Welcome to this channel, I am a photo hobbyist, I love camera gear and picture taking, love to try out different cameras, image capture devices, old and new lenses. I think we are in the golden time of photography, where we have no limit to any camera or even phone can take good pictures. Through the modern mirrorless camera, we can attach any old and new lens onto any mirror camera. This is a window to my world of photography -- how I see through the lenses and what gear I use.
NEW Canon RF 200-800 vs Sigma 150-600 with TC 1.4x (210-840mm)
New Canon 200-800 for sure a hot lens. Compare to the old design Sigma 150-600mm with TC 1.4x. Sigma will have similar focal length to Canon's new lens. The Canon new lens is better in every way. Lens's weight, reach, autofocus and image quality... Except the market price. Does Sigma 150-600 + TC a budget alternative? I love the Canon RF 800mm F11, how easy to handle, and with good image quality (under strong sun light). For now, I still will keep using my great Sigma 150-600mm.

Nikon 55mm F3.5 Micro Nikkor PC is around 1960s, functionally this lens was impressive for its day. It boasted an extended aperture range of f/3.5 to f/32, and a double-helicoid focusing system that took you straight from infinity to 1:2 through a couple twists of its sizable focusing ring (and further to 1:1 with the extension ring). Today, the lens holds up beautifully. The all-metal construc...

Should I buy an adapter from 43mm to 46mm?
Yes buy a step up ring from 46mm to something above so that you can easily clip it I.
I just recently purchased this lens and so far really like the results for it's capability. One thing I've noticed is a very faint gear turning sound when I zoom in or out mostly while zooming out. No effect on performance. Did you ever notice this, or might it go away as I use the lens more? Thanks for a great video and feedbak.
Very cool. That diffuser produces somewhat boring light however.
Great work
God bless you, thank you for these amazing pictures :')
Is the Raynox DCR-250 compatible with my Olympus PEN Mini camera and olympus 30mm macro lens?
I thought I commented, but I don't see it, so sorry if this is a duplicate. I'm glad I came across your channel. This is phenomenal content. I see you're using the GX85 for Macro. Are you still using that camera? What's the Sunpak ring flash that you use? Do they still sell that? Would love to get a link. I'm looking for something similar. I have the Godox V1, but it's heavy. Awesome content!
Also, do you still use this lens for macro? I never thought of using the 45-200. Any other M43 lenses that might be good (other than the Oly 60mm)?
Hi Martin - beautiful pictures and video. I have the sigma 150-600, but I've never tried it with the 1.4x TC. Do you use the Sigma TC or the Canon TC? Is this your primary lens for birding or do you also use another lens? I saw your insta page... wow, just wow!! What's your setup for Macro Photography? What lens and flash/diffuser do you use? Thanks for sharing your art!

Is there anyone using chinese brand (non branded) mirror lens, is the quality comparable with this Tamron 500mm?
i have this lens and run it with a Nikon D850 and it's quality is sublime...nice demonstration of what it can do and thanks for keeping this vintage glass alive 👍🏻 (i also have the 800mm f5.6 AI-S)
Hi, is the lens too heavy for the Techart adapter to move it around? Is it true that when you put the whole set up on a tripod, the adapter would actually move the A7RII body instead? Do you have to manually pre-focus and then let the adapter do the rest?
Is a very heavy setup. Yes, need to manually pre-focus then let the adapter do the rest.
Pssst. The 3.5 is better
As long as there's no glass in the converter... You'll get the real deal.
I’m new to my g9 and have 100-300 lens and not getting crisp shots. Want 100-400 but trying to improve with current lens. Any suggestions. Thx
I think it may be the G9 focusing problem. That was why I switch to Canon R6 for wild life photography, since it focusing much faster and more accurate. 100-400 is a good lens, but need a better camera body to match. You may check other UA-cam review about the G9 II, hope it has improve focusing speed.
One problem I see with the new Canon 200-800 is that you lose aperture at shorter focal lengths, e.g. @ 600mm you're @ f/8 already as opposed to 6.3 with the Sigma.
For sure 200-800 is tempting, although we got smaller aperture at 600mm. I do believe the 200-800 has better images quality than sigma. And also cost more money too. I am looking forward to try it out some days
Man, those are beautiful shots.
what iso are u using to get that minimal motion blur
I control the camera aperture and shutter speed. ISO was using auto.
Very nice images! I have G9 and Olympus 75-300. I don't like sharpness of Oly lens. And it hasn't ois. Should I buy Panasonic 100-400mm?
I don’t know how Olympus 100-300 perform, can’t speak which is better. But I do satisfy the Leica 100-400 and G9 images quality as a walk around combo. Just, I think G9 focusing speed is a bit slow, compared to current Canon and Sony camera. Hope G9 ii can improve that.
