Low Range in Nova Scotia
Canada
Приєднався 29 січ 2021
This channel is all about off roading in Nova Scotia, Canada. There will also be content from New Brunswick as I travel there to off road with my cousins. My truck is a heavily modified 1991 ranger called "the stumpy swamp donkey". It's always being modified, but for now, its a stock 4L/5spd with 3.55 gears. The diffs have been welded and its on 35's. I have a "skoolie" bus that's been converted to a class A motor home in front and has a ramp with an enclosed 16' garage in back. My wife was not content to sit in the passenger seat so she got herself an 02 Explorer which she calls "Dora" (Dora the Explorer) It sits on 33's. Also friends will show up to wheel.
UPDATE: We bought a 2021 Bronco Sport Badlands edition to off road in!! Now we can travel to fire roads etc legally!!
ANOTHER UPDATE: I'm back drag racing again, so, there will be video's of that too!

Family mud run!
We went to N.B. (5-6hr's) to visit family and go on a "family mud run". Had family from Alberta, N.B. and NS there. Some "big" trucks showed up to play too! With our 2023 Bronco Sport, we don't have the lift kit or the bigger tires the 2021 bronco sport had, and we found out this one is not as capable because of it! So, we went half way then I jumped in with my cousin Dave.
Lost sound part way through the video while in "old henry" the 300 6 cyl truck that has been abused for at least 15 years now, wide open all the time, never blows up. Jumping out of 4x4 and jumps out of gear though. The issue it kept quitting is that a fuel line got flattened on a rock so it kept "running out of fuel".

We had a hurricane come through our lake and was wondering how the rest of the lakes in the local area were. We decided to take the local trails and check them as well!
Bronco Sport accident

In a snowstorm, we put the bronco sport off a 90 degree corner called "dead man's corner" because when they first paved it a guy on a bike died there. Well, we were going slower but launched off the road down over an embankment. We went about 30-40 feet lower than the road and over a 100 feet in. Not a good evening... The total "damage" was minimal and not write off worthy but, insurance gave u...
Bronco Sport upgrade, rock sliders!!

We decided to upgrade our Bronco Sport with rock sliders to go with the HRG front skid plate and the skid plates I fabricated for the belly. I can jack the truck up with the rock sliders now, so I'm sure it will be strong enough for rocks and boulders! The rockers (I called them trockers in the video?? LOL) Anyway, the rockers are SUPER HARD as in boron steel or something like that I was told. ...

We replaced our Bronco Sport and the plan all along was to off road the Bronco Sport, and then move up to a full size Bronco. However, we really REALLY like our Bronco Sport. So we drove a bunch of Broncos and then decided the pros and cons of each. Bronco sport does EVERYTHING and does it very well. More capable than 90% of people realize. Bronco Sport snow recovery
Переглядів 4,6 тис.9 місяців тому
Bronco Sport snow recovery is about how Heather was coming home from work and decided to do a "short cut" home through an unplowed road. She thought there was only a foot or so of snow but it turns out that, that foot of snow was on top of another foot or two of snow. Break through the crust and you're done! I even got Dora (02 explorer on 33's) stuck trying to recover her!

Bronco sport on snowy trails
Переглядів 1,6 тис.9 місяців тому
Bronco sport on snowy trails is a quick video we made coming home one afternoon. Instead of driving the extra 5 miles or so, I cut through the woods on trails to get home instead. About 4" of snow packed solid with another 10-14" with 20" drifts. Took it all in stride, just crawled through.

I bought a blown up 302 because it had the D8OE heads on it that I need to build my stock eliminator drag engine. Once inside I found the only problem with the engine was whoever slapped it together!! Piston to wall clearance was .001 at most instead of .0015-.0026. Two pistons were scored badly but I cleaned them up with 900 grit sandpaper. The cam had .120 end play instead of .001-.003 becaus...
Drag racing my fox body in no-box

This is Greenfield Dragstrip in NS. I run the blue mustang in sportsman and no-box whenever I can, while the white one is still being rebuilt. No box is everyone run, as long as you don't have any delay box/etc in the car. 7 sec cars up to my 18 sec car, lol! This mustang is a 3.8 v6 with a c4 auto and 2.73 open diff. Not fast but proof you can run anything and be successful!
Part 4, rear suspension update on this old bracket car!
Переглядів 361Рік тому
Next up is the rear suspension update. It has a 9" and 4.86 gears but has never 60 footed like it should. Rear suspension always seemed "bound up". So, I decided after 30 years to tackle it, of course other stuff went bad..lol.

