Hey! Welcome to my channel! Yes I know, its pretty bare here right now. If you're into big trucks, big projects, DIY projects, repair tips and tricks as well as saving money (but not time) on projects then this is the place for you! My current main project is a massive Autocar 6x6 that took me on a 4 day 2200km adventure to pick up. I hope you stick around and enjoy what's to come.
Will it RUN?! Is this Autocar 6x6 too far GONE? Part 1
I finally got Goliath, the 6x6 Autocar, in the shop and started digging into it. After a quick power wash, I start getting it taken apart to see how bad the motor is and if I can get it running. I found some surprises that aren't making me hopeful about this motor starting but its a good thing I'm stubborn and love a good challenge. Also I would like to apologize for the extremely poor audio. I'm only using my phone and a video camera that's over 10 years old and I have no mics yet. So I promise the quality of the videos will get better.
I look forward to reading all the comments and hearing everyone's feedback. Let me know what you think of the video and what you would like to see more or less of in future videos. If there are particular repairs that you would like me to do a detailed video about just leave a comment.
I hope you enjoy this video and please like, subscribe and share to help grow the channel so I can keep bring you content.

Biggest Autocar EVER?! Insane Road Trip to buy MASSIVE 6x6!
Переглядів 17 тис.19 годин тому
This is the crazy adventure of picking up Goliath. It's an Autocar 6x6 with a Cat 3406A. We went from central Alberta to near coastal BC. We planned on a 2 day trip that ended up stretching 4 days and almost 2200 kms. I have a lot more content coming about this truck so please subscribe, like and share and don't forget to hit the notification bell to stay up to date on videos as they come out. ...
Walkaround of GOLIATH! This thing is MASSIVE!

Here's a quick walkaround of my project truck. Ita a heavy spec 6x6, early 80s Autocar. It has a Cat 3406A, EATON 15 speed transmission and Meritor differentials. Please like and subscribe to follow my journey of trying to breath life back into this truck. #diesel #project #diy
Always enjoy watching a 2-man job done by one man, such as removing the hood. Great video, keep them coming!
How about putting a KTA in it. Like a 550 600 hp.
Or get a hold of Ol2Stroker and put in a8V92 or a 12V71 that would be sick.
I would have figured that for a Cummins powered truck. I was kinda surprised when you opened the hood and it was a Cat. Not sure where you are at, but here on the East Coast it's kinda rare to see a Cat Powered Autocar
I gotta be honest. This is the only Autocar I've seen in person and hadn't even really heard of them before I bought this truck. I'm still trying to find out all the history on it but if the cab is original, it came with an 8v92
@@thebadlandschronicles19 Yeah most of them were Cummins, but lots werre Detroit. I ran one with an 8V71 for years, They were made right by me in Exton Pa. I just posted a thread in the "Big Mack Trucks" in Other Makes, called Philadelphia Area Autocars. Lots of factory photos
Happy birthday to you, a little advice, if I were you I would buy the engine from marketplace, good luck with it 💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻
Thanks! I totally agree, a motor swap will be the way to go. But, I think for the sake of seeing what happens I'll still try and get this one running
Area Diesel Services come very highly recommended by other UA-camrs such as Matt and Clint to name a couple for turbo and injection pump needs. Top end didn`t look terrible from the video but you have it in front of you so... Pull injectors etc and take a look inside ? And, of course, make absolutely sure the injector rack is free before trying any sort of start ! = ) Comes down to how the bores look and if it even rotates. Good luck !
Happy Birthday ! = )
Thanks!
Ouch. What a mess 😢 Happy birthday
@@JamieCameron-Mackintosh-z7c I'm still trying to figure out exactly how all that water got in there. My best guess so far is it somehow got in through the air filter housing but it seemed sealed🤷♂️
At 25:50 you can tell the engine is a boat anchor. What a shame!
At 25:50 you can tell the engine is a boat anchor. What a shame.
Don't remind me 😞. I'll still try to get it running, but I don't think it will last too long
Makes a m35a2 deuce look like a baby😂 makes a full size heavy duty pickup look like a toy
It sure does! We actually have a 1956 M135 Canadian here too that I'll be doing a video on soon and you'll get to see them side by side
Disqualified on a technicality. That there is no longer an air filter 🤣🤣
Looks like the tails wagging the dog instead of the other way around
More tongue weight would have been nice. That headache rack wouldn't let me put the weight where I wanted
@thebadlandschronicles19 but you gotta her home in 1 piece
@@adamhoffman3687 Yup we did! So thankful. Now the long journey of getting this thing to move under its own power 😬
@@thebadlandschronicles19 just like eating an elephant, one bite at a time
That's A baby Auto. We used way bigger in the patch. Five and six axle, none of which turned worth A damn.