@@pixeloffbeat Thanks! Have a good day sir!
How did you defish
Yes, defuse it in Adobe Lightroom
Am I mistaken , don't you also need the EF to RF converter?
Yes , you need RF adapter
Lovely photographs. Thanks for this.
Very nice pictures, bravo!
Don’t see the point of the video. It claims to be a comparison, yet it only shows images from one lens.
Lovely pics , i have 150 600 with r10. Which tc are you using canon or sigma? And which one do you recommend 🤔. Thanks 😊
I use Sigma TC
Does this lens have weather sealing?
This lens has no weather seal. The Sigma sport version has weather seal , but a lot heavier. Thanks
Why Sigma instead of Tamron G2?
Currently, I only have Sigma version of 150-600. I have Tamron 70-180mm Sony version, which is also a good lens.
Great!!!
Hi. I use tamron 500mm f8 and lm-ea9 together the same as the video you posted. By the way, in my case, the af is hard to catch. (Body is a7r3) Can you tell me where the focus ring of the tamrom 500mm is located and used to increase the af success rate
In this setting, lm-ea9 hardly appears to work. (Even if I manually proceed with the approximate focus adjustment and then press the half-shutter, it rarely moves. Bright day, outdoors)
I use my LM-ea7 with long tele lens, hand manual pre-focus is similar what you did. What about the focus mode? Have you use “Phase Detection AF”? I think it is not supported for “Contrast AF”.
You should really be comparing the 200-800 against the sport version of the Sigma for a closer comparison in performance and price, not the Contemporary version.
I own the Canon EF 500mm 4.5L USM (15 years now), I guess it's the version after this one and these lenses are what I call .....real lenses !!!!
Agree! I have also surprise the image quality of the FD 500mm f4.5 as well. Consider the lens is around 40 years old now.
I had it let cleaned and sold my Sigma and preordered the Canon. My Sigma had a kind of fungus behind the front lens. The Canon will have better IS and AF and it is Weather sealed
Base on my experience of my canon’s 400 do, rf 100-400 and rf 800 f11, I am quite sure the new canon lens has better image quality than Sigma. I am also looking forward to try it out in the future. Happy shooting 📷
200-800 is sealed against what Canon describes as light weather conditions
I sold my sigma 150-600 c and got the 600 f11 lens. It's way lighter while having better (but not perfect) focus accuracy and quiet focus. I do think the image quality took a significant hit though making me wonder if I should get the canon 200-800 and sell my 600 f11. I'd miss the lack of significant arm fatigue when taking videos for my channel though lol.
For the image noise, I guess F9 is a bit better than F11. Of cause, the new lens is a bit heavier also, need to try it out and decide it is right for you.
@@pixeloffbeat I was thinking that cropping the 600 f11 to 800mm makes it like an 800 f15 so it'd be like going from f15 to f9 but with the penalty of more weight which seems inevitable to have high-quality telephoto glass.
@@WestVirginiaWildlife The thing about cropping any lens to make it "just like" a long lens is that you have to remember that you can also crop the longer lens to make it "just like" something even longer! Of course, cropping anything in post is never really " just like" anything. It's always better to shoot with a longer lens in the camera, no matter how many "spare" pixels you have.
@@alansach8437 Yeah, using a smaller section of the glass is going to be worse irrespective of aperture equivalency. So I'd get 33% more reach using the full width of the glass and it would have 1.5 stops less noise.
What did you end up doing? I'd think the Canon 100-500 would be good if weight is an issue. I currently have the Sigma 150-600. The weight is not an issue for me as I also own the Canon 500 f/4 (and boy that thing is HEAVY).
DO NOT do it. When I bought my Sigma 150-600mm, I bought the combo which came with the 1.4x TC. First of all, as I have learnt you can't really put a TC on a zoom as most zooms' optics are not up for it. In short, when I tried the TC on the Sigma, it was not sharp and was veiled. TCs may work on better quality zooms although still not ideal, I will be getting the RF 200-800mm and will try a 1.4x TC on it.
why even bother with TC? just crop in post
So where's the canon 200-800 pictures for comparison? Kinda jumped the gun before the new Canon comes out.
Sorry, I don’t have any new lens photos. Base on Canon previous lens’s quality, I am sue they manufacture better lens, the only concern I have is it’s market price. For less than half of the market price, we already has a similar lens. And I can even take off the TC when I want a bit bigger aperture. Thanks for the comment.
@pixeloffbeat you should be comparing the 200-800 with the Sigma 150-600 Sport, not the Contemporary, as it's closer in performance and price.
I have used Sigma 150-600 and upgraded to RF 100-500 and it blows sigma out of the water so hard. Sigma is softer, slower and lot heavier.
