Making a DREAMY garden dress 🦋🌸 | PART 1
Today we are making a dreamy garden dress! I am using the Rose Cafe Bustier pattern to sew a summer-garden inspired dress! I show you the process of sewing a dress, including designing the dress, choosing fabric, and making the bustier! My design was inspired by designers like Teuta Matoshi, and I will show you my take on a floral garden themed dress. In part 2 we will finish the dress and I will show you the final reveal!

Amazing! Your dress will be so gorgeous.
Thank you! Can't wait to show you part two 😊
That looks so good. Can't wait for the part 2. ❤
Me too! Thanks for watching!
Excellent, thank you. Like you, no patience for toiles unless really need to!
So true! Thanks for watching!
You did such a great job, the vest is Beautiful.
So glad you liked it, thanks!
I love the dress you’re wearing. Is it me made as well? If so, what is the name of the pattern?
Thank you so much! Yes, I made it! The pattern is The Wilder Gown by Friday Pattern Co. I actually have a video about making it, from two years ago if you scroll back on my channel :)
@@MadeByMelm Thank you so much! I’ll check it out.
No matter how many times i stare at the sleeve gusset, i just can't figure out how it works 😅
Ah gussets can be confusing! The pointier part goes near the underarm, if that helps!
@@MadeByMelm That helps a lot! Sleeves are always scary for me to sew XD
I love everything you made! It feels like a pretty impressive quantity to me but I know that it varies from person to person. You've great pattern/fabric matching instincts!
Thanks Cassie! I guess sometimes I plan too much and I'm disappointed when I don't sew as much as I expected, but that's life and I am definitely my worst critic!
So many fun makes! My favourite is the floral sweater, I've made something similar last year as well. It's so comfy!!
Thank you so much! Yes, aren't these sweaters just the best for practical everyday wear? I'm glad you have one you love too!
Gorgeous makes as always! 💖💖💖
Thank you so much! 💖
Lovely makes and they 3:21 suit you you beautifully
Thank you very much! 😊
Love the fleece top…looks so cozy!
Thanks, it is so cozy and incredibly warm! 😊
Just discovered your channel a few months ago and thought you had quit but subscribed just in case. Glad you're back.
So glad you stuck around! Hoping to be able to post more regularly this fall! 😊
Lovely assortment of projects! I really appreciated the comments on pattern fit sizing and drafting.
Thank you so much, glad it was helpful for you! 😊
Love the striped dress! I’ve been looking for a pattern just like it after seeing the Billy J Sunny Daze dress. I have the perfect charmeuse fabric in a rust colour for this.
Ooh you will love it, its a beautiful dress! Just don't make my mistake, add the seam allowance! 😆
wow mccalls 8525 looks so stunning
Thank you, I love it! The green fabric is beautiful!
I bet this is way too expensive in Canada 🇨🇦 BC ❤
Fabric is definitely expensive! But so worth it! 😄 Thanks for watching!
@MadeByMelm you bet sweetie 🌹
super excited to see all the work you have been doing! first off, the beach cover-up works really well with the orange accent, i'm sure you got lots of compliments on that one. the green-silk fabric piece looks very challenging to work on, thats a piece I would keep and work out the kinks on, very nice color. I personally love the floral fleece sweater (and personally, I like the longer sleeves) it has a beautiful fit it and I really like the the circular zipper-pull you place on it. nice touch! I honestly was surprised at your criticism on the black and white striped dress, as this was probably my favorite piece you did out of all of them ironically, ha! as for the frocktail dress, it has a very magical feel to it and really think you did an outstanding job on the overall finished piece, there is a lot you could do with that dress in terms of occasional settings. keep it up, love it all <3
Thank you so much for your comment! UA-cam tells me you are my #1 commenter, I really appreciate all your support :) I agree that the striped dress is stunning, I think my judgement is clouded by how hard it was to make it since I forgot the seam allowance! 😆 After seeing the green dress in this video, I feel more warmly towards it! The fabric is definitely exceptional (when not wrinkled!) I agree the sweater is easy to wear and the fit is overall great! I can't wait to share more about the frocktails dress soon, just editing my video now! Thanks again for your support! 😊
@@MadeByMelmlove your passion, keep it up 🧤
Thanks Mel, I loved the video and have ordered the pattern and lining as I have the wool mix fabric already to go. Really helpful hints and as I have made a Chanel style jacket prior to this which hand sews the lining in at the sleeves and hem, think that will be a better way to do it as you mentioned bagging out left you not liking the hem finish - which I agree with. I will however, be watching this again as I sew and I loved your coat finish. Thanks.
Thank you so much for watching, I'm glad you liked it! I definitely think hand-sewing the lining is a good way to go! Goodluck on your coat! :)
OMG!! A beautiful queen making our nomad dress , i swear never saw such gorgeous afghan dress so far!!!❤️🔥😍🥰😘
wow thank you so much! I really wanted to do this style of dress justice! Glad you liked it! :)
Love this tutorial! I have this pattern and after watching I can’t wait to start sewing this dress. Thank you. I love how you explain. 👏🏼👌🏻
I'm so glad you liked this, have fun with your dress! 😊
Okay I just made this and I feel like the size 12 is smaller than the measurements listed, but I agree on lengthening the straps for the bust area the sit lower. I did just get some nicer fabric to hopefully make all needed adjustments on the 2nd round with this pattern!
