This is the kind of technical proficiency I want to hear when people sing this. I'm so sick and tired of hearing undergrad and grad student singers perform this without any of the trills because they don't have the technique. I don't care if you have the right voice type, if you can't sustain a trill like Parcells does at 2:58-3:10, just give up. Take it off your recital program

Betsy, as she was known during her years in Boston, was an intelligent singer, a musician. I believe one can hear it in her recordings by the way she places emphasis on important notes and thereby gives "shape" to all those scales, roulades, etc. This was due to her understanding of harmony. In her interpretations, coloratura is more than fast notes, it is a mode of expression.
