FM Transmitter How To Build Circuit DIY Homemade. Long range home made transmitter radio station.
How to build an FM transmitter circuit. A complete build from beginning to end including all parts, components and tools needed. FM radio station transmitter for home use. Have your friends and family hear you on the radio with this great affordable easy to build transmitter. If you don't have a printed circuit board and want to know how to make a fm transmitter on breadboard then this circuit can work for you. Even if you are just interested in amateur radio or HAM radio as it's known this is a great way to learn about transmitters.
#fmtransmitter #fmradio #electronics #electroniccircuits
If you want to build your own home FM radio station then this is the right circuit. With a good signal range and strength and clear audio. This is a great DIY FM transmitter for lovers of electronic kits and amateur radio. It might not be the best fm transmitter ever made but it is cheap and lots of fun. If you are studying electronics or just for fun you want to know how to make a fm transmitter then is a fun way to learn. One of the reasons to want to know how to make an fm transmitter is to try hearing your own voice on the radio and having friends and family at your house hear you as you present on radio. fm transmitter static is also something this transmitter can overcome because of it's substantially better range than a normal car FM transmitter. In fact apart from this being a mono transmitter it is probably the best car fm transmitter you can make. While it's not intended as professional wireless fm transmitter for car use it is certainly a more powerful and fun way to go. If you want to know how to test an fm transmitter the range is about the easiest test and this circuit will give you way more range than an MP3 transmitter for your car. If are not worried about the bluetooth aspect and want just wireless fm transmitter that is cheap and fun. Build fm transmitter with the basic components with no complicated circuit. Even though this is low power it's actually a long range fm transmitter when you extend the antenna. With the right antenna this circuit can reach a mile in open space like a farm or event grounds. The cool thing is that this is not big and actually a mini fm transmitter that can be used almost anywhere. The fm transmitter antenna is important as far as range goes. If you use the right fm transmitter antenna you can get more range out of this low power transmitter than a higher power fm transmitter. Some talk about the gold whole house fm transmitter antenna length which is actually simply the wavelength calculate from the FM frequency. This diy fm transmitter antenna is from a radio controlled toy but you can use a more sophisticated antenna.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro 2 години тому

      Hi. You will need either software that can mix music or at least to audio players like two cell phone to be your music source. Then you need to be able to record the radio link so you will need an audio recorder like Audacity. It can be tricky to wire it all up. One of the best ways to do it is to use what you would put together for an audio streaming station. A lot of it is free like Winamp, Radio Dj Software and Virtual cables but you might need some help to set it all up. It can get a bit tricky so it helps to have someone who knows their way around audio software setups. Try watching a few of my streaming radio videos. Those can help you get set up with something similar to a radio studio. Then you will need to edit it all down to a nice short demo with software like Audacity. I have a "early access" radio presenter course starting soon that might help you on your journey. Best of luck. Cheers.

    Could you make a circuit which transmits a video signal and also a receiver? I'm really interested in this field because of FPV and robotics applications but I'm more experienced in programming than in circuit design and signals. Left a sub here for you :)

    • @inspiresoundpro

      I like the idea of a video transmitter too. It is much more complicated though because the signal needs a multiplexer that makes it a lot more difficult. I will keep it in mind for the future but I will have to see how to make a bit more basic. Thanks for the sub :) and thanks for your comment .Cheers.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro 29 днів тому

      It depends on your country's laws. Many countries allow low power transmitters like iPhone transmitters and car FM transmitters but like I said it depends on your country. Also the range and power output also varies from country to country. In the USA for example according to Google " Unlicensed operation on the AM and FM radio broadcast bands is permitted for some extremely low powered devices covered under Part 15 of the FCC's rules. On FM frequencies, these devices are limited to an effective service range of approximately 200 feet (61 meters)." That would work for most peoples houses. But be sure to find out what the laws allow in your country.

    I own a dominator. The REAL one from Norwalk electronics. Sadly they are out of business ! We got about the last one I think they had built themselves Here is the story they farmed out production to a company that turned around and sold it to a China outfit they make one now called the terminator. It’s junk ! Lightly made and not nearly as durable as the original from Norwalk ! I think the last I heard years ago they were trying to sue the outfit that sold the specs to the Chinese manufacturer. Being a ham those lightning arrestors do not always do there job we just shut down and DC the coax from the transmitter same with my ham rigs only connected when in use. I have made a spark gap one for a guy with a AM 🏴‍☠️station he of course uses his whole tower as a antenna it sits on insulators the guys are insulated too . He has all tube type stuff it’s pretty much bulletproof to that problem. I have also found along with a towers lightning rod and grounding system those stainless steel puff balls called static eliminator’s do a LOT to bleed off a impending strike . If you want to build a 1/4 wave FM ground plane it’s very easy from copper tubing and PVC pipe that was our first antenna and it’s still up there 15 years later as a back up simple and to make with good soldering skills .

