the bus qld Translink bus would have been assembled at volgren body builder dandenong.
I'm surprised you did find ok... It is not good and quite long...
I took the sleeper cabin in a train and it wasn't good as it is hard to sleep there but it is option and I'd rather take that than a sitting down position in a bus! However there are always some who can't afford things so it's good there are cheaper options if one is in need...
This bus also picks up from Gundagai at 1am, if need be
It may not be the most lavish way to travel, but going from one capital city to another for the cost of a packet of smokes is a decent public service. My problem is that I’m a chunky bloke, so it’s a bit squeezy if there’s two of us! That’s why I’m always really happy if I get two seats to myself! Thanks for this video, it’s very good. I’ve subscribed and look forward to watching the rest of your work.
@@MattsScaleModels Very convenient service for people on a budget definitely! Thank you for watching.
Ah, disabled toilets. Malfunction. Yeah, mum went to one at Melbourne airport on return from Sydney. The door was a swipe the lights not push button. Took two hours until the management called the fire brigade. Took two seconds with the crow bar. The door fizzed open. Mum was free. I was pissed it took so long. The firey's agreed. We have not travelled since.
Did you get much sleep?
@@suave-rider surprisingly I got a couple hours in.
I did Melbourne to the Gold Coast BY AAT in 1983. Was staying at Tara Village. That was 24 hours. Also returned by coach. Saw many places. But I could have flown to Europe in 24 hours! But saying that, I have also done The Ghan and Indian Pacific, those are 2 and 3 day trips. Australia is really big. Cheers.
Great review. Imagine a shinkansen and three hours Mel to Syd.
Awesome video mate. Greyhound also offers a competing overnight coach service between Sydney and Melbourne. 3:35 yep I believe a lot of these Volgren buses are made in Victoria - bit of a drive up though...
@@GreatAussieDrives Glad you enjoyed! I’ve never been on a greyhound service maybe something in the future?
Looks like an easy way to travel between the two cities.
Only if you are an out and out bus coach tragic. This means of interstate travel is unfathomable for most Australians.
I have never understood why firefly does not run a daylight service between Melbourne and Sydney given they do offer a twice daily service from Melbourne to Adelaide.
I first caught a firefly coach (Sydney to melbourne) in 1987 - back then it was $29. They had TWO drivers - because they did it in 4h shifts and had a bunk down the back for the other one. Took a little under 12 hours from Central to (Spencer street, now Southern cross), and stopped at Goulburn and Albury (back in those days, the bypass wasn't built yet, and you HAD to go through Albury anyway). It was a smooth enough ride that I could, and often did, sleep through at least one "major stop" - so getting on in Melbourne and waking up on approach to Goulburn, for example. Their coaches have got a bit better from what I see. Albury was often a rush for the toilets at the rest stop (same for Goulburn on the Sydney departures).
@@chromedog68 I’m not much of a bus person but this bus in particular is definitely one I’d take again if I had to. Cheap tickets, friendly drivers & heaps of legroom!
I enjoyed this video
Thanks for the excellent trip description. Glad the trip went so well.
Nice video.. think you missed one of the government jets at 0.35. While that was an older 737 - reason for ashtrays is still needed.. in the event that someone does try and smoke in the lavs, you want to make it easy to extinguish, and not have them throw the cigarette in the bin filled with paper towels
Jye I work for Scania (the bus company who makes the chassis ) and today was talking to one of the owners of Firefly who I deal with on a regular basis. They are always pleased to hear feedback (good & bad ) so their service is better. Thank you for the review. Happy travels to you!!
Everyone says Perth is isolated but lets be real here, every city in Australia is isolated. 11 hrs between melb and Sydney lol. Not exactly down the street either
speed limits need to double, we need an autobahn
buses don't go more than 120km/h on german highways i rode a flixbus from Munich to Berlin, took more than 7 hours. much more comfortable looking than this bus, but still pretty slow we need any kind of modern rail, doesn't have to be super fast, just fast enough that we can get from the Sydney terminal to Southern Cross in under 6 hours
Congrats on hitting 200 subscribers
@@GhostlineExpress oh wow I just noticed Thank you for your support!
Back in the 80s and 90s before cheap flights, there would have been 10-20 buses each night going between Sydney-Mel-Bris. These buses serve a purpose - inexpensive and they pick up and drop down at towns along the way.
