Charlie Chaplin The Great Dictator (Colorized version)
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
As World leaders bicker and argue about who is wrong, who is right, who owns what country and how we should live our lives, looking back to this speech from Chaplin`s `The Great Dictator` it`s almost like he foresaw what would unravel in years to come.

Bygone Stalybridge in Colour
Переглядів 8 тис.4 роки тому
A trip down memory lane of old Stalybridge in Cheshire using old photos and postcards from 1860-1930, mainly taken and produced by local photographer William Emmett. All of course originally in Monochrome, but now colourised by me. Made for non-profit, educational, entertainment purposes only for the memories of days gone by.

Great
Wish is was like this now use to be a beautiful town 😢
So humbling, so brave, to watch after remembrance Sunday ,respect to all
I was actually the assistant air traffic controller on its scramble callout departure from its base of RAF Boulmer on the east coast. Because the rescue was in the Lake District on the west coast, i had no radio contact with the crew. I only heard about it, when the Rescue Coordination Centre, phoned me up to inform me of the incident. RAF Boulmer was my favourite posting and have wonderful memories of the aircrew. Flt Lt Evans along with Flying officer Lings were my favourite's. Very down to earth and easy to talk to. I was just a Senior Air Craftsman (SAC) at the time.
Well captured😊😊
Today, July 17, 2024, marks the 80th anniversary of this event. John Alexander Cruickshank, VC, is the currently the oldest surviving Victoria Cross recipient at age 104.
Living in the western lakes district (Ennerdale valley) it was a common sight to see an Seaking on rescue as a kid circa mid 80s onwards.
Their generation truly were head and shoulders above of those who followed. I am honoured to be a Scotsman following from their generation.🏴💪
I literally could not think of worse things to wear climbing.😮
Great Job.
❤Excellent ❤
Lest we forget.
John Cruikshank will be 104 years old in three months.....
Never knew that Stalybridge could look so beautiful. I drive through on the A635 once a week. I wish it looked like that now
When I lived in Stalbridge 50 years ago, I worked at the old Victorian swimming baths. Some good memories.
Thanks David! I'm an old Ashton lad but went to West Hill, now living in Australia. That was very nostalgic 👍
I wonder if it would of been possible for the pilot and bomb aimer to work out a system whereby the pilot slips the aircraft while descending towards the target making it more difficult for the ack ack gunner to get a bead.
I am *not* disputing his bravery or his VC but how bloody stupid to have not trained his copilot on how to land the Catalina. Really dumb and short-sighted. The bomber Flight Engineers got sufficient training to be able to get the aircraft down if the pilot was incapacitated.
Credit to Superman who fly to take a video of all climbers.
I met him once - a privilege.
Why don’t you plant trees 🌳 on all that land
Blow me. The old buildings looked so much better than the new ones. How tidy Mottram Road was and other places, not a piece of rubbish anywhere. I honestly don't think Stalybridge has changed for the better over the years. The population has grown and the amount of cars, I suppose that had a lot to do with it over the years.
Excellent collection of photos. Great to see them in colour!
I’m from Tameside, it’s great to see pictures like this. I’ve lived in France for over ten years. I used to visit Carr’s bakery for a pie a dinner when I went to Westhill school
They still have the hard part, getting back down. And I'm thinking - photographer.
Legendary human being
Bonnington was about 58 here, what a tough S.O.B..
19:25- As a young carpenter I was on a high roof peak pushig snow off a roof. I had a shovel in one hand and a hammer in the other. I slipped and slid almost off the roof but spun around and buried the claw of my hammer into the roof. It was a 2 story fall below & the adrenaline rush was Insane. Tools can be one hell of a life saver.😃
Thank you for sharing these pictures it was lovely to see how earlier generations went about their lives

So pleased I came across this today. I knew the story of John Cruickshank VC and his crew and also have a print of a painting commemorating his and his crew's bravery but this really brought it to life.
An amazing feat of valour, men like John Cruickshank are just made of stronger stuff, and to think at the age 102 years old he was at our dear late Queen Elizabeth II funeral today. A salute to a real hero at a time of national mourning
As of this current time he's still alive and kicking at 103. For sure the strong stuff
This man as of now in August 2022 is the last living World War 2 recipient of the Victoria Cross.
Does it run machinery on the other side?
That was amazing, more than the big expeditions i sweated every move in this video : foot position and hand searching for something to hold on to. Listening to Chris relaxed voice even though he was no doubt full of adrenaline as any good climber should be, i realized clearly why he had been the organizer of big teams. That moral and ability to be composed and reassuring, is impressive when your life is hanging on a rope and slipping could easily mean trauma and broken bones. Not to mention the lead climber, with a very long slack in the rope if he were to fall injury is certain. That's amazing act of courage and there is only one safe way which is up. Wow. I wonder how such man having these abilities perceive normal life, is that going to eliminate all stress of a common life in comparison ?
I should say, “they interviewed” , they really all did a great job, out there in the North Sea, if you got hit and went down there was no nice green field to land on.
Now that was a wonderful piece of film , I am so glad these interviewed the crew as well, hats off to all of them.
Have spent too much time time in Sullom Voe and Sumburh. But will never forget My first time at Unst, looking out the window, what the F. is a supermarket carpark doing in the middle of all this nothing?! Then the aircraft turned and landed on that carpark!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Fantastic
He still alive and received another ribbon for the jubilee coming up!
This absolute hero will 102 years old on the 20th May 2022. A fellow Aberdonian.
true HERO...ALL respect
Thanks
Cheers
True bravery.
As of Jan 2022 he's still alive at 101.
