1969 Gottlieb Target Pool: The story about this game and the reason I had 4 of them.
This game is a non stop scoring madness with plenty of fast moving ball action because of its 27 stand up targets and playfield design layout. It is very fun to play without a doubt, especially chasing the yellow moving arrows for 300 points on the sides and front bull eye targets located right smack in front of the player on the playfield. For sure is one of the most player friendly games Gottlieb made in 1969 with it's larger longer stretched out ball return flipper lanes, always giving a player a easy chance at winning multiple free replays by score or special, but never letting a player get bored. You got to love the location of the specials on this game too. Two of the four specials are in the larger longer ball return flipper lanes which brings the ball directly back to the flippers again for a super action or skilled ball shot back up into the playfield.
The best feature on this game is having side kickers on the top section of the playfield and also the lower section. The top playfield sling shot kickers provide a wild type of ball action knocking out many of the numbered pool ball targets and allowing a players ball back up into the top arch by(kicker action) where the number 6,7 and 8 ball can be made. The game 2001 by Gottlieb also has the sling shot kickers on the top and bottom of the playfield, but there are not many more games with this type of playfield lay out design.
The artwork is colorful and very nice to look at with a kind of 3D image of the pool table, ping pong table and swimming pool at this resort type/swim club atmosphere theme on the back glass. Of course the 15 pool balls in the rack is the main attraction when lit up and adds a nice touch to the back glass.
I remember always playing Target Pool on the boardwalk at the New Jersey shore as a first pick out of a choice of many pinball machines there because I could almost always win some free games allowing me to stretch my pinball pocket money which wasn't much back then in the late 1960's.
I have a excellent original condition Target Pool(my 4th one i owned)in my collection today and still it is one of my favorite games to play ! I am a avid pool player since 1965 (still play today) and always favor the pool themed pinball games because of this reason, but you don't have to be a pool player to love this great player!

1965 Gottlieb Buckaroo: My story about this Great Player!

Here’s a wedge head that is extremely popular and is a must for any collectors who seeks Gottlieb wedge heads. Tough game to beat and not so player friendly. I remember playing this game on location back in the 1960’s and took a lot of quarters from me without giving back many replays. Good money maker for vendors because as a player the game would almost always get you close to beating it for ...

This game is simple to understand the rules and very player friendly. Having the two kick out holes toss the ball back into the pop bumper area is a nice treat and i like the fact that the ball does stay up in the pop bumper area longer than most wedge head games almost always hitting red /white stand up targets J ,K, 4 OR 5. The spin action on the back glass is so cool and is even better when ...

Here in this video is another way to straighten out warped plastic's. I am using two pieces of plexiglass and it worked out ok. A safer way would be to use two pieces of real glass to avoid any chances of removable of any of the ink coloring on the plastic. these two plastic are from a sling shot /kicker and a plastic above the goggle hole. Gottlieb didn't design many wedge heads with the kickers/slingshots on the lower and upper sections of the playfield. 2001 is another with the lower/upper kickers on the playfield and is a great player being it was the first EM game with the drop targets and 20 of them! Loved watching you play. We had this game at the bowling alley. We played it a lot because we could beat it for the free games. We were young kids and made up names for each ball number. Like Fred, Bird Bottom Sr., his son Chirp Jr., Hooty Al and others. Thanks for bringing back the memories. You inspire me to play my games. For some reason the Slick Chick could change it's name to the rat hole express. Getting to play about a ball and a half per game now. Used to beat it all the time. Now I play Corral the most now, truely love the game. Thanks for your memories and mine. keep up the good work. Tim D

    I played the free ball version named Mini Pool in NYS back in the '70's. One of my favorite games but it took awhile to develop my pinball skills on it. I could play for hours on one game with add-a-ball. I always wondered about Target Pool and only saw it once in PA and did not do well on it in the first 10 minutes. Free game states really bring me down with much lower scores. But since tournament days started everybody is like 3 balls to start the game! Games like this still need 5 balls to play.

      Every game in my collection always gets the "royal treatment" and the "icing on the cake" for me after the restoration is completed is installing NOS (new old stock) #455 GE brand bulbs in the title of the game and other sections of the back glass like the star on a1964 Gottlieb North Star, the diamond necklace on the guy on my 1967 Gottlieb King of Diamonds and other places too on other games in my collection. I just love my EM's games having this kind of attraction mode and for sure the sweet sounds of the twinkle the bulbs sound out is amazingly heavenly. Sometimes I just light up the games and not play them, so I can listen to the #455 GE original (NOS) bulbs doing their thing! My games have been plugged in for 25 years and only unplug them if I am going to move them in the line up. I just turn on the switch and boom they light up when I want them to. Thank you for your videos. I have a couple 2" flipper pins that came with 2 rubbers on each flipper. Do you ever do this, what is preferred?