Looks like a DC model Autocar
I'm honestly not sure. I'm still researching into the history of the truck to find out all the details
Very cool truck. Probably the rarest thing in the video is the Komatsu WB 140 backhoe loader!
What was the truck originally used for?
It was originally purchased by the Hamakua Sugar Company in Hawaii. If you look up that company name on UA-cam you'll see some videos of these trucks in their glory days
That little forklift impressed me that it could lift the front end of that truck.
looks like desil creek autocar is bigger than ur autocar.
Similar but I think you're right.
If you check out my walk around video you'll see how big the tires and axles are and overall height
How much does this tractor weigh?
It's just shy of 28,000 pounds
I like the dog what is his name
Her name is Bailey 😊
@@thebadlandschronicles19 I had a white boxer named Bailey
@@Allen-ye6wy Boxers are great dogs
Awesome beast I have a 6x6 mack Flintstone I am rebuilding considering a bigger HP engine
Oh nice! Can't go wrong with more power!
Think I would have wanted a little more weight on the pulling axle of the truck for traction. But I guess you made it home. I'll bet that was an epic adventure for sure. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
I totally agree! Another couple thousand pounds of tongue weight would have been ideal but the headache rack on the trailer prevented me from pulling the truck any further forward on the trailer
I was shown this truck years ago, the rear axles are Clarke
I wonder what a Washington farm was doing with such a big truck? Sun fresh was/is ag outfit n this is def some kinda crane n rigging setup? You get the scoop on this moose? One hell of a beast there
I've been collecting a lot of history on this truck. Once I get some more key parts figured I'll do a video on its history. It's lived quite the life. From what I understand it was used at sunfresh for hauling potatoes or something
@@thebadlandschronicles19 ahhhhhh!!! That makes lotsa sense! I bet this pulled some crazy belly dump set or who knows! Cheers from Santa Cruz Ca
That is the sketchiest load I have ever seen
I was biting my nails the whole time! I didn't realize until my final edit that at 11:40 the back tires come off the ground on the orange forklift 😳
Autocar Goliath ! That`s a good series title on every video = ) She`s a biggun ! Congratulations on making the run, even that was a big investment.
Big air tank is for a air starter
Looks like a Great Project , However You 've got YEARS of restoration ahead of you ! Cheers !
My Mack has 24 Inch New rubber all around . It also has Twin Tulsa 50,000 lb winches on board : )
I'd like to find a big winch for this thing
I have a B-80 Mack Tractor its just as Massive as this AC
That’s an air start tank and a relay valve for an air starter
I have no commercial license or license to drive semis or anything, nor any practical need for a truck like this… but I want this.
Nice trucker, best of luck, thanks for saving. Big truck and canada best ingredient for great channel
Thanks! There's a lot more content on the way so stay tuned and I hope you enjoy it!
You've got a severe undertaking of a project there. I hope to see it back at work again.
I've dug pretty deep into this thing over the past few weeks. Was ready to pull the plug on the whole thing. After uploading this vid and seeing all the interest and support I think I have to get this back on the road now
what a beast, persevere and research, there should be clubs and forums that can find stuff cheap, just do it :)
that baby would make a nice snow plow truck
You can get brake shoes or clutches re-lined. A fraction of the price of new. Look for the right shop. Nice rig.
I'll definitely have to look into that. Once I get it running my next goal will be to get it moving
Yep. Can confirm that is the air starter tank on the side. Had a GMC General with that exact same setup. Cat in a blender. The hose and fittings are EXPENSIVE.
It makes sense why the valve on the bottom is so big
@thebadlandschronicles19 yep. The small line should run to a big button on the dash. Trigger line that opens the valve.
@@SPUPRR there is a push button beside the key.... Doesn't seem to do anything. I'll look and see if it has air lines hooked to it
That auto car was built to dominate only seen axles and springs that bench on leyland Martian mil spec
Looks like it’ll be a fun but very in depth project.
It's getting very in-depth very fast. I'm still determined to get this thing up and running though💪
I knew these trucks fairly well in the late 90's, I used to do contract maintenance for Sunfresh Inc for the stuff their guys couldn't do. I put the 5th wheel ramps on all 4 trucks they had, recognized the ramps in a second. The trucks came from a Sugar Company in Hawaii originally and were beat to death when they got here to be used as field trucks only and were hauled from field to field. Sunfresh also had a good sized fleet of M123 10 ton military tractors for the same job which was loading semi-trailers under a harvester. Also recognized the top radiator tank being steel, the aluminum tank was so badly corroded it couldn't be repaired but my radiator guy found a Mexican company that reproduced them in steel, so yes I put that radiator in that truck. Sunfresh folded in '04-'05 and the last story I heard about the Autocars was that one of their mechanics fired one accidentally without oil and seized the engine, they have to have air pressure to shut down and he let it run until it had air pressure not knowing about the stop shaft on the governor. Hope this isn't that truck. I could go on but I'm done for now.