      Sad to hear about Norwalk. The original Dominator was fantastic. Yeah I love making antennas out of all sorts of bits and pieces. The whole opening premise of this video is WRONG. One does not increase transmit power by adding or stacking antenna, so misguided. Antenna arrays only serve to concentrate the power you are producing in direction or horizontal plane. Respectfully, Dennis KV4WM

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Місяць тому

      Hi.Thanks for your comment. While I enjoy the input from viewers you might want to tone down on the "misguided" and everything "wrong" vibe. This is not a university channel for antenna studies. It is a channel for mostly newcomers to radio. While your comment is technically correct, it misses the point that the effective radiated power is in effect amplified because of the concentration of the signal along a horizontal plane resulting in a stronger signal in the broadcast footprint. So please try take a deep breath and try be a bit less attacking in your comments. Viewers can learn a lot from the comments in the videos but the added info doesn't need to be aggressive. And by ending off with "respectfully" you are just showing that you are in fact being disrespectful.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro Місяць тому

      Hi. Yeah sure. It all comes down to the half and quarter wavelength at 99.7 Mhz. Using the online calculator the quarter wavelength is 75.174 cm and half wave length is 150.348 cm. So the distance between the two antennas is 150.348 cm measured from top of the lower antenna radial and the bottom of the antenna radial above it. The measurements on the cables will be multiples of the half wave and quarter wavelength. I hope the makes sense. Cheers.

      No with a lightning arrestor all the electrical discharge goes straight into the ground if it is installed correctly. If you are still getting damage to equipment after stalling a lightning arrestor then you should check if the installation has been done correctly.

    • @mavic6155

      @@inspiresoundpro Arrestors only work when the voltage becomes above a certain threshold level, so that normal (wanted) operational signals do not trigger the arrestor. Equipment will therefore face a higher voltage, although for a very short period. If an electrical discharge from i.e. the center conductor goes straight into the ground, something is wrong. The path to earth for a center conductor has to be triggered first.

    Actually antennas don't make or amplify power. They can direct it where it needs to go. When we stack the dipoles on top of each other as this video shows, it forces more signal outward and less straight up and straight down. Now in most cases the station doesn't want to radiate straight up, and probably not straight down. In most cases the antenna is out in rural areas. Now they don't want the signal to pass over a close by town, especially if its one they are licensed to cover. So, they may have a bit of down tilt or steer as the broadcast engineer mentioned in his comment. I proved one day that this is really a thing. I am s ham radio operator. I maintain one of the 146.88 MHz repeater in town. We had taken our four element antenna array down for repair and was temporarily using a 5/8 wave antenna. The 5/8 wave antenna could receive an operator about say 10 miles away perfectly. He was transmitting with about 2 watts on a hand-held. There was another operator about 50 miles NE of us on the interstate highway running about 25 watts into his 5/8 wave antenna. The repeater couldn't hear him well at all, but when I switched over to the four element 6 dBd array antenna then the mobile operator came in full noise quieting and we couldn't pickup the guy on the HT anymore. By the way we were standing 750' above the ground while conducting this experiment. For my purpose I need an antenna with both characteristics. One that can cover 50-60 miles out and at the same time, cover the guys in town too. So I'm trying a multi receiver concept. One receiver in town, and two out in high places on the edges of town.

    You mentioned nothing about drift. With such a simple LC oscillator and non temperature compensated components, and no drift compensation like a phase-locked-loop, there will be both short term and long term drift. Last thing a beginner needs is having to re-tune the receiver (or transmitter) every so often and wonder what is wrong. So bottom line, not a great circuit.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for your comment. It really helps beginners to see this kind of information shared. You are right this circuit will drift and a PLL circuit is better. That said I completely disagree that this is not a great circuit. This circuit was not intended to be broadcast quality or anything close to it. This circuit is a cheap easy fun circuit to build that gives learners an Immediate experience with FM circuits. In fact one of the best ways to learn about drift is to experience it. This is a learning circuit and it's a great one at that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's of great benefit to the viewers. Cheers.