    • @viccamppinball
      @viccamppinball 5 днів тому

      I have many of my games with (2) rubbers rings on each flipper, but not all of my games because each game has it's own unique design build from the factory that might not need the double rubbers on their flippers. What I do is, I install the (2) rubber rings on the flippers(after I tested with (1) rubber ring) on a game and then test play a game a many times and try to get a feel (in my head/mind with a lot of concentration and observation) on how much better of a hit/power I get with ball making contact with the rubber rings on the flippers. Testing and really concentrating/observing can[t hurt to see if your get the best playability out of your game after all the hard work that went into the machine during its repair/restoration. It's might be hard to detect, but playing many test games you might somehow say to yourself, this game gets a better hit with the (2) rubbers on each the flipper. I know, it sounds a little too much or an over kill, but it sure is always rewarding to fine tune your games to point that not a lot of restoration specialist or collectors will not take the time to do. Wow, Vic! That BaB machine looks amazing. I own one myself now (after having another one in the late 70's when I was a kid). Mine has a lot of plays on it, and I am working through it trying to restore it over the next year or two. May I ask how the playfield paint looks so good on that one in the video? Is it possible to have that repainted, or is that one just an absolute gem? Mine is not terrible, but lots of ball swirls and other playfield imperfections I would like to improve if possible. Love it. I had this game in my house when I was a kid in the late 70's. Not sure how my old man was able to afford it, but it was a great Christmas that year. Anyway, fast forward 40+ years and that BaB machine is long gone, but I found another one and flew to Pittsburg to pick it up and drive it all the way back home 900 miles away. My "new" Bank a Ball is just as fun as it was when I was 10. It needs lots of TLC and I am trying to learn how to work on it to fix things and do restoration items that need attention. I am not too good at any of that, as I have no experience. I would love to find someone to help me work on it. If not, any and all tips about how I slowly learn to take care of this machine and fully restore it over time are much appreciated. Thank you for posting this video.

    Such a fun game Vic Camp. I think i enjoyed this game just as much if not more than king of diamonds. Skill pool on my last trip to your amazing collection got the most plays out of me followed by king of Diamonds. Hard game to find here in Canada. Even harder to find in decent shape. Your sample plays better than new. Keep up the good work

Skill Pool is for sure a fun and challenging player that keeps you wanting to play another game. It is also very player friendly for a 1963 EM two inch flipper game. It is always good to hear from you. Have a Happy Healthy New Year. Talk to you soon....

    Hello Vic, the best wishes, goodluck and a healthy 2025. Nice seeing your early days about pinball. Here a litlle New years story on mine first Pinball. As a 12 year young kid I went many times on my bicycle, up and down OrangeTree street ( Oranjeboomstraat) pronounced in Dutch, as I am from my home town Harbor City Rotterdam. By then I already looking/visting a specialy cafetaria's for Pinball playing true Ro/Town. By coincidence (as such exist) I saw at this OrangeTree street a warehouse, rather looking like a normal house with a double door so a small truck could get in. A small window at that double door got my attention because (first I thought am I hallucinating ??) you have to consider that Pinball was not so common/ normal in those days as in The United States. Anyhow by peeking true that small window I was almost blowing out of my socks because there where rather in a chaotic kris/kros position some EM Pinball Machines with flickering lights at sight. I realy felt blessed and most have starred true that small window for maybe half an hour. The overside neighbors living on secondfloor looked a bit suspicious at me which to me did not matter in the good sense. No doorbell on the warehouse or reaction when knocking on the door, however I saw a handwritten telephone number which I stamped in my brains because I wanted to contact for sure..😊I will continue the story next week about how I bought my Pinball at this place. Otherwise the story becomes maybe to long. Sincerely Dutch pinball Cornelis , Greets The Netherlands

