Kleber Quadraxer 3 & SNOW ‐ Forget Michelin Crossclimates?
First drive in proper snow on Kleber Quadraxer 3 All Season Tires. Coming from Michelin Crossclimate Plus tires, these Quadraxer 3's seem to do at least as well.
Good braking and good traction from standstill.
The conditions were snow and sludge at just around freezing point.
Only had dashcam footage made, but decided to post anyway because people asked.
As I stated in an earlier video, these tires are more or less equal to Michelin Crossclimate 2 tires (as concluded by multiple professional tests), but only 70% of the cost. As Kleber is Michelin-owned, you could say these tires are sister tires to the Crossclimate 2, which are imo just too expensive for what you get in tyyerms of performance and longevity.
And just to clarify, these are All Season tires (or called All Weather Tires in the US). They are not dedicated winter tires for heavy winter-use. They are meant to have enough winter capabilities in snow and cold conditions to get you home safely.

Haha yes it was, actually. But the soundtrack was added later :)
Hey, how many psi you putting these to?
Well, the 32-38 psi range feels best for these tires on my car. But could obviously be different for other people/cars/usage. :-)
What is width of wheel? 8 or 8.5?
It is 7 actually... :)
@@dmhlados3615 wow... I am wondering if it is ok to put this size tire on 8.5.. 🙄
Well I am not an expert on rim width vs tire sizes, but what I can find online here and there is that 8.0 rims need at least a 215 tire width. And 8.5 rims need at the very least 225 tire width, but ideally 235 to 245 width. Probably good idea to double-check that before getting/ordering them ;-) For my car with 7Jx17 inch wheels, the 225 is the "standard" tire size that VAG puts on their cars (VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat) and also for 7.5Jx17.
Hello, how many km ow and what is tread left mm ?
Only around 5.000 km driven yet and therefore >7mm tread left. Haven't used them during summer but will be fitting them soon for autumn/winter.
Hello how is the wear now ? How many km ?
Well haven't done any driving on them in the summer, so I'm still on around 5000 km. They still look brand new after this. Will be fitting them soon for autumn/winter use abroad. I'll get back to you when I've done more km's on them, but as far as I can gather from most other people and tests the wear should be pretty good. Keep you posted...
Many thanks @@dmhlados3615
Go with the conti sport contact 7 👀👀 much much better! And more tread and cheaper!
Well, maybe... BUT that is a tire in a whole different category (UUHP vs UHP for the PS5) so probably not really fair to compare them, just like touring tires don't compare with UHP tires. The conti can even be used as a track tire, just like the Michelin 4S. The PS5 is just meant for sporty daily road use. Also the Conti is not available in 17 inch.
@dmhlados3615 the ps5 I had on my bm and wore out quickly, Even on a diesel ! I have sc7 my current car being a golf gti and has done 5k and have barely worn so just because they are "uhp" tyre doesn't mean suitable plus what I'm getting at is the conti is as good as if not better than ps5 but cheaper and take it up with continental about the sizes 😆
disappointed with the reduced tread depth on ps5
Depth on these is about 7,4mm to about 7,7mm. Depending on where you measure. That seems about average to me in this segment. I think the actual compound is what gives this tire more durability than others...
Just sucks not enough tire sizes, need to expand tire size like cc2
Not sure about other tire shops, but Euromaster has 103 different sizes of the Kleber Quadraxer 3, which should probably be sufficient for most people/cars. But granted: CC2 has about 140 sizes at the same shop.
Never saw a McLaren going the wrong way into the tunnel during a race weekend 😂
Especially not with TWO people inside... :))
I just saw a duck 😂🦆
Well spotted hahaha. But it was more than just one ;-)
I'm trying to decide between these and the 4s
Well, the PS4S will be more sporty in terms of handling than the PS5. The PS5 is more durable and still has some comfort, but when pushing hard still has good grip. Especially in the wet. So if you drive mainly sporty, get the PS4S. This is a pretty good comparison video: ua-cam.com/video/GFv1hcj165I/v-deo.htmlsi=56w4oL8BOBpU0u8V
I have been using kleber q3 for only one year doing 6000km and must say I will make a complaint for 2 tires (those in front). Tire bloks are crooked and a bit worn out. The block rubber 'pills out' so to say. Micro breakings can be observed between tire bloks. I have china goodride 401 AS tires on my second car for 3 years and they (4 of them) look almost as if they were only half of the year on the road making a few kilometers. Very dissapointed with kleber. The reara tires look good yet!