    Personally I would use times microwave lmr400. Although rg213 is a standard in many places. It predominantly was used by the United States military, due to its double silver shield. It does have less than rg58, but also it's considerably heavier. And if you're stringing cables up a few hundred feet on a tower. Wait becomes a concern, also there is more LMR 400 in LMR 400 made every year than rg213. And is also generally available easily on the internet. You get the power handling and lost characteristics of essentially half inch heliax, without the weight and complexity., there's also LMR 240, which is a RG58 roughly sized coax that has about the same loss Factor as rg213.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for your input on the cables. Always appreciated. I have had a few people talk about Lmr cables. They are great and solve a lot of problems. In many cases though the cost for small operators is not worth it. For a small community radio station simply turning up the transmitter power fixes any losses and the installation is simple enough with most setups being less than a thousand watts. Many as low as 100 watts. So they don't really see the value in it. On big professional set ups yeah its almost a no brainer. But for a station using a 250 watt transmitter into a two stack antenna set up 30 meters up needing only an erp of 200 watts its not even on their list to have LMR cables. But it's always good for new people to learn about the cable options. Cheers :)

    30 year plus veteran broadcast engineer here, let me see your breakdown of these antennas is quite good. This video actually serves two purposes one to explain in layman's terms what's going to happen. And also the technicians that get too deep into the engineering., I have seen some antenna Rays with as many as 16 circular polarized dipoles stock at one wavelength apart, taking up most of a 400 ft tower. All being fed using Ridgid cable. I've also made them with rg59 coat hangers and PVC pipe. The only limiting factor is rg59 can only withstand about 100 watts. In that case we would use rg11, which can handle approximately 500 to 1000 watts. Usually we design each dipole to handle 50% of the total power will be feeding into the system even if it's a four-way system, will still design them to take usually around 400 watts each. I've also seen systems, where you have four dipoles on the tower. The cables on them are all long enough to reach the ground. And then all of the same length. Each dipole is connected to the output of a separate power amplifier, the inputs to the power amplifier are generated by a divider Network after the exciter. Essentially the phase splitting and alignment, is done at the input of the amplifiers has the amplifiers do not add significant phase shift. This can't be said for all amplifiers. But in most cases the modern solid state ones can do this. It's actually possible to obtain 100,000 watts effective radiator power using only 10kw of amplifier. Each dipole, is built into 50 ohm antenna. All the cables are exactly the same length of 50 ohm coax. And yes this uses hundreds of feet of coax to do this. You must have the same length at the Top Antenna as at the bottom antenna then all the cables are ran back to the transmitter. Where you would have the output of 10 seperate power amplifiers. Each power amplifier feeds one antenna.. the input of each amplifier, comes from a power divider network. Essentially the same thing you're building for the antennas with coax, you build a smaller version that stays down with the amplifier. The beauty of the system is that it's easy to install you just roll up the excess coax and cable tie it to the tower. Once you have all the antennas spaced on the tower and everything is ready to go. With the multiplied gain of 10 dipole antennas, we're being effective radiated power of 100,000 watts. The true beauty in the system. Is that should you decide you want a small amount of beam tilt, either up or down it's going to be accomplished by just changing the length of the coax feeding the power amplifier to that antenna. And up or down beam till is easily added

      Wow it's always great to hear about the big installations and to hear from broadcast industry professionals. So thanks for your input. I unfortunately never got work on such big set ups. It's even difficult to comprehend that kind of power and all the issues that go with it. In most of my set ups if it went wrong the transmitter would go into safe mode until you fix the problem with no real consequences but at your power levels it's a whole different ball game. The cost as well in a completely different league. I think the majority of my viewers will never encounter set ups like you have worked on so always interesting to get some input about it. Thanks for you nice compliment. I do try my best to make my videos as accurate as possible while making them as understandable for everyone as possible. @inspiresoundpro just because the power levels go up, the system only gets more complex due to the size of the components used. However there are several of these antenna systems that are described using multiple amplifiers and multiple dipoles, sold by a company out of Latin america. It's actually a very ingenious system as you don't have to have crazy Tower mounted power dividers. They use basic diapers made of aluminum tubing with a plastic Center insulator. I believe they feed them with LMR 600. The number of feet per antenna Escapes Me Right now, but the system is somewhat built to order so that they can optimize the cable length however all cables are of equal length. And then it uses a stack of multiple 1 KW power amplifiers. Most modern FM transmitters even from the cheap ones sold on Amazon up to the biggest commercial units all have powerful back at SWR protection. As the broadcasting industry we have issues with our basis. It could be anything from a lightning strike, to birds deciding to building a nest on the feed point. And he has to be our becomes unstable. Or in one case there was a gasket missing on the feed line, and the entire feed line filled with water. I had drill 1/8 inch hole at the lowest point in the system and had water pouring out, also being pushed out by the nitrogen gas we use to pressurize the cable. However the nitrogen have been turned off for several weeks, during the winter time when we had heavy rain and storms. So the cables ended up filling up with water. The only difference in low-power to high power are physically the size of the components their power consumption when you plug them in, and the height of the tower you need to get the antennas away from human beings to not cause problems. Also your harmonic filters need to be very robust and have sharp cut off. So that you don't cause serious interference. Your basic Broadband low pass filter that cuts off at 110 MHz is woefully inadequate. I would highly suggest anyone attempting to build their own transmitter or Exciter board. Do some research into the design of these filters. The fixed capacitor values, could be reduced slightly and then parallel with a adjustable trimmer capacitor. Thereby allowing the operator to tune out and know the second and third harmonic. As the current FCC standard requires your third harmonic to be 60 DB lower than your main carrier, it is hard to achieve that using a Broadband filter circuit tuned for just below the aviation band. Normally I would have a 5 or 6 Pole low pass filter mounted in a small chassis box on the Exciter, then good coax between the chassis box filter and the input of the FM amplifier. In some cases should have been a particularly dirty radio system with a lot of harmonic issues we would add an interstage filter you clean up the output of the Exciter feeding into the intermediate power amplifier. We found out by doing this we actually gained about 10% more output power then before, as we were cleaning up the signal before it went into the main power amplifier and was not as wide, therefore the amplifiers gain was all focused on one frequency rather than a broadband signal along with noise. Similar to you how 1,000 Watts on FM radio goes a lot farther than a thousand Watts on television. Because if television signal is 6 MHZ wide, so when you refocus the wide band signal to a narrow band signal you gain efficiency at higher output levels

