Oh WOW!!! Thank you so much to whoever posted this on UA-cam!! I don't know why I started reminiscing about my college years, but felt the need to look up if there was anything about my college life. Surprisingly, I found this little gem. I was a founding member of CSUN's Jishin Daiko and I am on this video, playing one of the Odaiko in the rear. I remember this event like it was yesterday, and miss those times practicing with my fellow wadaiko members at CSUN. I also enjoyed meeting all the other wadaiko performers from the other California universities, and watching them play and learning from them, as Jishin Daiko had only existed less than a year when we participated at this event. We were the "Wadaiko newbies"! This concert was the first intercollegiate wadaiko concert held in California, if I remember correctly and I am proud to have been a part of it. I can't believe that this year, 2021, it will have been 25 years since this concert was held! I wonder out of all us who performed at this concert, who is still playing wadaiko? Hahaha...it certainly isn't me, but it would be nice to someday hold some sort of reunion to see if all of us still have some wadaiko playing skills! LOL! I remember being so much into Japanese culture when I was in college and joining our Nikkei Student Association (NSA) back in 1995, and starting Jishin Daiko that same year. And thanks to all the wonderful experiences and people I met through NSA, I now live in Japan and have been here for 15 years. Sadly, I think I have only hit a wadaiko only once or twice here in Japan, but at least I get many chances to watch it here. Anyway, if anybody who performed at this concert wants to get in contact with me, I would be delighted to reconnect with any of you. This especially goes for my ex-bandmates; Saori, Darin, Dean, Keiko, Karren, Steve, and Walter (and anybody else who played with us during those early years of Jishin Daiko).
Oops! I made a mistake! This was the Second Intercollegiate Taiko Concert, not the first! Oh, and if anyone I know wants to get in touch, send me a message at garciajar1024@gmail.com おおきに! ;)
I just shared this with Dean and Keiko! =)
