How to: 1960-1963 GMC & Chevy Truck Windshield with Stainless Trim Installation

This is the long version of how to remove and install a 1960, 1961, 1962, or 1963 Chevrolet or GMC windshield with the custom cab trim. I used glue to hold the rubber to the window to keep it dry and to help with the stainless instillation. You can install the windshield without glue, but it makes the job way harder with the stainless trim, and it won't be a water tight seal. Chapters: 00:00 in...

1956 Chevy Wiring Issue Repair and How To Do a Brake Hone on a TriFive
Wait so your saying that I have to push my shifter slightly to the left in up instead of just up for the 4 speed? Ive been working on a se 1986 4 speed v6
Very well organized and instructions are good and kept simple. No wasted time fumbling with tools or camera.
One of the best auto repair videos I have ever seen. Nice to watch something narrated by a smart and articulate person. Do you still have the Fiero? I just bought a 85 SE V6.
Yes I do
sure wish you woulda showed where that green ground wire goes on the circuit board, I forgot which post i took it off of
@@davenonyabiz2820 these tons of green wires. I labeled them all with the numbers that match the circuit board location
@@JerrSpud well i meant the one from the heater. I figured it out now by looking at the wiring diagram on the back of the cover. Sometimes it take me a bit to think straight.
Thanks buddy
ALSO have an 87 & has mirrors on both sides, just ordered new 1s, Amazon,65$. will install tomorrow.Thankyou for the advice, saves time&take the top off to have more room to work with 👍🏼
Hi Jerr, can't use the 'reply button',doesn't work anymore on my pc. I did try to test it, just a simple test lite, not a multimeter or anything, one time I got a positive , but the next time I tried to go through to find a neg ground, I got nothing, not even the one positive. I've gone ahead & gotten a new motor, it that fixes it, fine, if it doesn't , I'll know it's in the wiring. Sorry for the tardy reply, I don't spend much time online.
I need one of those white clip where did you get it at please reply
where did you get that white clip for blend door at please reply
USED is the only option. I called a C4 junk yard and got it.
I have a 1998 Jimmy, the front passenger window went down, won't go back up...when I use either the driver's side control or the one on the passenger door, I hear nothing, like NOTHING, no clicking, no motor hum....what to do from here? Any advice would be appreciated. I don't want to redo the motor if it's a wiring problem.
pull the door card off and test it
3 years ago, so no idea if you'll reply, but i've watched a couple of these and i'm just wondering if you separate the tie rod first, will that give you easier access to the carrier bolts?
@@nobodyspecial-d5j carrier bolts? The u joint bolts?
@@JerrSpud sorry, i'm sure i'm using the wrong term, yes the u joint bolts, my apologies
@@nobodyspecial-d5j they were rather easy to remove. A shorter socket would have helped. That was the issue I had
@@JerrSpud thanks
So having watched a bunch of these, I notice no one is removing the sportseat. Thanks to the air pump you gain almost no reach threw access to the connector underneath. You can't remove the cushions unless you are willing to touch the probable fragile lumbar hose connection. Also reconnecting cushion is fun because of less access/wiggle room. The wire connector under the seat has a clip on only one side, that will probably be facing the away from you as contort yourself into foot area trying to disconnect it. I found that after the seat bolts were removed tilting the seat back and putting a brick under the front made it easier to see wire harness connections and work on them.
Same problem with my 89...Same solution! Saved my Vette - thx Jerr!!!
Love your C4 video series. Please remove the background music.
Wonder if there's a way to replace the "tensioners". Mine (on the right) keeps flopping down like a wet noodle every time I hit a bump.
are you talking about the whole visor or the cover for the mirror?
spot on, easy to follow, thx
fantastic information thank you.
I have a 1989 c 4 it motor turns over but. Won't start
you need fuel and spark. Check those
Great info on that tool!
I don't have the high pressure port at the front ! How's that Possible ? It's a 84 Fiero. Early Ones didn't have it ?
@@jovanluit8262 idk. I don't have a shop manual for an 84. I would have to look on the internet to find out where your high pressure port is.
Or you could just invest in a garage.
@@bradyzimmel I have seven cars and a two car garage. How do you get all your cars to fit inside?
@@JerrSpud I been watching your series and really have enjoyed it. If your garage ceiling is high enough I recommend a car lift.
Thanks for the video. Im wiring my 55 dash, and this answered my gas gauge question.
Dumb question, what rims are those?
I've been told they are C5 wheels
Hey brother, you were one of the main reasons I bought a C4. Miss you posting
I apricate that. I've been super busy with life and haven't had any time for the C4 this year. I did get some parts for it, so I will be able to post at least one update and how to swap the rear glass.
Were trying to figure out why the fuse keeps blowing that goes to the fan on a 86 vette.
This 5 minute video was more useful than a 2 hour video from other UA-camrs, thank you sir.
