Horse Agility - Apollo and the Noodle Walk Obstacle
Переглядів 2812 роки тому
Apollo has recently been learning the noodle walk obstacle! This is an obstacle that is sometimes used in horse agility. Apollo must push through two (or more) pool noodles and then keep moving as the noodles brush against his sides. We have been using clicker training and positive reinforcement to teach this behavior, and Apollo is doing great!

    That's...really not that far. I've trained rats for years now. This is like barely a medium length jump. They can be trained to jump much farther than that.

    I love your use of the car to get the sliding motion. T would take so much trial and error to shape sliding a die, but it’s what you do with a car. Th most obvious choice should be the correct choice. You’re just setting up the situation to make that choice obvious. I have to keep that in mind.

    Beautiful shaping. Especially loved the use of the clicker. The clicker is vital because it makes you think about the single discrete action that you want the learner to make. Be sure to check out TAGteach, Teaching with Acoustical Guidance!

    • @cheerioTrainer
      @cheerioTrainer 9 років тому

      Chaos to Calm: Discovering Solutions to the Everyday Problems of Living with Autism I am familiar with TAG -- it can certainly be a useful tool in some teaching situations. PORTL is different from TAG in that we do not give any verbal instructions. The teacher must communicate entirely through reinforcement and environmental arrangement.

      @chaostocalmdiscoveringsolu9632 9 років тому

      cheerioTrainer Thank you for your explanationt, and I'm so glad you are familiar with TAGteach. I have a nonverbal son with autism and taught him many skills purely with the clicker and shaping. Verbal instructions were not an option, and TAGteach worked beautifully.

    What are you writing on the papers? Is there somewhere to get this game or did you gather household objects for it use?

    • @cheerioTrainer
      @cheerioTrainer 9 років тому

      Service Dog University On the papers, the teacher records information related to her final goal behavior, her shaping plan and her shaping steps. Then, the teacher and learner stop every 10 reinforcers so the teacher can record notes regarding what is happening and what she is going to do next (and if she is changing her shaping plan at all, based on the learner's behavior.) The learner records what she thinks she is learning and how she is feeling about the process. It can be very revealing sometimes to compare what the teacher thinks she is teaching and what the learner thinks she is learning! We are working on a PORTL manual that contains a set of exercises that illustrate basic concepts related to training and teaching (shaping, reinforcement, chaining, cues, etc.). It should be finished by this fall!

    Hi, I'm gonna clicker train the school rats for a trainingsproject, but someone on the internet said I should use a ball pen in stead of a regular pet store clicker because the latter would be too loud. I couldn't see what you were using in this vid, can you give me some advice? Thanks!

    • @cheerioTrainer
      @cheerioTrainer 9 років тому

      I often use a regular clicker, and it works just fine! However, if your rats are at all shy or nervous, you might be better off to start with a softer noise.