That is so interesting! I hope you have success with your second version! 😊
fashion habits! 🦋
you remind me of bobbi altoff!!! so pretty 🎉
thank you so much!
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you! :)
@@MadeByMelm no,thank you 🌹
It looks sooo beautiful. I decidet to ad small shoulder pads to give it a bit more strukture. I love it.
Thank you so much for watching! Shoulder pads are always a great idea for structure!
Well done on that coat Mel...it's gorgeous and looks so professional. xx Karen
Thank you! It was definitely a labour of love!
I finished this coat today. Your tutorial was key to my success. Thank you for a very thorough, thoughtful, step-by-step instructional.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I'm so glad it was helpful for you! 😊
This is on my cutting table and I admit I'm a bit nervous about so many steps. I appreciate you showing us the process Mel. Your blazer turned out to be gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing more of what you make. xx Karen
Don't be nervous. It comes together really nicely. The sewalaong is super helpful.
@@Ranunkel121 thank you 😊
Thank you both! I believe you can do it, one step at a time! 😊
Beautiful coat well done, I would like to buy this pattern how do I go about it❤
So glad you liked it! I have it linked in the description of the video :)
Thank you💕
You're a lot younger than I am, but I like your pant pattern selections. You've introduced me to more INDIE companies. Thanks.
Thank you so much! Fashion is timeless and great for any age! 😊
You did a wonderful job🎉
Thank you! 😊
Your picks included some pattern designers I haven’t heard of so this was worth watching.
Glad I could share some new brands!
Wow!! You have such a wide variety of garments you’ve made, and they all look so great! Very nice work and a very nice collection! 💙💙💙
Thank you very much! 😊
You nailed it with those leggings, girl! Loooooove
Thank you! 😊
Lydia Naomi designed a KnowMe pattern (ME2049)that really hits the nail on the head for a draw cord gathered dress. I’d love to see your take on that pattern.
Ooh I've seen that one and I love that one as well!
The Worker Trousers are a pattern that I've been stalking probably since it was released! 🙃 Hetti also has a wonderful newsletter that gives lots of inspo and shots of other makers using her patterns. They are very versatile. Thanks for this roundup!!
Lol I have been stalking them too! I'm hoping to tackle them this fall! 😊
Great video Mel, you are so good at this. I loved your unique selection for each category. God bless ❤
So glad you found this helpful! Thanks for watching! 😊
love your takes MEL! you an original <3
Thank for all the ongoing support! 😊
Mel, I'm not sure if it was this video or another recent one where you asked us to share other interesting online fabric stores. There is Former and Latter Fabrics in Edmonton Canada. They seem to get in high quality fabrics at a great price. They are also now selling LDH (Canadian owned) quality well priced scissors.
Thank you so much for the recommendation!
You look beautiful in your dresses! You achieved really nice fit and finishes!
Thank you so much! Much appreciated! 😊
I really loved the blouses/tops that ranked lowest, even though I can understand your reasoning. I hope to see you make those again and be successful. They were really pretty!
Haha thank you so much! It was hard to rank them....some of the insides/construction of those earlier projects were really bad lol!
I enjoy listening to other people's reviews of their sewing journeys. I realised a couple of things you said were also true about me like when you were talking about your fabric preferences and the importance of fit and so on. You inspired me to sew more challenging things, like for example there's this dress that I like and I have no idea yet how to sew it😅 There's nothing like wearing your own clothes. Sewing is so rewarding. I've been sewing for a year now and I'm proud to say my entire summer wardrobe is handmade and unique. Subscribed!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I'm so glad that you found it interesting and relatable! You should definitely go for that dress, and let me know how it goes! Goodluck with your sewing! 😊
Love that dress. Love the fabric choices and glad you lined it.
Thank you so much! Yes, so glad I lined it too! Thanks for watching! 😊
Great review of your sewing journey. You have learned so much. I wouldn't call any of your projects fails. You learned what doesn't work and what to avoid in the future. You also learned what you like and don't like. This was a good assessment of your feelings about sewing.
Thank you so much! I think it is helpful to reflect like this to make sure I am spending my sewing time wisely. Thank you for watching! 😊
Beautiful work! Impressive finishings and adaptations.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your support 😊
the leora dress is so divine. the zipper is genius. innovate FTW
Thank you so much! I was glad I decided the throw the zipper in, otherwise I definitely wouldn't have been able to get it on! 😝
I love your earings, you look great!
Thank you, that is so kind! Thanks for all the support and comments 😊
I would love to see you make another version of the second dress in a stretchier fabric to see how you think they compare.
That is a really good idea! If I make it I will make sure to post on the channel and update! 😊
