    Hi Galen, love your videos. wonder if you could do a comprehensive comparison TDG vs Swiss Peaks. In terms of technical, atmosphere, difficulty, scenery, transportation to/from the race etc. for someone doing the 1st (and possible the only) 300km+ race. Love to know your views. Any other similar races you recommend? Good luck with your TDG race.

      I use the HRV from my watch. Not sure how accurate it is. But it was all over in the weeks leading up to the race. Above and below the normal range. But I only started looking at the data leading up to the race after the race. Have you found them accurate?

    • @olivierdormond8433
      @olivierdormond8433 Місяць тому

      @@GalenRun Yes I think it is not very accurate however for me HRV tends to be low when I am not rested well enough which is associated with overheating while running, sleep disturbance and a slightly high heart rate when waking up. Overheating happens also to me when I am racing with a poorly symptomatic viral infection. Good luck for the TOR, you ll do great, I ll cheer for you

    I'm enjoying the series so far! It would be great if you could do an episode on how someone gets into the race and the structure of race such as support points and drop bags etc. I hope to do the Tor in 2026 and from what I gather from the website the best way to get in would be to do the 100 miler in 2025 to get an entry?

    Great breakdown, thanks - so much to learn and digest! Can I ask specifically - how do you fit in 20+ hours of training around work, family etc? Early starts?

    • @GalenRun
      @GalenRun Місяць тому

      I ask myself that sometimes as well! Pre kids I was working in an office from 8 - 6+ and would run before and either bike or run again afterwards. Long runs on the weekends. Now I'm WFH, and I'm more project based, so I can shift my hours around throughout the day, and I work most nights. Fortunately, my work can be shifted slightly in a macro quarterly sense as well - almost all work from August goes to late Sept, Oct. Not having any friends also really helps.

    How do you choose the right pairs of shoes for a such a big race, you tape your feet from start? Keep up the good work!

    • @GalenRun
      @GalenRun Місяць тому

      That's one of the toughest things to figure out! Yes, I take and put tape, then vaseline on all the spots that break down. But I've never made it thru a 200 miler without a lot of blisters. Shoes! Man, something I try and figure out every year. Previously, I just stayed with one model and alternated the size. But this year, I'm switching brands in hopes it mitigates some of the blister spots.

    • @GalenRun
      @GalenRun Місяць тому

      And I realise I didn't answer your question. A lot of testing in long runs and in shorter races. I look at stack height, weight, forefoot width, heel width, and breathability. I test or measure at home. And I know what numbers work for me. Those shoes make it to the long run/race testing

    Hey Galen, I came across your profile after finishing the Ouray 100 this year. Are you still planning on recording a series on how you trained for this event. I'm planning on registering for 25 and hoping I get into the lottery. Would love to see how you trained for this epic run!

      Hey John, thanks so much for watching. Wow, the Ouray 100 looks great, I don't know how you deal with that consistent altitude!? I've got a new vid coming right up on how I train for the Tor. Fresh off the press. ua-cam.com/video/2-ToRYNsSMg/v-deo.html

    • @johnerickson3858
      @johnerickson3858 Місяць тому

       @GalenRun Heck yes!!! And you absolutely need to do Ouray-it's challenging, but stunningly beautiful. Do you know the average altitutude of TOR330? Looking at the Ouray site, Ouray is 10,239 feet. Silly question, but any insight on bettering my chances of getting into TOR330 come 2025? I believe if I'm not mistaken it's via a lottery. And are you planning on running in 2025? p.s. You're a absolute MONSTER for running TOR330 in 72 hours.

    • @GalenRun
      @GalenRun Місяць тому

      I've always wanted to do Hardrock, but given it's impossible to get in I could look at Ouray. The average evevation of the Tor - not sure. It has a really large range from 300m (~1,000ft) to 3,300m (~11,000ft). I I think the best way to get in is through one of their races where you kind of get PAX points, it's like what UTMB is trying to do. I'm not sure what I'll be up to in '25 yet. All depends on how this year goes. Haha, cheers! I was happy with that time given the heat of the first two days as well!