I am so impressed with where you take your Bronco Sport. I just got mine a week ago , the Badlands 2024. So far loving it, but don’t have the nerve to take it where you take yours. However your videos show how capable the Sport is. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
@@thomassarver7638 glad you enjoyed it! We have to get a lift and bigger tires on this one so it will be as capable as our 2021.
is this the big bend, just bought the 2024
@@rhealgoguen4363 no this is a badlands. If yours is a big bend, make sure you add skid plates before you off road it!
Those trails and power lines look like those in Ontario. Wicked trails, sweet rides. Thanks and respects from Ontario
My kid is in Trenton so we took the bronco up there and did some "fire roads", nothing like this but it was fun. (lived in Petawawa for 4 years too)
@ I live about 2.5 hrs. East of Trenton. Little village on Rideau Canal called Merrickville. If you or your buds are ever this way be great to see you. Could show you a few fairly tame trails

Very good ❤
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Did you mount it over the OEM plate with the spacers? Of remove it?
I followed the instructions and removed the plate and used the longer bolts supplied to install the skid plate.
I love Bronco Sport. Take me with you next time.
Believe it or not, this was a "family" gathering with everyone in the video related, LOL!! We need a lift and big tires like our 2021 called "baby" had.

@@edgybob1 you (and whoever is with you) will be surprised at how well it goes! Oh, if you get stuck, use the gas and brake to spool up the turbo when you fwd/rev/fwd to rock it. Otherwise, you let off the brake and hit the gas and it rolls forward with 50hp or so and then when you hit the end of the rut, the boost kicks in and it spins😂😂

Typical Boy Scout wannabe. Too fast for conditions. No snow tires. Bible study did tell you to be easy, correct!?
Sad! Glad the front HRG skidplate performed so well. Does your insurance allow you to keep it, minus the salvage cost? We tried out our skidplate and offroading, and turtled in a mud hole.ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkxiIX-RPlGxnEtG5TwmVLKkV7BBKJnPz9k?si=l2BT-mHm7koLCfUa
I too am both surprised and disappointed that Cyber Orange was dropped. Glad we got our 2022 when we did! I have decided that Ford is playing games with colors to create demand and foster a "better buy it now while you still can" mentality as a sales tool.
@@trapcoach maybe, it is a free market and that is how it works….
Just glad you weren't injured. It looks like you were fortunate in a way to miss the end of the guard rail and plow into the woods. Those tapered guard rails are responsible for a lot of rollover crashes because they act like a ramp. Off ot your next video to see if it was totalled and if so, what replaced it!
Thanks, yes we were blessed to be safe in a crash like that with me the only one with a seatbelt on! Wife scrunched into the floor on the passenger side and hung on and the passenger in the back hung onto my seat and ended between the front seats laying on the console. Why was no-one wearing a seatbelt? It’s 15 minutes home on secondary roads and I’m only going 50kmph (30mph).🫣🫣
what was your speed? Glad no injuries. Had you decreased your tire pressure any before leaving home?
No it was snowing but the tires made wet tire tracks because it was above freezing. At the top of the mountain though, there was black ice under the snow. Was going about 50km's in a 80 zone.
Oh No, not again! I hope everybody is ok but it seems like these things are so easily totaled. Keep us posted. If it is totaled, are you considering a 2025, it looks like they have made some nice changes.
Actually we already replaced it with a 2023 because you can't get cyber orange in 2024! We bought a new unsold one off the dealers lot. To be honest, this one has a moonroof and leather interior, neither thing I wanted but it was a badlands in cyber orange and we got a discount because it was a "left over" 2023. We just got back from a mud run (everyone again was on 35's up to 55" tractor tires) and made it less than we did with "baby" our 2021 badlands because we don't have a lift or different tires. That video will be coming out "soon" lol.
Did you remove the factory engine plate before installing this?
@@gvsukids this plate bolts on under the front, there is a light tin plate directly under the engine i replaced with an aluminum sheet (street sign, lol) and a steel skid plate i fabricated under the middle on the drivers side protecting the evap canister and fuel lines.
@@lowrangeinnovascotia2930 So does this not cover the same area as the engine skid plate?
@@gvsukids it covers under the front bumper and extends back to where the tin plate under the oil pan is. Without this skid plate, you can break the plastic bumper and jam a rock through the tin plate under the engine. This protects the front, then the tin cover covers back to the back of the k-member. If you off road a badlands you have protection for the gas tank and a tin plate for the oil pan. Non badlands don’t have the tin plate (its only felt) and dont have gas tank skid plates. If you are going to off road, you need to install a front skid plate to protect the plastic bumper and small bits down there. If you have a non-badlands BS, then do NOT off road until you add some sort of protection. I replaced the tin plate under the engine as well, because i felt it wasn’t going to protect the truck where i was going. Same reason i pulled the felt garbage off the bottom of the truck and added a belly skid plate.
@@lowrangeinnovascotia2930 So owning a badlands, this really only helps protect the bottom of the plastic and doesn't replace the engine plate?
@@gvsukids yes, i just went out and looked at our new badlands, apparently i left the metal plate under the engine and this is bolted on from the four front bolts under the front. There is a steel plate i forgot about and the tin cover i was talking about before is the tin plate/heat shield behind the engine skid plate. So, if you go over a rock and come down on top of it, the factory steel plate under the engine will protect it. However, if you run into a rock(which is 99% more likely to happen) then this skid plate protects the bottom of the bumper and the plastic stuff in front of the factory skid plate under the engine. If you off road, you should get a front skid plate like this so you have protection, not only under the engine or only the gas tank, but front to rear. If you dont clear a rock, you will smash into it with this plate or your plastic bumper, cant say it any more clear than that.

