How to get your Bourke parakeet to take a bath#
Переглядів 3 тис.Рік тому
This video shows you how to stimulate your Bourke to take a bath. First attract them with the sound of splashing water by using your finger. Than get them wet by splashing the water over them. They will love to get wet even more and maybe jump in to bathe themselves! good luck

two Bourkes and two Turquoisines parakeets
I love Rosy Bourkes. I have eight of them with a six egg clutch being sat on. My males sing first thing in the morning and late evening before bed time. My birds like to be handled. I never pet their backs though. One will sleep on my neck every night if I let her. She is the only one who will not fly to her cage in the evening. She is so sweet! They make good companions.
I put my hand palm down and lightly flutter all my fingers in the shallow water, and that usually works.
I LOVE the little bourke's and hand raise 3 or 4 every year (from one pair). People drive for hours to get them, as they are so gentle and sweet. I handle them a LOT, so that they not only step up and give kisses, but they also enjoy being held...They are so gentle natured, I caution people about having them with other parrots and with dogs or cats, and I never clip their wings.
@@marcycovault5379 thank you for sharing. Love to hear that you are so gentle with them and hand raise 3 tot 4 baby Bourkes every year.
While my rubino hearing this, it repeat this sound almost same. Now can I guess it is female?
Oh pretty girl~^^. I learned bourke's female song from your song now. 👍
Hi. I live with two bourke's parakeet. Is your mingo female? I don't know My rubino bird's gender. Can you know the way to know gender of rubino?
@@여니들 Hi, I love it that you have two Bourkes because they love to have a friend. It is difficult for me to help you from a distance determine if your Rubino Bourke is a male or female. Is your other Bourke a female of a male? If it is a female, there are some things you can look for: is the Rubino romanticaly interested in her? Is the Rubino feeding her? Than it could be a male. Or when the Rubino looking for a place to lay eggs or breaking paper with her beak (to make a nest), it could be a female. Males tend to sing more and "show off" by making upwards movements with their upper body towards the females. If your other Bourke is a male and you want to test if your Rubino is also a male, than you could look for a female Bourke sound on UA-cam, play it for him and see how he reacts to it. If it is a male he will start to get exited a lot and fly and make high pitch sounds. Try it and let me know. Hopefully this helped you a litlle bit.
@sweetbirds6236 Thank u so much for your fabulous, detailed explanation💙. Other bourke is 3 year old male (normal) ^^. And rubino is baby yet(born in April, 2024). Can it be the reason that the rubino's many actions and appearance look like both gender? Not clear? Rubino makes sounds much and has long and strong leg. These make me guess it is male. But rubino bites paper and often stands with its tail up. Is it female's behavior? At first time they met( June) , male acted many male action especially about territory. But gradually he didn't do so. I want check your advice about female's voice. I couldn' distinguish their voice. Is your Mingo female? I want to compare the sounds of rubino with your birds'. Thank you again ~💙
@@여니들 my pleasure, I love to help in a way I can. Mingo is a male Bourke. You wrote that when your male Bourke met the new Rubino, he went a little territorial on him. Sow that can be a sign that the Rubino is a male. You also wrote that your Rubino 's singing sounds the same as my female Bourke Dahlia on the youtube video. You know, Mingo and Dahlia's singing can sound very simmulair. So that does not always mean that it is a female. I think the best thing you can do is wait a little longer. Your male Bourke will show more interest in the Rubino if it is a female. He will try to impress he, get on top off her etc. If it is not a female, they will just fly together and sing together.
@sweetbirds6236 Oh, ok I will wait and observe their behavior. Thank you~so much💙. Ah, but the territorial action was not to rubino but to us(human family). He is very familiar to family usually, but then he did so to us. But about one month? later, he have seldom done that. And rubino almost always follow him, although he like human family more than rubino... 😅It is very difficult. And I wondered very much that two bourkes are interested in Mingo's song. and only rubino was interested Dahlia's song. Sometimes he give rubino foods of his beak. But someone says same gender birds often do it. Ha... 😂 So...difficult.. How sensitive and smart birds they are. I often think our male bourke is like a human boy~^^ I am so glad to find your UA-cam videos. Maybe I will often come to see and learn from here. Thank you for many videos of beautiful birds. If I become to be sure about rubino, I will leave message again~^^ Thank you~^^
Muss man denen auch die Krallen schneiden ??
@@martinafehl2093 Hoi, goede vraag.
I love your videos
@@tanjones9590 thank you so much😀