    Hey Vic is your old pal Steve who stopped over several times myself and with "Joe Caddy" Living a much different life these days without pinball and had a lot of growing up to do and approaching 27 years old now but still pop in from time to time here on UA-cam to make sure you are doing alright as my last foot in the door with pinball. Glad to see you are still doing good Will never forget that one time I must have still been a teenager as the last remainder of a pinball party, sitting with just you and your son under just the lights of the wedgeheads and the ticking sounds of the flashing bulbs and you giving some great life lessons to us at the tail end of a good day, one of those magical moments in life and will stick with me. Must have sat there for an hour and just talked about some really meaningful stuff My Fun Park still sits in my living room as my last pinball machine in the house. Hasn't run in years but maybe one day I will get the bug again

      Hi Steve, It's good to hear from you. I was wondering what you were up to these days. I too remember when you were at my pinball party about 10 plus years ago when you got bit by the pinball bug and went all out in this great hobby to the extent of opening a really nice ARCADE in P.A. Glad to hear your Gottlieb Fun Park wedge head is sitting in your living room. What ever happened to the Bally Dixieland 6 card Bingo Pinball Machine you bought at the York Show? Do you still have it? If not, who has that Dixieland at the present time? Thanks for dropping by and leaving such a nice comment and reminding me of the great times we had at all our New Jersey pinball party's and gathering in the past. Stop back in soon. After hearing from you I now got to give your good friend and mine "Joe Caddy" a call.

      @@viccamppinballThanks for the kind words. I will have to stop by again sometime if you have a party. I know the Dixieland bingo is no longer with me but through all the crazy process of off loading a lot of stuff, I can't remember where it went and I don't have any specific records on who it went to. I think it was just a cash in hand transaction several years ago. Sorry. I know you really liked it and if I still had it I would just give it to you for free as I only paid $75.

  • @limegreenlunatic
    @limegreenlunatic 23 дні тому

    could you explain the 2 player version.. why does the player card score go above 21??

    • @viccamppinball
      @viccamppinball 23 дні тому

      At the start of the game the player card score is zero. The object of the game is to get Black Jack or 21, just like the real game of Black Jack is played in a casino. The player card score can and will go over 21 during game play since it is hard for the player to control and get the ball to do what he wants during his time playing the game...with that being said, the player card score does go over 21 just like a player in a casino will go over 21 when he asks the dealer to give them a hit to try to make 21 during his time at the Black Jack table. Note: When the player goes over 21 during the game.

    • @limegreenlunatic
      @limegreenlunatic 23 дні тому

      @ I understand this but the player card score would never reset between balls and we would get it up in the 90’s im pretty sure the machine is just broken

    • @viccamppinball
      @viccamppinball 23 дні тому

      The player card score reels only reset back to (00) when the player goes over 99 on the card score reels. The other time the player card score will reset is when the player card score goes over 21 and the ball gate opens on the right side out and the ball then gets returned to the shooter lane, which the player gets to shoot the ball over again. If your game isn't working like this...then you may have an issue. Note: There is a switch at the very top of the arch that when the ball rolls over this switch it resets the player card score reels back to zero zero.

    In Hot Springs, Ar, Win Rockefeller came to Arkansas and became governor in 1969. One of the first thing he did was outlaw the bingo machines. I was like you, addicted to them. The silver sails machines I could control the best. I scored a lot of five in a lines on them. At Sim's Cigar Store there was one where if you held the blue button in when you put the nichol in, it would jump to six odds instead of staying at four. Any four in a row scored scored twenty games instead of sixteen. So we cashed out for a dollar and played pool and drank soda and ate cheese crackers. They never did fix the machine. I guess they could not. That was so much fun. The extra games you won made it a whole lot easier to win the dollar. Then got another five nichols to play. I own a silver sales bingo now. But not as much fun to play without the pay out. After that they put flipper machines like Quick Draw in the stores. It was never as much fun after that!

      Hi Ward,, I guess I can pick out any machine from my line up (since all were basically restored the same way) and explain what I have done to the machine and how many hours etc. Have you seen my Super Score restoration videos on my channel? If not, maybe take a look at all of them and see if they might be helpful in any way. Just enter in the you tube search box (vic camp pinball Super Score and all the videos should appear) You have 4 great Gottlieb EM's in your collection and once they are restored for sure the enjoyment will begin for you. I've had an Ice Revue and Card Whiz and know how good of a player are both of them are. I also played Rack a Ball and Kings and Queens many times at other peoples collections and know these 2 wedge heads are fantastic to own too. It good to hear you are restoring these Gottlieb EM's and that once they are restored completely they will be around for many years to come.
