Amazing!!! That era of Allman, Smith and the like! Truly golden age
Wonderful. Thanks for uploading.
Thank you very much Brad Jarrett, they sound wonderful👏👏👏
A really lovely vissi d'arte, gorgeous voice. A potentially brilliant career tragically cut (very) short by a horrible accident early on in her career.
My grandfather's story final told! Thank you Brad. Tempremental... it's actually called demands respect! Good luck treating people like this these days. Donald Smith OBE Australia's greatest tenor long lives on x
Don Smith ❤excellent tenor.....wish him on stage today.......❤
Did I get my tenors mixed up, that was Gedda with Birgit, he looked different in his next solo?
Heaven! I had to start from the beginning not from where I paused it but just enjoying it all again - Birgit Nilsson and Gedda, just fabulous even in their later years, so touching. Thankyou!
She’s amazing! Je tremble! Thanks Brad.
Brava, Angela Gilbert, that was Lovely👏👏👏
The concert is pure delight! Elizabeth Soderstrom's rendition of Grieg's song, sung in her rich resilient voice, perfectly intoned, & so articulately projected, was beyond perfection, & moistened my eyes! At close to 77 years of age, so many sweet memories surfaced for an opera fan! Bjorling was a hot favourite, amongst the greatest voices in the history of opera! Thank you for the post! Jamshed K Delvadavala Mumbai.
1:53:18 , the storm scene was wonderful! Not sure if the cat flying past was there in that early presentation of it.
The glory days of Australian Opera, an almost completely repertory company, then the third busiest in the world with 15-17 operas a year and seasons in several cities. Now sadly impoverished and presenting mainly potboilers as young people just won't come and the tourist trade is not the type to go to the opera.
RIP, Mr. Hadley. As honest as ever in another interview, he did not mince his words and spoke his mind on the current state of music which remains the same after 30+ years.
I’m very grateful for your uploading, Mr. Jarrett, thank you so much!
3:00 Prologue.
A world class tenor voice so similar to the great Fritz Wunderlich. I heard him live a number times at the Sydney Opera House and was always thrilled by his wonderful voice and technique- this recording attests to that.
Wonderful singer
Saw him in Sydney in CAV/PAG great singer
THE BEST OF THE BEST....I HEARD THIS INCREDIBLE VOICE AND SUBLIME WELSH TENOR RANGE SO MANY TIMES AS A PATRON OF THE AO..KEN IS AMAZING... SINGING TURANDOT.'S CALAF... I HAVE NEVER HEARD BETTER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those who may watch this and are opera novices, the conductor is Joan’s husband Richard Bonynge. He played a huge part in her career, developing and nurturing her voice for the 40 years she sang. Hard to believe she wanted to be a Wagnerian singer like her mother, and like her idol Kirstin Flagstaad! He found she had this whole upper voice and developed it. He used to have her stand away from the piano to practise and because she did not have perfect pitch (i.e. she did not know by ear which note she was singing) he would hide how high he was making her sing. She didn’t realise she had that coloratura soprano voice until he brought it out. Some people say sarcastically he rode on her coat tails, but he certainly did not. The world would not have had her if not for him.

Momentos memoráveis de três gênios do canto lírico. Que épica magnífica podermos conviver com estes seres humanos incomparáveis.
Listening to the King as I get into costume. It really was everything!! That voice 🙂

Fantastic! Is there any video or audio of the entire performance!? She’s an ideal Norina!!
what a joy...
What a thrill for their colleagues as well!
I really like this Opera.
Horne pavarotti grandi ❤❤❤❤sutherland non mi è mai piaciuta...Ci sono voci piu belle e interessanti nel panorama lirico 😢
I get very emotional every time I watch this. I was in the audience the first time Sutherland and Horne sang duets - opening night of the 1963 Norma in Vancouver. I heard all three of them numerous other times but not together.
Are yes 3 of the greatest singers of all time. Pavarotti and Dame Joan are singing with the angels but the lovely Marilyn Horne still graces us with the her presence.
I saw this production back in 1984, the top of her voice was huge.
This is INCREDIBLE. Making me cry! I miss Dame Joan and Luciano so much. Dame Joan is my all-time favorite, the voice of all time. Ms. Marilyn is still with us, but of course, no longer sings since she is 90, so I miss her, too. Her "Mon coeur" is unequaled. How I love this video! One dislike - Bonynge couldn't follow Marilyn to save his life.
Superb.
That first singer has the best English diction I've ever heard. Thank God. Usually nobody can understand the text.
Que belleza escuchar estos tres grandes del canto lírico. Bravoooooo
Превъзходно!!
Love him.xx
Is there any possible way that this recording can be remastered, perhaps digitized? It is such a great production of Trial by Jury, and Anthony Warlow as the young defendant is magnificent!
Sorry it's taken from an old VHS and I don't have the equipment
One of the most beautiful arias of Donezetti's Operas, starts here. 36:26 till the end of Prologue.
Wonderful recording of my dear departed friend Guy. I never heard him sing in German, but he talked fondly of his time performing in Germany. Thank you for sharing it's been very emotional listening to this. 🙏 ❤
Fair dinkum Verdi bass!
Великолепно❤ Спасибо Аракс М. Спасибо🎉
What a beautiful rendition of this beloved Grieg song. Elisabeth Söderström sang with such depth of feeling. My wife and I met her in 2005 during an international Jussi Björling congress in Stockholm. She spoke at a panel in the Gold Room of Operan, along with other Swedish operatic luminaries, including Ingvar Wixell, Eric Sweden, Kerstin Meyer, and others. The next day, she joined the other attendees at the Music Museum where we all listened to presentations on Jussi and his art. She was so gracious and listened attentively, as we all did. We had opportunities to speak during the breaks. She told us that she grew up listening to Jussi because her father played his records in their home, and she never thought she would ever sing on the same stage with him. I recall that she made her debut at the Met 1959 in Faust with Jussi and Robert Merrill. She later commented how Jussi reassured her that the Met audience would love her, and that he was the one to be nervous because they expected so much from him. It put her at ease. It testified to Jussi's consideration for his colleagues. It was one of the pressures felt by great artists at the top of their form. She was great lady, and, you will see from this concert, also had a great sense of humor.

Thank you, Brad Jarrett, I knew Robert (Bob) very well; an absolutely world class voice. Control, tone, colour, power. I could go on!
I started to see/hear this with both curiosity and doubts. THEN I noticed the VERY GOOD singing and good acting... Great. I had my doubts about the Cenerentola being a Coloratura Soprano. And then... I found that this lady really tackled it. That and ALL of the baritones too. Great work, my Aussie friends!... I did love this performance! Hope you all did too 🤗 Dandini also deserves a very positive note. Non piú mesta: stil very good, despite not in th Cecilia Bartoli's style. This seals my overall positive impression of this performance ♥️
Bernadette Cullen is a mezzo soprano.
I must add here also a great appreciation for the Maestro and the Gents Choir! The Maestro is one of the most lively ones I have ever seen, just like a performer himself.
I was there that night. It was magical
