it might be hard to get, but i have heard really great things about the goodINKpressions notebooks that feature tomoe river paper (68gsm). do you have an opinion on that and/or would you consider making a video on it? i’m very new to fountain pens, my first one hasn’t even arrived yet, and i’m looking up lots of videos on them :]

Welcome to the world of fountain pens! What did you decide to go with for your first pen? I have not used a goodINKpreasions notebook but I found them on Etsy. They have good prices for Tomoe River Paper so I can definitely look into that for a video! I would also recommend the fountain pen subreddit as well if you haven’t been there already: www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/s/JKtG1qCxIM Lots of experts and lots of reviews on inks and pens. I hope you enjoy your pen!

Liv, Of course, I should have watched this episode first, but as circumstances dictated, the - second was the first 🙄. However, not to worry. The Twone booklets are indeed a bargain for the fiscal outlay; admittedly, they are a little small for my taste - I would only use this size for occasional days out, & where note taking would be at a minimum. At just over one Dollar (US) it is impossible to go wrong, & again, the fact they are suitable enough quality for (my) beloved fountain pens - other than pencils, I write/draw with nothing else; I was never happy with gel or biros/rollerballs - & perhaps that's due to my being left handed (otherwise my handwriting resembles a trainwreck !); thankfully, I am an underwriter, vis-a-vis parallel or overwriter (hook hand), so the control is still absolutely mine. If I may make an observation or two - you do not seem to demonstrate your own handwriting on camera, & sililarly, nor do you employ cursive; I am aware that a number of States across the US no longer teach children to write in cursive - it is all print, which I do find a shame. Perhaps it is the new cultural imperative... ? I look forward to your next instlament of, 'Does It Bleed', Best, Andrew.

Thank you for another comment! I appreciate you watching. I agree, these are on the small side but I enjoy using them for affirmations and gratitude. I have excluded video of me writing in an effort to keep the video short, but I will experiment with the next one and see how it goes! I do write in cursive - it feels only natural with fountain pens! However, you are right: I was briefly taught cursive in elementary school and then was never required to use it again. So I taught myself again a few years ago when I got into fountain pens. It’s come a long way but it’s still mostly illegible!

Greetings, Liv, In regard to those smaller notebooks, I imagine they are indeed perfect for notelets to friends & family. In regard to Cursive handwriting, yes, fountain pens were made for such script -block capitals are so ugly - unless you're making an 'Out Of Order' sign 😉. I am sure your handwritten pages are perfectly legible - but of course, there should be no compulsion for you to write in front of the camera if it makes you feel uncomfortable; that said, I would hope you at least give it a go - it's always good to try something different, hey. I supppose I can count myself fortunate in that when I started school - it's all I ever really knew; foutain pens & pencils were all that was provided; we learnt cursive with a pencil initially, then began with a cheap, state-funded (Bic) cartridge fountain pen; the transition between lead & ink is not as wide as you might imagine - it certainly slowed down my handwriting - & in doing so, made my scribble more than legible; thereafter, it was merely a matter of practice. Enjoy the remainder of your day ! Andrew.

Good day, Liv. It is clear, these notebooks are certainly worth the money - more significantly because they are fountain pen friendly. I reside in the UK, & as yet, this particular brand is unavailable here (unless they're packaged under a different trade name); incidentally, where did you purchase them ? Mine own preference for any notebook is that they are unlined - dotted, grid or plain would be my go-to (lined books are more redolent of schooldays). Of course, the retailer from whom you purchased that four pack may well sell internationally. Succinct overview - thank you ! Best, Andrew.

Hello Andrew, Thank you for watching and commenting! I purchased these from Amazon here: a.co/d/aqk4iQJ I’m not sure if they ship to the UK though. I did find a number of other similar brands like this one: a.co/d/iArMlR2 So you might try to search for hardcover unlined craft cover notebooks and see what pops up. Good luck!

Hello again, Liv, Apologies for the delayed response, but work has prevailed. In fact, those notebooks are accessible from the US (Amazon) site, & are winging their way to me here in the UK as I type; nothing, it seems can escape the all-encompassing realm of Amazon worldwide distribution !! I trust you're enjoying a pleasant afternoon, Kind regards, Andrew

The stoic philosophy way of looking at things that you cannot control is something I've been thinking about a lot lately while going through a turmoil I cannot (externally) control. I read a book from Seneca a few years ago and that really resonated with me. Unfortunately putting this way of thinking into practice is much harder to do than to say. But just being aware of the idea of what one can and cannot control helps my thoughts from spiraling. And when they do spiral, because sometimes it's very automatic, it helps me real them back. Thank you for this video. It was a nice way to spend a Saturday morning.

Thank you for taking time to comment and for spending some time with me today! I agree, application of the philosophy is not easy but it helps when I remind myself that it’s a practice- I’m always getting better at it. And yes, awareness is crucial. It’s exhausting at times and it’s hard but I do think it’s worth it. I hope the turmoils turn to peace for you!

Your end of your / start of year sounds like it has been a lot. Before finding hobonichi planners I always had planners with the months embedded between the weeks and because it's something that has always been like this, I never questioned it. The layout might also be the reason I never used them. I always planned with only the weekly layouts. But now that they are all together I've found the monthly planner in me. You have a good point that they are so much easier to use when they are together. I can completely relate to the feeling of wanting to toss a planner and start a new when things get tough. Hope the remaining of the spring is a bit easier.

I have since purchased some tabs and that pretty much solves my problem. It might help you if you ever stray from hobonichi again! I used the weeks for the previous two years and loved them. Thank you for your kind words, I too hope spring brings some relief

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I used the Commit 30 fitness planner last year and for 2024 to monitor my health and wellness. I too have hypothyroidism but was diagnosed with kidney disease and diverticulitis this past year and found the book so helpful to log all what I eat. You might look into that planner too! Here's to a healthy 2024!!