Hmm, that doesn't really sound like how it's supposed to be. Especially after only 6000 km. I would definitely take them back to the tire shop and show them. Could be a production thing, or bad storage at the tire shop or any number of variables like weather and usage etc. But basically if there is something wrong, you are in your right to go to the seller and get it sorted out. My QD3's have done around 5.000 km now with DOT 4623 and still look brand new. Hope you can get it fixed and good luck!
4 years quad 2 all year round and even 40c plus
Sounds good! :)
Any numbers Use dragy app
Unfortunately I don't have the Dragy app (yet). Looking into getting that, though. Subjectively the braking performance felt much stronger when compared to previous Hankook, Conti, Vredestein and Michelin Primacy summer tires and compared to CrossClimate allseason tires. Wet stopping distance from 100 KM/H was less than 60 metres. These are more or less new tires with full tread depth. For what it's worth...
0:53 Good brakes! 😊
Agreed! No doubt for me that these tires are the best I've had in wet conditions.
No Intermediates or Extreme Wets needed that day! 😂
Nope, just good 'ol Medium compound... Or was it Hard? Anyways, at these speeds I can guarantee they all last longer than 78 laps. :)))
This needs more views. Also nice video!👍👍
I think so too. But I am somewhat biased hahaha
Ni un solo dato, todo valoraciones subjetivas
Well, I did put the links to all the objective, professional tests in the video description, didn't I? I am not a professional tire tester, so indeed my video is always to a certain degree subjective. I do, however, compare the CC2 and the Quadraxer 3 after driving them both on comparable cars in more or less the same conditions over longer periods. So therefore I believe I can comment at least with some confidence on their differences (or actually LACK of differences). I have no stake in either tire or company. Just my own experience and my own wallet. :-) In terms of objective data, please read the video description and see the links I have posted there. Hope that helps! Thanks for your reaction and drive safe!
apex!
Apex-ish... ;-)
Is there an option to change the speed at which this works? On my 2018 VW it doesnt work... Just normal brake lights
I'm not really sure on that, to be honest. I think it's standard on most "modern" models. It only works above a certain speed, though. Which I believe is about 80 KM/H. If it doesn't work on your car, maybe you can have it switched on/coded with VCDS.
What country is this in? I thought of this warning flashing brake light idea back in 2000 and contacted every major car manufacturer and electronics company, along with the national highway safety patrol in the US. I was 20 at the time, and all I wanted was for safer roads and less accidents. I even contacted insurance companies and told them about the way it could save them money with fewer crashes on the road. All I wanted monetarily was $5 for every new car sold with this technology. Now, i find out this became a reality! Any lawyers out there know if I have any grounds for any type of suit since i massed mailed my idea out to just about every company?
They have been common here in Europe on cars from VAG (Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat for instance) but also on Mercedes and I think BMW. Not sure how long, but for 10+ years at least. I remember reading somewhere that for legal reasons this was not allowed on US cars, but I can't remember why... In my opinion it definitely shaves off valuable reaction time in the case of an emergency braking event for the cars following behind.
Yeah, but how are you going to feel descending the snowy mountain rim, thinking you'd feel so much more comfortable and confident if you'd just sprung for the Michelins. A slide off with Michelins, blame the tires. Slide off with the knock offs, blame yourself.
I see your logic here. However I would think more like this: if the less than 1% performance-difference of another tire, is the ultimate difference between an accident or not: I should not have been driving there in the first place... And if were to drive snowy mountain rims often, I would not fit 3PMSF-Allseason tires at all (not CC2, not Kleber, not anything), but actual dedicated WINTERtires. 3PMSF-Allseason tires will get you home when it snows in most regular situations, but are really not intended for heavy winter-use in snowy mountain-regions.