What are they eating? Would like to know so I can give it to my parakeets 🙂
It looks soo gorgeous! How did you get them so tame
@@Wavecattt thank you😊 I think what gets them very tame is to never try to touch them with your hands and let them choose when they come to you and go. I made my hands very interesting for them because I connect hands with food, always. I lured them to me with snacks and food. So in this way they know I will never grab them and my hands are safe.
@@sweetbirds6236 Awh thank you for the advice, thats sounds very friendly

I’m planning to get one. Can we tame them? Also can we take them out using harness? I love your videos ❤
@@asharockz7 hi, thank you for sharing. Great to hear that you want to purchase a Bourke parakeet. If you want a tame Bourke it is best to look for a breeder who tames them while they are still young. Older Bourkes are hard to tame. If you ask me I would not at all recommend to take a Bourke outdoors in a harness. The do not like to be touched let alone wear a harness. They are too little and fragile in my opinion. I hope this helped you are little bit. Have a great day😊
How darling !
@@SarahE.Berry-Merino thank you😊
I would like a hand fed baby Bourke to add to our wee flock. It seems they are extremely difficult to find. Do you have any tips? Cheers, Sarah

Ads in the middle? No thanks.
The singing is so sweet, who needs mimicking.
Makes my little yellow still slightly unsure ( not a month yet) pineapple bourke. He has progressed wonderfully, loves a stroke with a millet stem and takes food from my finger. His constant smile is joyful.
Wonderful colours, my little guy is a " pineapple" beautifully yellow.
My male pineapple bourke loves this.
21 days of your video have helped my very timid male bourke to now LOVING being stroked with the rubber end of a pencil. He puts his head down& almost goes comatose. He is a remarkable little chap. ( still not sure about hands, but does not object when doing "cage maintenance ". He is doing so well. Thank you.
I have a female broke and am looking for a male
Your video is bringing my handshy male out of his timidness, he marbles along happily. He is a pineapple bourke apparently. Such. A character.
How curious, mine too ( 3 weeks and he interacts beautifully though still wary.
Must be getting old digitally talking to myself!
Thank you, my year old male who has had a tough time. Have had him a week, he loves this and sings along. Your whistling skills are vastly better than mine.
Had a male rosie sold to me as a plumhead, thanks to my wonderful local petshop i now know what this dignified little chap is all about. He lost his partner, and was SO timid, but now i know his personality. He's no plumhead, he's a pineapple Rosie BOURKE! he is so close to taking treats from me. I am no expert but my wonderful local petshop are 2 delightfully dotty about animals ladies, and were SO helpful in identifying him. Thanks AMHURST RD PETS E8.
Seems the pineapple is not so good at it, great little climber though.a little hero.
Got my pineapple male, a year old. His lady died, the woman sold him as a plumhead, I know nothing, but the name and character didn't fit. Lucky we have a wonderful pet shop in Amhurst Rd hackney. The lovely ladies there were happy to help and made 3 phone calls to other shop owners. They were extremely helpful and I now know I have pineapple Rosie Bourke. The character definition told me they were correct. Early days, and still so handshake, but he loves a piece of apple, he will watch wait while I get it ready, takes 2 steps and I push a piece of apple into the bars so it's secure. He has this down in 6 days . The expression the smile, I'm hooked.
What an absolute beauty! I so badly want one!
@@rademenes80 thank you😊 Yes he is one cute little pink fluff ball🩷. They are amazing birds to own. They love to fly a lot and like to sit with you or on your head and shoulders. They do not play a lot but sing and like just being there with you.

Rosette mimics wild birds as well due to living in a wooded area.

Bourke están hermosos yo tuve de color Rosa
These birds seem very calm and act like they do not move very much at all. I am interested in getting one and would like to know more. Are these a lot less playful than a normal budgie?
@@dwalker4485 Bourkes and Turquoisines are birds that like to fly a lot more than to play. So if you ever want to have such a bird, try to give them a large cage were they can fly in of give them time outside the cage to fly in a room. The Bourkes are the most active during the early morning hours and in the afternoon. The Bourkes and Turquoisines (when not handtamed or raised by humans) do not always interact a lot with humans. They prefer to interact with birds of the same spiecies. I hope this helped you a little bit. Try to watch my video's to learn more about them and how they live.
Unusual colour. Great bird
That's not an unusual colour but what they originally look in the wilds before humans start breeding them for different colours.
😍😍😍😍😍