I was once in a group trip to Nelson and Mt Gambier from Adelaide, and I had to sit in a 24 seat Mitsubishi Fuso for 13 hours, a long distance bus like this one was what I wanted to go on!
Prefer taking the train. It is a miserable experience being trapped in the coach for 11 hrs.
What a top bloke that bus driver is
I did a trip March 2015, Liverpool NSW- Southern cross, im big fella 6'7" i was tired and very uncomfortable. but $65
Didn't know why he waited till people got off the train to pull the seat back. He could've done it when he boarded the train or even while travelling on it.
Was there 1 or 2 bus drivers last time I got a long distance coach there was 2 drivers one drives 5 hours other one sleeps 5 hours
This driver drove us the whole distance.
@@Jyetravels That does not sound safe to me.
@@peterbreis5407no I agree risk of driver falling asleep at the wheel
@@ivanmilja9441 To be fair there is nothing on the ticket about you arriving in Sydney, alive.
Truck drivers can drive up to 14 hours depending on if they have completed a fatigue management course
Almost 900 kms in 11 hours is not bad for a bus journey. and it was also very well presented in the video. Subscribed.
Thank you for support!
That translink is a along way from home being its a bus QLD probably a Ipswich bus or Park Ridge up in QLD, Interesting its all the way down their being Volgren has a huge plant in Eagle Farm Brisbane where lots are made & sent to the southern states as well as QLD, they do have a factory also in N.S.W, VIC, Interestingly that translink bus was looking like its been around a while.. I would not like the job of driving that back up to QLD..
Great video buddy
Hey @jyetravels new subscriber here I’m into aviation and studying be a pilot, can we get more flight reviews possible and thanks 🙏
@@Coolwow437 Thanks for your support, Sure there will be plenty more aviation related videos coming in the near future! Any Recommendations?
@@Jyetravelshehe yeh i work for Qantas link, could you do Sydney to Melbourne or Sydney to port Macquarie on the q400 Sydney to Launceston A220 haha to many recommendations sorry
In terms of an experience… Jetstar from Darwin - Melbourne (Tullamarine). The flight leaves extremely early in the morning and as it’s a four hour domestic, it’s a surreal experience to see everything in the terminals closed at Darwin and Melbourne when they’re usually hives of activity.
That driver was hilarious
Was a very entertaining ride that’s for sure!
I didn't know this was doable
Great vid Jye! Very helpful. A new Sub now.

Thanks for the great vlog. We want to go to Charleville, starting at Ipswich, so we can experience the Victoria Tunnel and the very windy section from Grandchester to Laidley. Not sure whether November is too hot in Charleville. Also, what is the catering like for food and drinks?
@@clayauslewis4236 you are given 3 meals included in trip but it’s very light like a sandwich or small cereal bowl you can buy light refreshments if you can find the staff. They tend to spend time in staff carriage away from customer on my journey.
@@Jyetravels Thanks. Might need to take some of our own provisions!
So Shameful that it's only 2 carriages now compared to how big it used to be way back when!! It used to come with a lounge car, restaurant car and a first class style carriage with seats more spaced out and roomy !! Such a sad and disappointing train now !!!! And you used to be able to get on anywhere at any station it passed and pay upon boarding without the need of a pre booked ticket as they had an extra carriage for seating !! Used to once be a glorious fun train now it's boring and yucky !!!!
If you're going to do flight reviews you have to avail yourself of the food and drinks on board. Otherwise it's not a flight review. Is it.
@@karlp8484 thanks for the input. Will definitely improve next time!
That was a great vlog. I used to live in Toowoomba when I was in the army. I always wondered what it would be like travelling down the Toowoomba Range via train. Now I know! Very picturesque, affordable and quaint. Thanks for this.

I think I was on that xpt bc I went to Melbourne one month ago💀and I saw a v line
I know this route well. Although I today I fly in business class on every trip now. As economy is too cramped for me. I originally started flying virgin in there economy X seats. Before I flew with virgin I used to take the XPT train from Melbourne to Brisbane with a overnight stop in Sydney. But a full 2 day trip vrs 2 and half hours ironically the train plus hotel in Sydney was actually more expensive than the business class fares today!
When I went to Queensland from Melbourne by yous me and my niece had a gd fly up and back by yous and u had good service and I enjoyed it thank you for the fly up and back when we went to Queensland