Case in point. I've ordered the same Michelins for my granddaughter RAV4. I researched the tire, testing, popularity and sales. And I'll always do this where the rubber meets the road. Safety #1. Because, I learned the hard way. For a bargain budget facsimile. Totally different dynamic, an decommissioned patrol car, Crown Victoria. I don't even remember the name, but a triple peak all winter V-pattern unidirectional aggressive monster for Michigan winter. Although it LOOKED like Goodyear Ultra Grips that I had much experience with in the 1990- early 2000. These knock offs, mounted and on my way home, sent me sideways looking at mail boxes. They simply loaded up with snow, poor self cleaning, and began to float away. Admittedly, rear drive was probably a factor. One of my biggest mistakes. I will NEVER trust another tire because it LOOKS like a popular proven tire. Seriously, words of wisdom. Not worth your life and family. I would stare at that tread in disbelief something so aggressive is a potential disaster tire. Then I felt maybe as a consolation, the tire would be good off road, being, my driveway. Negative. The huge V cleats simply dug trenches below the tire to the frame. The big blue cruiser went straight down, not forward. The original all season tire spun atop the driveway surface, pushing the beast forward at a slow embarrassingly pace. But FORWARD. Not down. An extremely peculiar knockoff tire. All looks. They got me! Blizzaks 80,90, DMV2 etc, GY ultra grip etc , years of experience with performance above and beyond expectations. At the end of the day, if they work,... they work. And you saved money. Myself, I learned a good lesson, and it would be foolish to defy it. I'll work extra overtime, or cut corners elsewhere to protect myself and my family. Godspeed!
Michelin rules. you get what you pay for
I definitely agree with you, never trust a tire by just it's looks or price. Always do your own research based on your own predicted use and needs. And that probably goes for many other things in life too, haha. In this case I did my research and am sharing my own conclusions, experience and thoughts. However, because of your reaction I did realise an important thing: I forgot to put the links to some of the professional tests of this tire in the video description. That is now fixed :). So thank you for your reply, be well and drive safe!
Quadraxer looks pretty fine on deep snow. just like many professional tests confirmed also. it is made in Poland where they have lots of snow and mountains so thats usually a good sign. this is good test too by amateur: ua-cam.com/video/p2w7E3YMVXg/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

Gut!

Just got it on my car, after 4 years Continental sport contact 3. Michelin seems to be much noisier. That is disappointing...
Sorry to hear it. I've not driven the Conti's myself, so I don't have the same comparison as you. I can only fairly compare the PS5's to my previous Hankook UHP tires: PS5's are about the same in terms of noise, main difference is more grip in the wet. Other touring tires I've had were quite a bit quieter. But less fun, obviously :-)
What is the wheels width if I may ask?😊
Sure! These rims are 7J x 17 (ET 49).
@@dmhlados3615 I'm actually quite surprised the sidewall is perfectly straight against the wheel edge, I use 215/45/17 against 8j x 17, and it look quite stretched, I don't quite like it
Well, I know that on my 7j rims the max tire width is supposed to be 225. Which is what I've had for some years. So I can imagine that a wider rim like yours combined with a slightly narrower tire could look slightly different than my setup. Maybe a 225 is an option for you too...
At 5:05 in the video, how was the drive in real life?
Well, I drove the same stretch without camera and probably a little faster too and there was zero problems on that surface. Only in really deep standing water and going faster than say 100 km/h you can feel some pulling to the side.
Try Vredestein Quatrac..., especially in terms of aquaplaning-resistance and wet braking.
For sure a very good tire in the wet, the Vred! Put it on a family member's Ford a year ago. Quite happy with it. Only slight drawback: it seems to have fairly high rolling resistance.
@@dmhlados3615I love my Vredestein Quatrac tires (V shaped) but I might think about trying those bad boy Kleber tires next…… 😆
I know for a fact that you often drive faster than that! 😂😉
I can neither conform nor deny this. ;-) But I always take good care of my surroundings, especially when filming :-)
Nejlepší pneumatiky pro klasickou sportovní jízdu. Jsem s nimi hodně spokojen, Golf VII GTD
So far I am very impressed with them too.
Kleber is a good tyre brand. Was the tyre brand used on the Concorde for a number of years.
That's an interesting piece of history/info I did not know, thanks! And does this mean my Quadraxer 3's can run at supersonic speeds too...? ;-))
The Kleber tread differs slightly it looks like the CC1 the sipes are straight not serrated as on the CC2 we have the CC2s on our Subaru and will be fitting them to our camper van when it’s due tyres.
They are indeed just slightly different when you look up close. In my experience the performance is identical still, but this can be car-dependent too. CrossClimate 2 is a great choice too!
Best breaking performance i have ever had with tires.
I would agree. I've had different touring tires (Vredestein/Continental) and UHP tires (Hankook) on this car. And different sets of Michelins on my previous car. So far these PS5's feel superior under braking. That said, there may well be other tires out there that are comparable, but so far I am very happy with these.