Thank you for the great information in a very well presented manner WELL DONE SIR!!!! My 87 thanks you
There are decent car covers with soft lining inside so even if it shifts in the wind scratches arent likely. Plus the cover has side ventilation to allow it to breath underneath. I have a Hypersonic Gray Metallic 9Shich scratches and swirls quite easily (Anyone that has one can attest) and it hasnt put any swirls or sratches on it, still looks like a mirror and I had the cover on without taking it off for 2 months straight already outdoor with NO canopy or anything. I forgot to tie it down all the way and it was really windy the other day and the cover blew up like a balloon over the car, but never came off and still didnt scratch. The cover even has soft lining over any grommets and buckles.
In my situation this was receiving all four seasons of weather. Rain, sleet, snow, wind, and sun for several years.
@@JerrSpud Thats pure abuse..lol. Did you ever end up gving it fresh paint?
What happens if you remove the fuse right there beside that relay to the VAT system
I'd image the car would never start if you pulled that fuse. The fuse that says "theft" is for the theft deterrent system.. basically it will keep your horn from honking if you take it out.
What are the plastic pieces called that are held on by the push clips
When? I don't know the name off every single rivet off the top of my head? 😁
Great Tutorial. How long does it take to fully charge the system after the swap?
no long. It's how much you add in pounds or how much pressure you have on the gauge to know when it's full.
I hate corvettes everything breaks, nothing but POS. I do not understand why they are such crap to work on. I have an 87 all the same problems.
my recline is basically broken... seat back flops around freely. so i need to rip the entire thing out to see whats going on
works with fountain drinks too!
lol.. I'd be too afraid to try that. :-)
Amazing. Works on fords as well or only Chevy?
I don't know. I don't own a Ford.
Hi Jerry.. I have the 1988 35th Anniversary Triple White Edition. I am the 2nd owner.. 62 K miles.. the car is mint all original. I show it during the summer and it does well. Anyway the blend door is the only issue I have.. you have shine some light on the subject.. my issue is AC won’t blow cold.. compressor was changed which was bad and it worked fine for awhile. I had a mechanic rig the door so the ac would work but I guess the door has repositioned itself again.. but thank you for putting that video on.. I had the code issue thing with mine.. MAF sensor etc.. I subscribed to your channel.. thanks again
is the compressor always running when the AC is on?
My baffle was dried out and it cracked in half when i removed it. it’s a discontinued part. maaaan
Mine is 96 I'm trying get it out with out removing dash not want heat
Ice job. I'm taking out the heater box will it not drop down and out.?
Thanks much for the video. It's always great when people document their repairs for C4s as info is limited. You might amend your title though to state 84-89 as the interiors dramatically changed in 1990.
is the switch different?
@@JerrSpud Yep, completely different switches, in different locations, etc. Nevertheless, you gave me some good ideas and I fixed my issue today with help via motivation from your video!
@@ZBrink11 I know the interiors are different, I assumed there would be crossover in how the switches worked.. I'll check that out. thank you
The seat motors are the same in all C4s. The only change is the plug changed shape in mid 1987. The switches look different, but function the same way. Testing the seat motor will be the same in all C4s. I made a change in the description.
@@JerrSpud Mostly correct. The basic motors and transmissions are the same. If the car has sport seats, it adds in more complexities for air lumbar and bolster support. Also, some years had power tilt as an option which adds an additional and separate motor, track, etc. The switches as well as the console and dash are dramatically different 1990 onward which changes the disassembly and some troubleshooting procedures. Again, I super appreciate people like you making the time and effort to do these videos. I will do tutorials for the forums but it's a little beyond my bandwidth to do a video like this so I appreciate you. Also, watching your video motivated me to finally get to the root cause of my own seat issue which I resolved and I'm ecstatic over! Thank you again!
So much easier to remove the lock rod clips (black with the red square)before installing the door panels then at the end just press the clips in
If I understand what you are saying, that is what I did. I installed the panel and didn't clip the plastic part on yet.
I have a 91 c4 and having the intermittent no start. New starter, have the vats bypass. No one can figure it out. I'm leaning to the neutral safety switch by need to know how to bypass it
have you bypassed and tested the starter?
Starter is good. When it doesn't start, if i let it set for a couple hours, then it'll start. It does this when cold or hot, there's no set pattern.
How would i bypass the starter?
I watched the video again and saw how to bypass the starter.
Awesome video
Nice video, I have a 1989 with low mileage and it has the same climate control system and from time to time the blend door doesn’t seem to work but all I do is run water onto the windshield when the engine is running and then the blend door will start working. It could be a coincidence as well.
Good job
I did this to remove hard water stain deposit on my truck glass
I just use a SOS pad with soap for hard water on glass.
Tried that first but this was really tough stuff
Good point. That it really what the cerium oxide is best for when you use it on its own.
why do idiots do vids?
What was the final solution to the intermittent starting?
it's shown at the end with the relay bypassed.
Well explained, thank you,
