Trying out a purpose made race bike! The KTM 890cc powered 2023 Kramer GP2-RR
I got to do my first race bike since breaking my leg on a new 2023 Kramer Motorcycles GP2-RR. This bike makes 138hp and weighs only 313 pounds! It uses an 890cc parallel twin engine from KTM (same as the Duke), but it is an absolute weapon in comparison. It was so much fun to ride, and the electronics and power differences of it over a regular 890 Duke was very apparent.
The track I raced at is The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington. The club, OMRRA/ WMRRA. Qualified on pole and won the race.

A couple pulls on my 2024 KTM 990 Duke against Brandon Floyd on his 2023 KTM 890 Duke R. Both bikes have stock engines, but Brandon’s 890 has the Akrapovic full Titanium exhaust system with Akrapovic mapping from KTM, and my bike just has the full stock exhaust system.

A little vlog style video showing what I’m up to on this fine day as I visit Gray Area KTM to gather my stuff that made its way back from Daytona, as well as hitting up Superior RC to drive r/c cars. Currently one month in with a broken tib/ fib from a highside at Daytona during race 1 of Super Hooligans.

Working on a build for the 15th annual “The One Motorcycle Show” in Portland, Oregon coming up in a couple of months. Got these sweet Dymag Wheels for the 2023 KTM 890 Duke R project bike I’m building in honor of my best friend Kelly Johnson who was a racer that passed away from a racing crash back in 2017. Fun times doing my first Supermoto race since 2021. Got to battle with AMA Pro Supermoto winner/ S1GP racer Bronson Pearce in the 450 Supermoto class. Was able to take the win in 450 Supermoto, Open Supermoto and Open Asphalt on my 2023 KTM 450 SMR. Thanks to Cascadia Supermoto for a fun event.

    Do these have had anything done to address the camshaft wear issues??

      These run an entirely different camshaft. The motor is basically the same as the RC8C. I’ve had zero cam issues on my 890 Duke R’s, and I’ve had 3.

    wud love to see u race this against the 4 pot 600s. is it as light as ur 890r lightweight spec?. how much power does it make? over or lower ur modded 890r?

      I was racing this against 600’s in the video. This bike is over 60 pounds lighter than the 890R I race, and it’s got 10 more HP

    Thanks Andy. You are a huge help and a great resource for the sport. For those that don’t know, Andy and his Dad are even nicer in person. I’m gonna ask Alex, then you, if he doesn’t know, what you did with key release for the rear cover. Also wondering if you did something to make changing front wheel faster. Four pinch bolts? C’mon!

    The riders weight should be included in the total minimum weight. Small riders will still have the airo advantage

      I got down to 1:47.2, first time racing after breaking my leg and jacking up my knees. Bike is capable of 44’s I’d say.

    Mine is leaking oil since day 1 but i hope is a small issue... What mods do you have since I want to track mine, but I'm a total novice at track riding so what are your suggestions?

    Awesome, thanks for this review, I've been looking at these for those giant loops of awesome SM roads with 50 miles of gravel and dirt included. Wasnt sure if they'd let me down on pavement.

    Not trying to be confrontational by any means Andy was just curious what the numbers were. I understand if it’s because you are sponsored by Ktm and they don’t want them posted yet and have asked you not too. Like I said I was just curious how they compare to other bikes as well as my tuned 23 890r Duke w. Full Akra (123.93hp/75.48 torque). I never got a stock Dyno run. So I don’t know what it would have been. I’ve heard numbers being around 111hp. Btw my 890r Duke was running lean with the full Akra system. The fuel pump apparently was maxed out and we had to install a larger fuel pump to get the correct fuel to air ratios. Anyway good luck with racing the 990. With it being heavier you shouldn’t have to add the lead weights to the bike this year like you did on the 890. So maybe you can be more competitive with racing Jeremy McWilliams. Lol

    Has anyone Dyno the 990 yet. I’m not convinced that a stock 990 is faster than a stock 890r duke. The 890r duke is lighter and with the same weight riders should beat the 990 in a drag race as well as out corner it with its better suspension and breaks.

      It’s pretty clear the 990 was faster. We haven’t been able to tune my bike yet. The Dyno numbers we are seeing aren’t exactly what I had hoped we would see from a stock 990. I won’t share that but in time you’ll probably see Dyno stuff pop up

    Chain adjuster parts put on back to front? Shouldn't the bolt press against the thicker side?

      The axle blocks are meant to be flipped in either direction. Makes it easy when changing gearing and not having to use the chain adjusters. Sometimes if we drop a tooth or add a tooth we can just flip the blocks and not have to adjust the chain that way

    Hey there! I'm an owner of a Duke 890 R from China. In my country, the 990 Duke hasn't been launched and available for sale yet. I'd like to ask, is there a big difference in the riding experience between the 990 Duke and the 890 Duke R? If the gap is really obvious, I'll sell my 890 Duke R at the current relatively high price and wait to buy a 990 Duke when it enters China.

      Personally I’ve never had cam issues on my 790 or any of the 3 890’s I’ve had, so I can’t really speak to what people say on the forums. My bikes have been rock solid after all the abuse I put them through

    I am confused, the thumbnail shows a lighter more powerful 132whp 890 Duke r. Are you suggesting a heavier 990 with 123 at the crank is faster. Please explain?

    suprising considering that I assume the 890 is akra mapped @ 125hp and lighter, I guess the torque is higher at lower rpm

      There's no way an 890R can look bad. Still one of the most brilliant bikes out there. Lighter and better looking than the 990.

      @@andydibrino How tall are you? Been considering replacing Superduke with an R version if they make it next year, I’ve sat on one few times and feels too small for me at 6ft. The 1290 is too much for me on track days but the physical size of it is better.

    Great to see the no. 62 plate on the 990. Are you planning to race it at the Ridge in Hooligans later this month? As an 890R owner, I’m sad to see it behind the 990. Guess I’ll be looking for a 990R next year.

    Thoughts on the 890R vs the 990? I prefer the looks and the smaller size of the 890. And it also helps they are selling the 890's heavily discounted at the moment.

      The 990 isn’t any bigger despite its appearance. I am really liking it so far! Hoping to be healed enough to race later this month.

      @@andydibrinohey do you think n the 990 has better handling or the 890? Also heard that the 990 has a somewhat bad pressure point in the front brake. Do you have any thoughts on that ?

      @@Finn-nt3jcI think it handles as good or better. I immediately put the 890R brembos on and my aftermarket rotor/ brake master setup on. Didn’t even try the stock brakes

    not going to lie mate these are sick have them on my 701 and that thing hasn't had a slip even in the rain all the way over, going to put them on my gsxr 750 aswell because the s22s just dont do it for me on that bike
