      @yvonnesheehan9079 in what way is a thumbnail with me in Bratislava and the words “Bratislava, Slovakia” cruel? The entire point of a thumbnail is to get viewers. And if you’re referring to the video title…it’s a question, not a statement. But yeh, nobody wants viewers who write pointless, nonsensical comments anyway, so…don’t let the door hit ya on the way out 👋🏼🚪

    @7:00 "nicht ganz dicht" is a colloquialism for 'nuts' in German. Literally the word "dicht" can mean 'dense', 'tight' or 'leak-proof'. Here it is used as a word play, advertising for building insulation (i.e.: Austrian buildings are not leak-proof, which makes Austrians 'nuts' for throwing away money for energy bills).

    Been living here for 20-plus years, and yes for being a capital it's not the most interesting city for tourists. But a good place to live. Easy and quick to get around. Tourism? Pubs, beer, cafes and restaurants and if that is your idea of a good holiday, by all means, come. Great museums, sight architecture, not comparable to Vienna, Prague or Budapest. The Danubia Museum of Modern Arts is worth seeing, a 20 min bus ride from the city centre.

      Yeh I can imagine it’d be a really nice city to live in & it has good connections to the bigger cities you mentioned too 🚎 🚂. It all depends what each individual wants out of a holiday/break I guess. The modern art museum you recommended looks really cool! 😎

    6:50 the lion you see here used to be a huge memorial complex dedicated to the fallen Bulgarian soldiers from the Balkan wars and ww1,it contained all the names of them,but because during ww1 Russia was our enemie and we defeated a cavalry cossac devision and other formations (by the way,the blitzkrieg tactics of Heinz guderian are inspired from this battles commanded by the Bulgarian general ivan kolev ,who used the calvary in an unorthodox way for blitzkrieg attacs)of the Russian empirial army,the Bulgarian comunists demolished it ,now there are calls for the monument to be restored,there are photos arround Google of the original one,the lion is just a part of it

    I'm from Slovakia and I can tell you where the locals are on a hot summer day...outside the city cycling, hiking, sitting by the lake or gardening/BBQing in their holiday home. Slovaks don't spend much time in town centres. We prefer the outdoors, that's why our towns seem deserted and every tourist points this out :) . Go to the Tatra Mountains and you will see where all the people are lol You can see all of Bratislava in a day or two, but I like how relaxed it is for a capital city. And it's actually a great place to live mainly because of all the outdoorsy options they have. I lived there for 6 months and there are events every night somewhere in the city. You can find a fun festival on a random Tuesday. Have you been to Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum? It's a cool place built in the middle of the Danube river. You can even go hiking in the Little Carpathian mountains just outside the city. I really like how connect locals are with the stuff that's outside the city. I hope you enjoyed your time in Bratislava :)

I can definitely see why the locals would avoid the city when it’s hot though 🥵 haha I was dying in the heat! Yeh I had a really good time in Bratislava thanks 😎, I’d just been to Prague & Vienna, so it provided a really nice contrast…very charming and chilled 🙌🏼 I’d definitely like to go and see the Tatra Mountains 🏔️ and other places in Slovakia in the future & make some videos there! 😃

    Oh trust me, the city is very popular with British tourists. Especially the drunken ones. Can't tell you how many times I've been yelled at: "Hey Love, come join us." while they were having a bachelor party in one of the pubs (usually Lochness or Irish Pub). There were also quite few stories where British tourists were caught peeing into the fountain and then swimming in it, dangling from statues, fighting while being absolutely wasted. Bratislava is a popular place for bachelor parties as apparently it's cheaper to fly there than have one in London or some other city.

    • @n1ckburt0n
      @n1ckburt0n 2 місяці тому

      Well, by that comment I meant that Bratislava is probably lower on the list of places receiving the most British tourists than it kinda should be based on location/price/vibe etc. I’m surprised more don’t go there tbh 🇸🇰 Yeh it would definitely be cheaper to go to Bratislava than have a bachelor party in London, London is ridiculously expensive! 💰 As for wasted British tourists causing problems, yeh it’s not ideal & it makes it trickier for the rest of us “normal” Brits 🇬🇧 when travelling…👀

      @@n1ckburt0n Don't worry, even when they were drunk, they were actually quite polite. Can't say they were making advances or something like that, just having a good time while yelling at locals. I bet Slovaks are doing the same somewhere else. Bratislava has a tiny old town (most of it was torn down to build the UFO bridge) and that for some people means it's not worth visiting. Sure, if you only want to see old town, go to Prague, Budapest, Vienna. But if you don't mind walking and taking a bus or boat, you can always go and visit Devin Castle, or go on a hike to Devínska Kobyla, Horský Park (a little forest above the city centre), Kamzík Tower, many museums or galleries. There are many places you can visit in Bratislava but many people just hop on a train or bus without doing any research first. Slovakia is in general always considered as the little and lesser sibling of Czechia, Poland and Hungary. People think if they visited those countries, there is no need to go to Slovakia because they think it's the same there as well. And then if they decide to go there, they are surprised that almost 80% of Slovakia is mountainous. I wish people would visit more places in Slovakia not just Bratislava and then form an opinion about the country.

    • @n1ckburt0n
      @n1ckburt0n 2 місяці тому

      Yeh I think there are rowdy drunk people of all nationalities at certain times and places…at least they were polite 🫢😆 Agreed, I would definitely like to visit more of Slovakia on future trips! ✈️🌏🎥

    17:49 on Haje there is a statue of only two czech, or more precisely said, two czechoslovak astronauts, from which only one of them was actually in space back in 1978 - Vladimir Remek. The other one was a substitute for Remek. Btw. Remek was a first astronaut in space which nationality was outside of USA or Russia (Soviet Union/USSR). ESA (European Space Agency) refers to him as the first european astronaut in history... and just to ad, in the close proximity to the metro station Haje was a multiplex cinema, called Galaxie (galaxy)...

    Nice! 🙂 Don't forget other transport options, you also have a suburban rail network in Vienna. For example, near Seestadt you could walk to Aspern Nord where suburban trains (Schnellbahn) and other local / regional express trains stop going to Stadlau (U2), Simmering (U3 near Erdberg) or Hauptbahnhof (U1). However, the Schnellbahn trunk line (not this one) is also disconnected for maintenance this summer - together with the U4 line - which angers many commuters. From Stadion you could also have used the miniature park railway Liliputbahn to get into Prater park.

      Oh a lot of great information there 😎 thank you! Haha yeh, a lot of commuters were getting angry/frustrated on the day I filmed 😋 I think the heat and humidity add to that though 😂🤭 gives you less patience to work out other transport options. I just googled the Liliputbahn🚂…now that would’ve been a fun option!