This one was bought from a farmer in BC and he used it a bit so I know it ran when her bought it. It didn't work well for their operation so they quit using it. It's too bad all these places it's been to go out of business. I'm trying to track down the full vin for it because I'm missing a couple digits on the tag. Once I get that I'm hoping I can find someone helpful at Autocar or something that can track down an original build sheet
I worked at a used truck dealer from 89 till 2006 and saw a lot of old prime movers. Most of them military. Almost all of the really big ones were Cummins V12’s with air start. After they went to the second owner, most of the Cummins motors blew up from improper maintenance. Because it cost four times what it did a six cylinder to just service the motors. They were really unreliable. If they were re-powered they were usually re-powered with 3408 Cats. Unless it got a cheapo second owner, then they put a 3406 in it or 8v92’s. We dealt with quite a few collectors and these things wouldn’t stay on a lot more than 24 hours. Most of them went right back to Canada.
Big girl
Wait till you see it compared to my cat 950 loader in upcoming vids
Right side is an air tank. Air start. Part on bottom of that tank is a small "dryer" with a moisture indicator. The round "window". Good luck!
Oh interesting! Was it common for an 8v92 to have air starters? I think that's the motor it originally came with
LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE AN AMAZING RESTORATION PROJECT ! but may i ask what is the desired end result of the build ? OFF ROAD WRECKER ? OVERLANDER CAMPER ? or just a rig for a weekend beer run ? ha looks cool
Honestly I have no idea yet. This whole project just popped out of nowhere. My main goal right now is to just get it up and running
She`s rough but built tough = ) Matt at Diesel Creek is a big Autocar fan and could be a wealth of knowledge. Rich at DeBoss, Karl at Make it Kustom and Brent at Halfass Customs know loads of people in and around the industry and would be very supportive of a new channel undertaking such an endevour. Good luck ! = )
I've been thinking about that too. Once I get a few more of my videos uploaded I plan on reaching out to a few people like that and see what kind of info I can get from them
@@thebadlandschronicles19 Costs nothing to ask. As I said, they will all have a certain affinity toward the project. And who knows what might turn up through a simple conversation. I`d like to think that one or all of them could bring something to the table. Have at it and see what happens = )
@JohnSmith-ud9ex I live by the words "it doesn't hurt to ask". This project has been very interesting so far and I think there's a lot more to come
@ Just one observation from a viewer of many channels. Cutting Edge Engineering, utterly fantastic film studio level editing. Letsdig18, you get it pretty much how it comes editing. From my perspective there is a happy medium where folks like me are more than happy with the quality and you are not feeling like a kicked dog because of all the editing AFTER all the work and filming and consequently burning out. Just my tuppence worth, you understand.
One HUGE tip... Pay really close attention to your thumbnails and titles !!! Matt`s channel really blew up after the first "Autocar" video I think. So be sure to use "Autocar" when relevant = ) And that will also bring random nutters like me to the comments section = )
Don't replace the air start. It is really cool and works well. I owned one it worked great.
It actually has an electric starter on it. It needs a good go through so I'll be posting a video on tearing it apart and getting it working
Yuck. Top mount old rockwells, big 6 suspension. B model cat.
Unfortunately its an A model Cat. I'd like to swap it out with an N14 Cummins. Trying to get it running as is first though
@thebadlandschronicles19 looked like b as I didn't see snorkel on fuel pump. Lots of cabs around. 6x6 is worth money . Them old difs are noisy bull gears, no cross locks. N14 good choice. What are you using it for?
Actually, put c model cat in, great jake less work and computer engine will just snap shafts in old power train. Keep mechanical engine to feel torque
Cool truck
Thanks! There's a lot more content coming!
Hope she gets an 8v92t Detroit Diesel ❤
As sweet as those motors are, if I have to put a different one in I'm leaning towards an N14 mechanical cummins
I saw this truck when it was in BC. It came out of Washington State where it was a Heavy Hual tractor at the Hanford Reservation thats where they store old Submarine Nuclear Reactors. It has 56,000 pound rear axles right tank is hydraulic it has one fuel tank because it never went very ffar Best of luck
@@highwayhobo That's some great information! Thanks!
@@thebadlandschronicles19You may want to check the Pennsylvania area for a good cab and butterfly hood assembly, Ardmore Pennsylvania was the home of the old Autocar plant but I know there is a bunch of Autocar stuff there.