What about gripping? is it going to get better with time?@@dmhlados3615
Well, for me the grip on wet roads (so not just braking) seems really good. I can maintain a lot of speed when cornering hard. Once the tires wear down a little, the dry grip should get better. See here for more explanation: www.tirebuyer.com/education/breaking-in-your-new-tires
It may well be a better performer PER DOLLAR SPENT than the Michelin, but it doesn't seem to be QUITE as good. Maybe close enough that the average driver will never even notice a difference, but there ARE differences. If you want that last few percentage points worth of performance, and cost is no object, get the Michelin.
Thank you for this and I appreciate you taking the time to reply! I definitely agree with most of what you're saying. Especially the fact that average drivers will not notice any differences in performance. I'm a big fan of Michelin tires myself but did quite a bit of research to see if CC2's were indeed "the best out there". I concluded that all the professional tests COMBINED (at least to ME) were inconclusive, basically because it was either very close OR in other cases CrossClimate 2 was ahead in one test and Quadraxer 3 was ahead in another test. So this video is mostly based on my own comparison experience, with a safety-bias towards wet performance and wet/dry braking. And yes, combined with pricing. ;-)
Nice video
Hello, very interesting. Thanks. 😉
You're very welcome! :-)
Video ruined by crap music.
Sorry 'bout that... Will try to do better in future. Thankfully most devices have volume controls these days. ;-)
How they grip comparing to the pilot sport 4 ?
I have personally not driven the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, so I have no comparison experience there. However, I understood from various sources that the PS5's are simular to the PS4's in terms of grip but have improved tire wear so should last longer.
@@dmhlados3615 I hope that the grip will get better, because im with the ps5 for 1 week and like 500km, but i really feel that the ps4 grip and turning was way better. hope its something that will get better during driving with those tires.
Yes, I have had the same experience with previous tire swaps. But luckily there is good explanation for this. The "old for new" tire swap means a lot more tread depth, which means more movement in the rubber even if the tires are identical. Which means they may feel less grippy when new. You can read about it here: www.tirebuyer.com/education/breaking-in-your-new-tires However, in wet/rainy conditions you should definitely notice much better performance with new tires. In dry conditions the tires get sharper in dry conditions as they wear down, but that also means less grip in the wet.
Hey man, im so glad to read this, because now i know that the performance and the grip of the new tire will be better during driving more kilometers. I was really wondering why its gripping less than my old PS4 tires, but now you got me relaxed. Thanks a lot for the information. @@dmhlados3615
Happy to help ofcourse! And hope you will enjoy your tires for many kilometers!

It is a Micheline subsidiary company, a 2nd tier tire company that is designed to compete against the budget price tires. KLEBER QUADRAXER 3 is based on the Micheline CrossClimet+/CrossClimate 2 with less warranty, MPG and minor performance differences.
Yes, thank you for this and your reply. Indeed (as I also put in the video description) it is based on the Michelin CrossClimate. That was more or less the reason I brought it up, since I did the comparison myself. In terms of MPG they are exactly the same on my vehicle and two other vehicles. Performance differences are indeed minor, some in favour of the CC2 and some in favour of the QD3. Same goes for longevity/tread wear, some tests say Michelin is better, some say the Kleber is better. I think the CrossClimate 2 is a great tire! But if the Quadraxer 3 can basically match it and at a much better price, than to me that is "better". But as I said, CrossClimate is definitely a great tire too.
It should be because Kleber is a 2nd tier tire company that is owned by Micheline and the QUADRAXER 3 is based on CrossClimate 2 design. Just less warranty and less MPG.
Thanks! The MPG may be different for different users, but for me and two acquaintances the MPG is not any different from the Michelin CC tire. Warranty in terms of projected kilometres tread life is in favour of the Kleber Quadraxer 3 according to Auto Bild Germany (alltyretests.com/kleber-quadraxer-3-test-review/) . But even in the tread wear was equal I would personally still pick the Quadraxer over the CrossClimate, because of it's price difference. But that's just my personal opinion, based on the info I have gathered. That said, the Michelin CrossClimate tires are great too.
it's a bit like the brand Gislaved (old Swedish brand) that is owned by Continental, really decent in winter tyres but most often reused old Continental patterns. I think Nokian does that stuff better labelling "old new" stuff as Nokian Nordman.
