Basic Training is NOT the Army!
Army Basic training and AIT (Advanced Individual Training) is not what Army life is like.
They are very different. I saw a lot of people quit and get discouraged with how they thought Basic and AIT was going to be their life in the Army.
Basic and AIT have a lot more restrictions then what life at your unit the the Army is like.

    I had knee surgery back in high school. I'm 39 now and would like to know what training you did for your knee injury to better prepare to enlist?

    • @daboscharmy
      @daboscharmy 5 годин тому

      I took my training slow and made sure I was ready to train. I started with walking, jogging, then running mixed with walking and kept at it. Once I felt comfortable I started to run a lot. Some half marathons and a marathon just for endurance. I did a lot of cycling and mixed in some days at the gym. I did some rucking and hikes during the weekend just to get use to time under tension with a ruck on. You don’t have to be in crazy good shape from what I saw at basic. I would say minimum you want to be able to run 2-3 miles before basic and you will be more than fine. The fitter you are the easier it’s going to be. It’s a crawl, walk, run type training and they want you to pass. As long as you don’t quit you’ll have no problems.

    I'm 34 and I am preparing to join and try out the National Guard Special Force. My wife is totally against it so I am working on it as I cannot live with regrets. Did you also have family with you during the time of enlistment? How did that go? Get more videos out there about your journey!

    • @daboscharmy

      I am not married and no kids so that really helped. Going national guard will definitely be better for family life. You’ll still be away for training and deployment so it’s a conversation to have if you’re married. I didn’t want to live with the what if i never tried it mindset and thankful I enlisted. I hope your family supports your decision to be the best version of yourself with no regrets. It’s challenging when you have a family. Let me know how it goes for you.

    We don’t glorify boot camp, we leave that childish ideology to other services. US Army is airborne, airmobile, and cavalry. Success comes in all your follow up training that continues well beyond initial entry training that young people go through. The follow up training depends on your MOS field and can range from master gunner, jump/air-assault school, path finder, Sapper, combat life saver, and etc. There’s opportunities in the Special Forces or Ranger regiment if that’s your thing. Regardless of MOS. As you advance in rank, the Army prepares you for more responsibility by sending you to PLDC, BNOC, ANOC, Ranger, and War College. Big misconception about the Army. They are definitely NOT do nothing grunts with rifles and no jump wings. We don’t have to boast about it either. Again, we leave that to the other services to glorify being yelled at for a few weeks and nothing else to show for it. A soldier’s badges, tabs, and continued military education and training speaks louder.

    41 year old. Enlisted after a decade delay due to family health issues/having kids. Always had my “why.” Wife told me to join since it is literally my last shot. Didn’t want to be the grandpa and catch heat for the age but who cares! Age is just a number. 89 on ASVAB, no studying… 599 on ACFT! All the grandpa jokes stopped after I was lapping the kids. Glad I joined even later. Army Reserves. 35Lima. Keep my federal job and do my weekend warrior work to give back. Biggest help to the running was my Zone 2 heart rate training. I spent 80% of weeks doing Zone 2. 1 day doing zone 3. Another day of Zone 5 with sprints. Another big tip I got was to do as much mobility and flexibility workouts! Stretching every single day as much as possible! Helps with the 35-43 crowd. Good luck to you and can’t wait to see how everything went!

      Great question! With lower heart rate training you burn more fat. Higher heart rate, your training VO2 max and anaerobic. You also train your body to become more efficient at using oxygen to produce energy. You can train longer this way therefore burning more calories and fat. Recovery will be a lot faster so you can train more. The risk of being injured is also lower training as slower speeds while your body adapts to the exercise and impact if your over weight.
