Making a Manger Scene for Christmas

I was asked to build this as a display for our church. These types of projects are usually pretty fun so I made some time to get it done.

Max Packing - Engaged

It's finally delivery day for a duplex worth of custom cabinets. That's two kitchens, two master baths, multiple guest baths, laundry room, mud room, armoire, basically everything two custom homes need. We were so happy to finally get this out of the shop as it was consuming our space.

I built this hall cabinet in order to use up some of my mistakes and extras. It turned out to be quite functional.
Building a Farm Table

This is a single slab farm table 15 1/2' long. The base is built using reclaimed lumber while the top was milled from an old pine tree harvested locally.
sorry if you said this and I didn't catch it - 1/2" or 3/4" plywood? what type of plywood? thx!
It was 3/4” paint grade maple. That’s just a lower grade face made for this sort of application. It’s a domestic plywood so still a great quality product despite the look.
Yeeyee 😂🎉 happy late fathers day bud
Which one was the gift ? To tape measure or the screwdriver 🪛
They’re both quality heirloom tools so I can see the confusion as to which one was the gift. I was lucky enough to get both at once! I’m just lucky I guess.
I was an apprentice and boss would use me as a notebook. I always thought he wanted me to learn how to remember measurements but I now know he just forgot sometimes. 😂
I’d say it’s more than just “sometimes” that I forget.
Perfection! 😂Glad you had those handy dandy tools!
Ha! True.
scrap you where going to throw out? brah thats like 2000 dollars worth of plywood.
wow,i need a hood...
This is exactly what I was looking for for my kitchen. Simple straight design. Thank you so much for your video
if one was to put this on a plywood base, what is the best way to attach the posts? glue and nail up from the bottom with pin nailer? do I have to drill a hole and use a dowel up into the bottom of each post (which sounds like a bit much?). I would appreciate any advice. there is a rim around the underside of the plywood so there is some space under the plywood.
It could be glued all the way around since there is a rim all the way on the bottom. A little weight on it while the glue dries and it would be fine. Getting pins up into it is a possibility but would be tougher to do and wouldn’t really add more strength than the glue would. If you’re impatient you could even super glue and an activator to set it off all along the base. That would do well in this case.
There is no "bottom plate" in the version my wife wants copied. The posts are toenailed (if you can believe it -what a pain that must have been!) with finish nails. Yes, the version in this video is much easier because of the horizontal sill plate which would make my situation essentially moot. However I would have only the end grain of the posts in contact with the plywood and relying just on glue for that doesn't seem adequate. Also, I'm not sure how I would get adequate clamping force or weight, if any. I suppose I'd have to attach each post first and then glue and and/or fasten and put some kind of weight down on top of the posts and let that dry before proceeding what the rest of the building? The horizontal plates at the bottom of the walls sure would make things easier wouldn't they? But she wants an exact replica of what her daddy made her when she was 10 lol. 🤦
Just beautiful. I need one , so I will make one just like it. Thank you for sharing 😊 🎄
😳 That’s beautiful! 👏👏👏👏👏
This video was really helpful in visualizing the construction of one of these trimless style hoods. Excellent work
Inspiring seeing your SketchUp workflow, man - *as well as* your workshop!!
Nice work! Y’all work together as a team very nicely. 👍👍
Is it common to have the cabinets finished onsite? By the way you do nice work, you should post more videos,
Thank you. Yes and no. A lot of custom cabinets will be installed unfinished but I suppose that depends on the shop you’re getting them from. I prefer installing unfinished for a couple of reasons. 1, if something gets bumped around in transit it isn’t scratched and ruined. 2, if they go in unfinished then all nail holes and trim gets filled, sanded and finished all together for a smooth seamless look. If they’re finished beforehand then all of that is touch up work which is less ideal.
What's the story with the eggs?
?
I think my cat would be quite at home in this. Let’s make one.
Details Mater. FINE craftsmanship out of that lil Bethlehem town!
This barn is probably what inspired Joseph to be a carpenter.
You've come a long way from selling shoes at the Penn Square Mall!
Ha! I actually built stuff over the summers even then to pay for college the next semester. That said, selling shoes was probably the best and easiest job I had throughout college.

Thanks for the tour! Looks awesome. Would love to see some more in-depth video on some of the tools or processes that are unique to cabinet building.
bro, lik,e amazing ~ talk you later!=)
That's a lot of saw dust! Great finished product!
Piles of it. It’s a pretty indestructible coffee table now.
That is a very unique piece! Great way to reuse what most others would see as fire wood. 😇🤘
Love it! great job!
Absolutely beautiful
Looks great accept for the feet.
I guess you cut the arch in the runner with the recip saw......
I did. A portable bandsaw would probably have been much easier but I worked with what I had.
@@nathanrench9485 portable band saw....i never even thought about one of those..good option. Table looms great. (Just collecting ideas for a smaller harvest table..) Thanks for posting...
It is just a wonderful piece of woodworking art, a table very few will have the opportunity to dine at, but fit for a king!
Can u post the dimensions of the leg components.I have 40 pieces of reclaimed rafters (douglas fir) from a hangar.I think this would make great project.
question is, how the hell did you get it inside lol
It's 2 pieces. The top is around 400 lbs and the base around 250. It took 4 of us to move it.
Simply brilliant
beautifully has done, Bravo
Simply amazing dude. Great job.
Work of art...
Great to see that... I made it too. Using woodprix handbooks :)
How did you secure the top to the base?
Nice work
too bad no measurements
Dennis Ames it's 15.5' long, 40 ish inches wide and 30" tall.
Copying this table for new conference room. Did you cut arch in stretcher with a sawzall? Thanks!
KillerKane yes. It took a couple of blades, but it worked. A portable band saw would be easier.
aowoodworks Thanks! I do have a portaband. But I think I’d rather fight the sawzall! Whew. Two blades!? My beam is locally milled aromatic cedar - Bastrop Co Texas. At least i will smell nice while I fight.
Amazing job! Bravo Zulu for your effort.
GREAT! you need more chairs... This is perfect for a large family or family holiday get together.
The satin black on the hardware is very nice.
It's beautiful. Thank you for sharing
Интересно и прикольно.А главное есть чему поучиться.
what kind of wood it use ? Which wood ?
*_📐📏🔨⛏️This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection [Check Details Here 👉👉 👉_**_paper.dropbox.com/doc/16000-Wood-Plan-TwnDRK7WAmtTJxiRw0Aas_**_ ]. I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece._*
I LOVE this design! This may be one of the best tables I've seen yet on UA-cam. Your craftsmanship is sublime. Great work!
Dan Taylor thanks
Looks good. I'm getting ready to build something similar myself
