over 25 times in 4 different countries. The current UK version is one of the best.
Yes! Those paintings really do something magical to the whole vibe of the show and also the fact that they are by Victor Hugo is even more exciting! So good to hear your perspective on this production given you've seen it quite a few times - glad to hear this is the one worth seeing!
Only started seeing Les Miz recently but now in Top 3 or 4 shows. Saw World Tour production twice over Christmas (Bradley Jaden fantastic Javert). Re. Seats I am very lucky as can buy access seats for daughter which are on end row on dress circle (great view ever though on row end and few steps. Access staff at theatre are fantastic). Key issues is these seats are reserved by the theatre (ie shown as occupied on website) but if unsold I have often seen these as discounted day tickets on TodayTix.
Ps meant to say TKTS rather than TodayTix. You will see what seats you are buying but check on Seatplan as for other discounted tickets the Overhang from seating above can be significant Pss there is a great Thai restaurant across road with excellent value set lunch if going to matinee
Got my ticket for the cinema. Feb 5.
Amazing!!! Keen to hear what you think when you see it! ☺️
Another enjoyable video Kristina, Les Mis is such a classic isn't it-I have seen it about 20 times since a kid in the 80's in West End/Broadway and tours ☺ I have also met Cameron Mackintosh a few times as well as Trevor Nunn, + the brill set/special effects designer-John Napier 🤘🏻 As part of your Les Mis trivia, you forgot to mention that the musical premiered in Parisat the Palais des Sports in Paris in 1980 with direction by Robert Hossein + the show was a success, with 100 performances seen by over 500,000 people + the cast recording was number one in the French album charts + stayed in the top 40 charts for nearly a year 😎 Shame it didn't stay at-The Palace Theatre, but as Lloyd Webbe owned it he refurbished and restored the auditorium and front of the house, removing the paint that covered the onyx and Italian marble so Cameron Macintosh needed to find another theatre! My mum/dad first saw it when it opened in London in October 1985 at the Barbican Centre, and then with the great success that was then moved to West End to The Palace Theatre for over30 years before moving In 2019 the theatre's name was changed from the Queen's to the Sondheim Theatre (after Stephen Sondheim died as you prob know) Yea, when I heard about the revolving stage being changed wasn't happy about it, then when I did see it with that change as you said some of the actors would move in same direction over again to what they hadn't done previously 🤷🏻♂ BTW- I did reply back to your last messages on UA-cam on Starlight Express/Oliver. I have sent you them Starlight Express videos on your fb page. As when I was putting the links on UA-cam they were getting deleted which were getting rather annoying 😤
Unfortunately what is now onstage is a pale, cheapened copy of Nunn/Caird/Napier's work. As someone who worked on the original production when it was at the Palace Theatre, it makes me sad to see such a 99p store version.
@@curzonproduct Yea it is a shame what they have changed, however wouldn't say it was a 99p store version though lol That barricade set + the projecton mapping alone doesn't make it look like a primary school production! Ah brill, how long ago did you work at the Palace Theatre just before Woman in White went in there??? How long did you work there for??
@@mikekaraokeI worked for 14 months on year 2-3. We had the amazing Philip Quast as Javert and Linzi Hately as Eponine.
While I am a huge fan of Les Mis, and think it is one of the greatest musicals of all time, I do think it needs an exceptional Jean Valjean - even seeing it professionally not all Jean Valjeans really pull it off in my opinion. While I have only seen the London one a few years ago - which if I remember was already without revolving stage, and played in the orchestra for an Australian production (with my kids also as Little Cosette and Gavroche for some shows) ... My main issues with edits is some of the re-orchestrations I don't like as much vs the original.
I have seen Les Miserables three times in London (original production at the Queen's Theatre in September 2015, The Staged Concert at the Gielgud Theatre in October 2019 and the new production at the Sondheim Theatre in September 2023) and will be seeing it again in October this year to celebrate the musical's 40th Anniversary and have met the producer Cameron Mackintosh twice in London in July and September 2023
Omg you’ve met Cameron Mackintosh! How amazing is that! 😍 2025 is a very special year to see the show so it’s great you are seeing it again in October! ☺️
@@KristinaEmilyOfficial Indeed it is and I have also seen the musical on it's UK Tour in Hull in June 2022 and most recently in The Arena Spectacular tour in Sheffield in October 2024 and will be seeing an amateur production Let The People Sing in Nottingham in May this year 🙂🎭
@@williamfairchild7439 you are the biggest fan of Les Miz I’ve ever spoken to! 😊 so much love for this show!
@@KristinaEmilyOfficial indeed and it's my third favourite musical produced by Cameron Top five are 1. Oliver 2. Half a Sixpence 3. Les Mis 4. Phantom and 5. Miss Saigon 🙂
Just booked tickets this week for Les Miserables for the first time. 😊 Have seen over 40 shows but one of the greatest classics is still missing. 🙈 We treated ourselves to tickets in the fourth row in stalls. Can‘t wait to see it in May.

Is Dodger the one from the CBBC show?!
YES!!! 👌☺️
@KristinaEmilyOfficial that's so cool, I remember loving his characterisation! What a great opportunity for him :)
yeah
@@wriggleby he is fantastic in the show!! ☺️
My Nephew Harry Cross is in the cast and is one of 'Fagans Gang' 💙 amazing on the Royal Variety Performance x super proud Auntie
That’s incredible! Well done Harry! 😊 no wonder you feel super proud! What an achievement!
Sigourney weaver is an icon but she’s hardly an icon as Prospero. Her line delivery was flat compared to the rest of the cast. Ariel was the best part of the show, for sure.
Sadly, I do feel the same 😞
A great classic! I saw Davy Jones (Was in the band, The Monkeys) as Artful dodger on Broadway. I wore the record out and to this day, Where is Love and Consider Yourself are some of my favorite songs!
Ahh that sounds great! Those two songs are some of the best musical theatre songs ever! Such classics!
