As a Brit, European cars have trashy reliability. Just call it a day and buy a Lexus (or Acura and maybe Infiniti). If you want something to work/spend on, buy a collectors car that will at least appreciate.

I bought a Mk I TT Quattro 3.2L DSG SLine in 2007. For 16 years I drove that car daily without anything more than scheduled maintenance. The only repair bill in all that time was a $40 brake Light switch that went bad. It has a timing chain, but if you don’t drive like a lunatic, the timing chain holds up way better than a belt. Mine has been parked outside all this time and as a result I just recently re-did the headliner, and the spoiler and some roof trim needs repainting, but other than that the exterior and interior looks pretty much like new. The combo of the 3.2 and DSG gives me around 31 mpg. I did finally have some repair bills just this year, a new fuel pump and instrument cluster to fix the dreaded red screen issue, and I had some parts replaced on the AC unit. The DSG Transmission and 3.2 VR6 have been bullet proof. The one thing about the tires is that if you have a Quattro you really can’t replace just one tire, you always have to replace both fronts, or both rears together so the Haldex and EPS system don’t act wonky. All in all, the TT has been the most reliable and lowest cost of ownership car I have ever had. It’s a blast to drive, and it’s so practical you can literally bring home lumber in it.

Just imagine people who can't buy this car and hear owners complaining about it ...they probably would love having to complain too ... So , just enjoy your luck 🤞

Hey man, how much would you say is needed to put aside for yearly repairs from your experience. I am considering TTS or TTRS mk2 or mk3. My main issue with cars nowadays is surprise repairs, which is why I prefer Japanese makes like Lexus, Infiniti, Nissan sports etc. You are right about comfort, some friends of mine had mk2 TTS, TTRS and my cousin had a RS5 stage 2. Awful suspensions, but again so do most AMGs. Thanks

Hard to say as it does depend on previous upkeep of the car and less mileage is not always better. Check the service history of the car. It's better if u also know the person and their style of driving. I'd say around 1-2k per year depending on the mileage you do and not counting anything cathastrophic. Make sure u do all the services and check the oil often these engines like to drink it a lot!

My biggest negative with a lot of the European engines in recent decades - the switch to cam belts. The durability, and common lack of servicing needed with chains makes this move ridiculous. Of course, some of the cam chain designs on the Mini have proved to be very problematic, notably in relation to their VVT, but that's down to this crappy design, rather than a flaw with cam chains generally. IIRC some of the TTs are chain - which are the only ones I would buy.

The matt issue - 2 ideas - velcro strip - one section to the reverse of the matt, and one section on the car carpet -- OR - adding some material to the hole in the matt which the stud situates in - - a suitable silicon maybe? Trial and error likely necessary

@@nagarage13 The TT and TTS components are more labor intensive given the design. A good mechanic could maybe replace the thermostat in an hour as it requires removal of the intake air box, alternator, radiator cowl, throttle body assembly, coolant tubes and front coolant pipe. TTRS is a 15 min job. The same goes for the water pump. It requires fewer specialized tools. Moreover you don't have to deal with the mechatronic unit and the multi-clutch in a TTRS. Of course if one invests in the expensive tools needed to lift the car, lift the engine for say the water pump, timing belt on a TT, TTS and they are a DIY those cars make sense. TTRS is the best way to go otherwise given it's less labor intensive especially if one is paying a mechanic to do the work and they plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time.

@mightymulatto3000 yeah but a TTRS also costs 4x more on average than the regular TT so there is this expense.

@@nagarage13 Correct it does indeed cost more; this is exactly why people get rid of them so frequently as they age. Adding $6K for a multi clutch replacement and $4K for the water pump the costs are more than saved when dealing with an honest mechanic on the TTRS platform.

@mightymulatto3000 yeah my water pump plus housing is 40€+labour so not that expensive. I got a manual just because of the mechatronics problems they have.

You will have aquaplaning every time when you drive in to the water, because u have 255 tires. This is way too much for a TT due to the weight. Wide tires provide more traction only when the car has a large mass, or when you have big presure from air when you drive fast. Wide tires gives you more grip only when you have enought mass on it, that push it to the ground. Silmple rule wider tires = more potencial for aquaplaning, and wider tires make your car slower at acceleration. There "much =/= better". My car weights 1800kg has quattro, 300hp+ and has 225 tires. I thinking about 235 tires, but 255 for a daily (even if you drive agresive and fast) is too much even for 1800kg car😅 BTW. Nice video but better audio will be briliant ;) You can record video with GoPro and record audio with your phone by headphones. It should be little better when you drive.

Hi, yes haha 255 is probably too much but does corner like a dream. Also the tyres were bald so I'm replacing them that might help. I started recording with my phone now. The quality is much better.