Sure Canon got great lens, I am looking forward to try it out too. Thanks for your comment.
Of course, the Sigma is also made for the EF mount, and even Sigma says it's "not compatible " with Canon mirrorless cameras. Perhaps an RF version (whenever it finally happens) might be better?
I’ve used EF mount lenses on 3 different Canon Mirrorless cameras with the Canon adapter. They all worked flawlessly.
@@paullanoue5228 Yes they work flawlessly but newer RF lenses are lot more faster in terms of AF, much lighter and you have more stabilization. I had used sigma for 4 years and quite good experience but after switching to RF 100-500, the difference is night and day in terms of speed.
Of course you mean Contemporary? Sigma Sports would be much heavier but also it would have better IQ
Yes, all photos using Sigma Contemporary.
Based on what did you rate IQ?
I am a hobbyist, there has no scientific analyze here. Just some old photos using Canon r6 and Sigma 150-600 with TC-1401.
I have been looking to buy a longer lens to get some better wildlife shots and the Sigma 150-600mm is an amazing contender in my opinion because of the amazing market value. Most great lenses that I have looked at with the same focal length, cost upwards of 5-10 times the cost.
Sure, Sigma 150-600 is a great beginner lens. Happy shooting.
I have a 150-600C and Sigma TC 1.4x, I am on the list for the 200-800, why? well I have found over the last few years whether with my 7Dii 90D R7 or R6 The images with the 1.4 were soft, at all FL. Without it, at 600 the shots were still slightly soft. Also with the R7 and R6 there is focus pulsing when using AF at less than 75 feet or less, at 20 feet it is almost unusable. When I bought it, I first tried the sport but it was too heavy, so the C was the only option.
Have you got the Sigma lens firmware updated? I did find some image quality degrade while attaching Sigma 1.4x together with the 150-600. But, when attached to the new Canon rf 2x (adapter hack). The image quality is much better than Sigma version. Although, I am a hobbyist, I don’t compare them scientific accurately. I might have lucky, got a better copy. Anyway, I think the new Canon lens sure better than Sigma every ways. I also looking forward to buy one and try it out, I do quite like the 800mm f11 lens. Lightweight and fast autofocus. Just need to use it on bright day time 😀
I also love my Canon R6 with 800mm F11 that has light weight and good image quality. @noPrinting
I'm also on the fence for the 200-800, instead of the sigma 150-600, because of the terrible focus pulsing.
1000 💯
I have been eyeing this lens for a while now as I currently have the Oly 75-300 and need a little more reach. Your results appear to be pretty good. That said it seems to be hit or miss sharpness by others that own the lens, especially at 400mm. Looking to sell my GH6 soon for the G9ii as I am moving from video back to photography.
This 100-400 is a good lens. If new G9ii has improved focus tracking. It will be worth to own this lens. LMK how it go. 😀
Did you use bird tracking? Does it also work in flight?
No , I use center focus. G9 bird tracking is not accurate. Hopefully G9ii can improve
I thought this was a great video that showcased what the lens could do with a variety of subjects and scenes. It seems like a really versatile lens. Thanks for posting.
Glad it was helpful!
Is this thing worth it for wild life and would it be good with a tele converter??
No, this lens is BIG and heavy, is not for wildlife. As a hobbyist, this is a good budget alternative for the modern 400mm F2.8. A collectible lens
look at 400 f3,5 ED Ais, It's more manageable, and supports tc 1.4x well (even the tc301(2x))
awesome, will actually try the same thing, you gave me inspiration and courage to finally pull the plug to do the same thing too lol, keep up the great work!
This lens is BIG and heavy, but as a hobbyist, this is a good budget alternative for the modern 400mm F2.8. A fun collectible lens I think 😀 happy shooting !!
I use this lens with my r5. I have found that using a set of extension tubes brings the minimum focus down to approx 10 feet. It will also focus out to infinity with no issues.
Good to know. I will try it out sometime. Thanks for the info!
do u own sigma 150-600mm as well to compare sharpness to this lens? also when does the F4 stop ? and also when does it stop at 5.6?
I also have Sigma 150-600mm. Both lens are good lens. Leica 100-400 is great for walk around. When on full frame mirrorless camera, sigma is also very good, but a lot heavier. I did try the Sigma 150-600 on Panasonic G9 though adapter, but the focus is slow and not accurate.
Your photos are fantastic, I've recently been torn between getting the G9+leica100-400 or the R10+rf100-400, they're about the same price. Do you have any suggestions?
I also have Canon RF 100-400 with R6. I think Canon with RF 100-400 is better, since the Canon camera focus faster and much accurate. Both lens has great sharpness , just canon camera focus better.
Thanks!@@pixeloffbeat