Do it! Take it on fire roads and stuff first so you get used to where the wheels are and how to avoid rocks, but yes, you have to enjoy it more than just "an awd car that's great in the winter". They are very capable!
On the website it says the 1.5 will not fit the badlands edition, is that true or how did you make it work?
is it a 1.5 or 2.0 do the 1.5 have enough power ?
it snto really a power thing i tested the limits of deep snow in my bnroco sport it just cant get any grip after a certain depth now with snow tires it might have been ok
What did it end up being
Can’t remember if it was this video or the next. The voltage regulator went bad and put it to 18-20 volts which blew the computer, the pick up in the distributor and while I did change the tfi module, once I got it running I put the old original back in. It’s still in and running.
Does that decrease your side ground clearance any? Nice job!
Not really, it’s 1 1/2” thick and that extra inch and a half isn’t worth possibly crunching the rockers. Unless you look, you wouldn’t know they are there, that’s one reason I made them that way. Glad you like them, the other reason I bolted them straight to the rockers was because I didn’t want to have bars hanging down and sticking out out place.
Just go on with your baaad selves!!! And have a ball.
Oh we do! If I knew how good retirement was, I would of done it 30 years ago!😂😂😂
We had the same plan and wound up with both our original sport and a 2dr big bronco. Couldn't let the sport go! Also, the 2 door big bronco is very fun, but not very practical. The sport is practical while still being a lot of fun.
Thanks, you just convinced me my decision to keep the BS was right! (Not saying I won’t get a full size just to play with, lol)
@@JoeKington excellent comment! I had an epiphany the other day, we had to put our dog down end of august and both boys are gone now… we don’t “need” the room we had. Big bronco is becoming more and more in range of a reality. (Not for 4 more years now though, lol)

Video is boring because I was trying to get this done as quick as possible and get back to working on my mustang, first race is two weeks away!
Great name! We took our BSBL out on a trail yesterday
They are WAY more capable than people realize!
I hated the grey roof when I first saw it on a red Sport, but I think it looks good on Cyber Orange. Maybe not as good as black , but good. Man, on my deathbed if somebody asks about regrets I'm going to say, "picked Area51 over Cyber Orange on my Bronco Sport".
LOL! Yes we like it too, no idea why they would stop making it. Now if I can convince her to get some black graphics, lol!
I wasnt a fan of gunmetal roof either but in person I love it on my '23 in Iconic Silver. Goes great with the wheels.
You can get the roof wrapped, if you don't like the color but I am glad to see you back in a BS and look forward to more videos! Any plans on a new lift or tires? I have the Flatout GR+ coilovers and am lifted 2" but you might be interested in the HRG Offroad, 2.5" lift, though the front subframe drop makes it somewhat difficult/time consuming. He says he is now running 245/70/17 tires, on the OEM wheels.
Hmmm, I know she said she wants to wait for a bit before putting a lift on, but 2.5”?? Now that sounds interesting! And bigger tires are ALWAYS better!!😂😂
Congratulations my friend!
Thanks!
Is this a Badlands? I have a Big Bend, and want skidplates for it. I understand the lower trims like mine have differences in design...
Yes this is a badlands. I too heard there were differences in the front bumper shape but HRG could answer that. Pretty sure the one he installed in his video was a outer banks. I’d say yes though, the front skid plate is only four screws and spacers that replace the factory screws.
Nazareth !! We can be friends 😊
LOL!! Funny part is, although I play guitar/banjo/harmonica/banjitar/fiddle and the wife plays drums (well used to in a band) I no longer find the inspiration to even listen to music, let alone play it. Any music is 100% her, not me. I like to drive in silence and listen to the vehicle.
Looks like a lot of fun! Nice job.
Thanks! She can’t go by a trail without saying “I wonder where that goes “?? 😂😂😂😂 Gives me lots of content 😁
