The Lemko Republic in Florynka | 1995 Documentary by Krzysztof Krzyzanowski
Aleksander Kuryłło, a Kraków native of Lemko-Rusyn descent from the village of Florynka, years later visited his ancestral village, to seek traces of the activity of his grandfather, Father Vasyl’ Kuryłło, who before WWI was the pastor of the local Greek Catholic parish, and later a Lemko activist. This documentary tells of an important yet forgotten episode of Lemko history, which was the attempt by the Lemkos in 1918-19 to create their own quasi-state, the Rusyn Republic, in the Low Beskid Mountains (Beskid Niski). Father Vasyl’ Kuryłło was one of the main initiators of this idea. How this attempt turned out for the Lemkos and Father Kuryłło is told in this documentary produced in 1995 by Krzysztof Krzyżanowski.
Much thanks to Brian McHugh in assisting with the subtitles for this video.

The National Traumas of the Rusyns
Переглядів 3,6 тис.11 місяців тому
The Rusyn, forged in valleys and mountain peaks of the Carpathians far away from the reach of the nations around them. At least that is how things once were. An unfortunate reality is that few other peoples in the last 150 years have gone through as many eras of horror as the Carpatho-Rusyns. These, what we can call national traumas, have molded our people’s culture and politics. Often not for ...

Nova Lemkovyna - A Brief Overview

Embedded Stasis Obligations
Переглядів 340Рік тому
The model to best interpret the current framework of Rusyn action is in something called Embedded Stasis Obligations (ESO). The basis of this thesis is that the current structures of Rusyn organizations have a high amount of built-in incentives and obligations to remain in perpetual stagnation. This is true from both a leadership standpoint and at the level of organizational goals.

I don't think they were loyal to the Austrian Crown. Good grief. The Hapsburgs had been at war with Russia since the Holy Roman Empire invented the Pope and wanted to consolidate the church. Who'd ya think those wars were against?

Fantastic, well done to you! Fino čuc naš jazik okolo šveta! Mojo famalija peišli do Australiju dze ja peršu generacija "skippy" 😅. Mi trebame sklodzic zavjednak da Rusija i Ukrajina prestanu jih politiku is našo ljudzoh zato i teras u pojsku počinaju Rusnacom davac problemi isto. U Serbiju/Horvackej ši about terms Četnik či Ustašan i njič druhe. Dobre že u Vojvadinu nas ohabju a i tam prihodzi vreme dze jest menej od našoh každi rok. Blasted politics! The only thing with your video that hurts my ears is the chosen dialect to pronounce "teacher". You say you were taught by a teacher from Serbia, but if that's the case you'd say U-CHI-TEJ and not U-CHI-TEL... But hej, that's how we pronounce it in vojvodina, where apparently we are considered by historians as slovonik and not Rusyn 😮‍💨... Plenty of us here that are willing to help others learn. I'm happy to help, just don't like being suppressed by pro Russian, pro Ukraine historians telling us we never existed, yet here we are, globally!! 🎉🥳

Now I know why my family came directly to Pittsburgh PA, and then traveled all the Rustbelt Cities looking for prosperity (although it already made sense) after being rescued by the Soviets and sent to Amerika. We blended so much into both Polish and Ukrainian communities out here in the Diaspora and we were raised as Poles (but Górali Highlanders too, white pants and dancing and all) it was always confusing and a lot of my friends who were raised to live and speak Polish are actually Carpatho-Rusyns from Czerwone Rus (Red Ruthenia). These never got to be Nations and we are almost Erased, I appreciate the work you do to tell us all this. We thought we were forgotten by all. 💙🤍♥️ from Chicago🇸🇰🇵🇱

I would only argue that after the defeat of Nazi Germany OUN-B and its military wing the UPA went through a dramatic change and abandoned all their fascistic ideas and goals and became pro-democratic. They even fought together with the AK against the USSR with the aid of the CIA and MI6.

You are not sure how dangerous that is. Ukrainians or even Poles are paranoid, rediculous paranoid. And when far nacionalism rules, ethnicities are the first to suffer because hysterical nacionalists can be very danger and the central authorities when afraid of them, they do nothing.

My family is from the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in Poland. My Y-DNA is E-V13 which comes from the Balkans. My DNA tests results show Romanian, Croatian, Serbian, some Bulgarian, and Bosnian. Along with that, My DNA shows relations to Kievan Rus and my Paternal Grandmother had a Ukranian parent. The theory does seem to make sense especially with old town records speaking of the Vlach pastoralists.

from this video I did not understand why I should stop to call myself Lemko, even if my roots are rather from the northeast Slovakia, Presov region, with some Polish-Lemko admixture. i just saw a video telling it is a nonsense, but no real explanation. And please do not forget that the people that identify as Lemkos and consider themselves as a part of Ukrainians are doing it just with a purpose of making a propaganda.Their meaning of life is not to be necessarily an opposite of you. There are different feelings, attitude towards the heritage, so people choose their way.I do not subscribe to the Rusyn ethnicity in Slovakia, as its leader are very often trying to preserve only the folkloric level of the culture, not creating a real nationhood, they tend to be loyal to Slovakia and to not bother that much about the slovakization, while they should be.
