Good morning, your videos of excellent technical quality are a great contribution to the Large and Ultra Large format community, please when new videos arrive, many thanks!!!!!
this suks
I watched this again today. I thought sure I could just load it, but I got confused and your video set me straight once again... so thanks again!
why tilt rear standard for near object and tilt front standard for far object ? why not use rear standard for both, I am sure there will be configuration of rear standard that brings both object in focus ?
I use the rear standard to focus without any tilting, then I use the front standard to control the alignment of the focus. I find this easiest, bou can either standard. The part that matters is having the standards aligned so that the planes converge.
Fabulous video! Thanks for the calm, clear voice and instructions. I got the info I needed and more. 😊
What was the name of that particular face tanner unit that you bought on Amazon?
H❤❤
im actualy on school and this tutorial is realy good thank you <3
Thank you so much, this was so simple and easy to understand!
Or is it just the beginning??? This was my staple $’erating income camera 30 yrs ago. Have not touched them since. So happy I still have them & I’m going to get back to BIG film. I forgot how to use this beautiful beast.
Hi, great video- thank you. Question: Do you know how to export the final grade ONLY (with name and login ID) from the gradebook?
I haven't tried that before. If it is available, Canvas should have a tutorial in the "help" section. If it is not available, you can start a feature request. This is how Canvas improves based on faculty input. Please post again if you do find a way.
Hi, love your videos I have a simple question about how to import the film pictures to iphone?
I don't have proper instructions for that yet, except to scan the film. You might try placing them on a light table or against a window to rephotograph them? Some apps allow you to convert from negative to positive too.
super useful - thank you!
thank you for the video! i think i watched it about a year ago, but definitely didnt remember all of the steps for resetting the counter and the arrows on the paper. last time i used this, my range finder (on my crown graphic) was out of order so it took me about 2+ hours to shoot 8 photos. opening the lens wide open, locking the shutter open, focusing on the glass, closing the shutter, setting the shutter speed and aperture, removing the glass, installing the back, taking the photo, then reversing the steps. i shot everything off a tripod and hand metered all of the shots. this ought to be a lot more fun!
All of your videos about the Pentax are so pleasing to watch. I love how you say “this is the end” at the end!
😁
Thanks
"Light meter will not function properly in manual." Erm... yes it does. It's what the light meter is for.
Unfortunately, the meter prism used here does not work properly when the lens is on M, for manual. In that mode, the depth of field preview is engaged. Once you disengage the depth of field preview, the metering will be accurate again.
15 videos later and I find GOLD🏆Thank you!
Anyone have a recommendation for scanning 35mm / 120 film on a v750 pro without film holders?
Thanks a lot!
I'm glad it was useful!
👌 Muchas Gracias !!
Thank you.
I love you. I had to watch four videos explaining camera obscuras before I found this one that actually explains how the light doesn't just make a white dot
Great explanation, thank you!
Hello Thanks for the great video!! Could you tell me if the graflex 4X5 graphic film pack holder would fit any other 4X5 modern view camera, just like a fidelity holder? thanks!
Yes, many modern cameras will take the same style of film adapter! Look for a camera with a "graflok" type back. Those ones allow the removal of the ground glass frame so you can use many different adapters.
Thank you for your video. It's most refreshing. Might I add that architectural, catalog, studio, table top, and food photogs use the Scheimflug principle all day long as well. Excessive F-stops do not always do the job and even counteract the optimal sharpness of the lens. This might be beyond the class lecture and beyond the explanation of the intersection of the 3 planes, but I would be interested if you would explain why the Scheimflug principle works? Thank you for your attention.
looks like a great backpack, also notice the luggs on the waist belt, this would allow you to connect the film holder pouches in a gun holster style on your waist allowing quick access to them.( or filters, an extra lens, etc.).
Awesome! I just scored one of these for my calumet. Wish the cases werent so expensive though. Seems Im going to have to make one somehow
😁 Camera cases are pretty expensive and bulky. Depending on how you use it, you might be able to disassemble and use a smaller case. Opposite of assembly process shown here. ua-cam.com/video/V6eRG6Nthc4/v-deo.html
Thank you could not figure out how to open a camera similar to this one. lol
OMG!! _Finally_ , a clear, concise and _logical_ explanation of what The Scheimpflug principle is and the practical application to large format camera movements. I just invested in my first 4x5 camera and have been a bit confused about how, exactly, to get the images that I want. This is tremendously helpful. The diagrams alone are worth the price of admission! Huge thanks. J
Now THIS is an explanation
Bravo
one tip, for SUPER wide angle lenses, ie 75, 47 & 38 put the standard in the telephoto hole, and push the rear standard to the front (like linhof technika cameras) in this configuration the bed doesn't stick out into the viewing cone of the lens ( linhofs get around this due to a drop bed design, obtaining 30 deg. declination, hence no bed in view), but this camera, like a monorail can move the front and back standards to in effect slide the rail rearwards to clear the lens field of view.
a great video, and LOVE the lf viewfinder touch, the upside down and right to left writing, for the lights out warning, as this is what you actually see through the ground glass, no mirror or prism, so this is how we see the world.
mine didn’t work, i did the exact same things but could only see a very small point of light
If you only see a point of light, your viewing screen may be too close to the pinhole. Try creating more space between and see if that helps.
I wish this would've worked for us. We couldn't see anything but light. 😔😥
Your pinhole may be too large or the viewing screen not positioned correctly. Look at the viewing screen, not through it. Double check that there is a chamber between the lens and the viewing screen.
Can i use baking paper or something else apart from tracing paper?
Yes! You can use any thin material. Thin frosted plastic or glass also works.
Hi, we'd like to collaborate with you. How can we get in touch?
hi there! i have the same camera model and for some reason my film won’t rewind when i press the two buttons. i have battery and the camera is working fine when i look at the viewfinder but unfortunately the shutter button is not working. unsure if the two affect each other but do you have any tips or tricks to solve this?
Sorry I missed your comment. If the shutter is not working, the camera may be stuck between frames and not permit rewind. My suggestion is to use a changing bag or black-out room to open the camera and gently remove the film. Manually wind any loose film back into the cartridge. After that, you will be able to inspect the camera to see what the problem is.
Thanks that what Im looking for

FYI this is not the "only" way to get everything in focus. You could of course use digital manipulation with what's called FOCUS STACKING. While you could replicate the effects of tilts and swings with focus stacking, note that the view camera is limited in that focus is always on a plane. Another limitation of course is that this process is quite convoluted with many variables to change, whereas focus stacking only uses one. This is particularly helpful when the Mars Rover takes pictures for example. Finally in certain cases a small aperture cannot be used. In most cases tilts / swings are also impractical such as with microscope cameras so focus stacking is a real life saver. That being said, I enjoy using a view camera and have only used focus stacking on rare occasions. I just wanted to correct the statement that tilts/swings are the only way to get everything in focus.
Focus stacking is a digital method that stitches together multiple digital images. It can create a pretty convincing illusion, but isn't true focus. It's still good enough for most consumers. It's not as useful for a moving subject or for a large format film camera.
This is such a great video! I've got an issue with my 6x7 & wasn't sure whether it was operator error or a problem with the camera - I think I'm closer to identifying the cause now!
Thank you! I am glad to hear that it helped.
tysm i have only a day for science fair and had no idea to do., imma do this one since its better than nothing😁
wow this is so helpful. thank you
Note that there are two variants re the 6x7 system. (1) The early bodies do not have the mirror lock up feature and switch demonstrated in the video version. (2) The early metering prism had a manual on/off switch which does not shut off after 25 seconds as mentioned in the video. That early design caused a lot of folks to forget that the meter was "on", causing the body battery to drain and die after they put the camera away. Thus, the auto-off function change after a year or so. If shopping for a 6x7, the lack of mirror lock-up is apparent from the missing release button. (Back in the day, Pentax would modify an early 6x7 to add this function for an owner.) The on-off switch looks the same on both versions of the meter, so you can only sort them by giving the meter a test drive.
These are very good tips, especially about the meter shutoff.
Super ❤
Who is that person in the daguerreotype
I'm not sure who he is. Sometimes these old photographs end up sold or thrown away because family members do not find value in keeping them.
@@PhotoTeacherBlog ok thanks
What about losing frames with auto wind some say you can tape a film leader extention??
A portion of each roll of film is dedicated to the loading process, so it should not reduce the number of exposures. But, you could gain a couple more with a leader extension. The only issues would be if the extension came loose, or if the excess length was too bulky to fit into the canister when it rewinds. That's something I've seen with bulk-loaded film.