      Yes I think the circuit was intending to show the negative voltage as a the earth or negative side and not minus 9V. I think this has more to do with that a 9V volt battery is used which would have a negative symbol but not actually mean a negative voltage because that would imply a 18V difference which this circuit probably cant handle. @@inspiresoundpro With higher wattage? How bout 15 watt?

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro 2 місяці тому

      This transmitter is a very low power transmitter of probably only 30 to 100 mw. A higher power transmitter with 1 Watt or more will have a much longer range but it still depends on the antenna height and type of antenna. Often the antenna height will make way more difference to the signal range than the signal power. Often the signal power only helps to fill in the signal area or footprint but the antenna height can make a huge difference. For example a 1 Watt transmitter at 20 Meters high will have a much much longer range than a 20 Watt transmitter at 1 Meter height. So although the power of the transmitter does have an impact on the range there are other things to keep in mind too.

Only problem is that to tune the antenna perfectly you actually need to run a transmitter into in to measure the return signal or you have to buy a fairly expensive antenna analyzer. The best option for receiver antenna is to simply adjust the antenna by physical length to as close to the signal wavelength as possible. The video to watch is this one : ua-cam.com/video/WOGX70-kIYA/v-deo.html It is intended for transmitters so most of the tuning wont apply but it does explain how to calculate the antenna length using an online calculator.

      Well according to the terms and conditions of Udio, people who make music with Udio have commercial use of the music. What that means as far as selling a song is hard to say. There are still questions about the copyrights of AI created music. Many have said that according to laws being developed in USA Ai music cannot be copyrighted. This means although you might be able to for example use the music you create in your commercial projects according to Udio, there is still some confusion on what rights are actually given to the creator of the Ai music. This is not legal advice and because the views on Ai music are not clear its probably best to get legal advice about selling Ai music before you do.

    • @inspiresoundpro
      @inspiresoundpro 3 місяці тому

      Hi. Thanks for your comment. Yes its true that it is commonly believed that a ballun is needed but in fact there are many engineers who believe that a balun is most likely to be done incorrectly and therefore would do more harm than good which is most likely when first time builders use one. The ballun can reduce some interference and match impedance but if the antenna is built correctly, tuned close to resonance, and installed correctly the ballan will most likely make no measurable difference to the transmitted signal. In two radio where the antenna is being used for transmitting and receiving then a ballun can be more noticeable but for a purely transmitting antenna which is what this design was intended for, a ballun is not really needed. I do appreciate your input though. Its always great to chat with people about this because it gives newcomers more insight into things they might not have heard of. And to add to this I ran a low power commercial radio station with a 1 Watt Fm transmitter and we did not use a ballun and the signal was fantastic. The reason is that the antenna was high up on a hill and tuned and installed very well. These things matter way more than a ballun. This is something I try to get my viewers to pay attention to more as it will dramatically affect their range. Thanks so much. Cheers.,

      What is common to use a balance on HF frequencies, and VHF frequencies is not necessary, the dipole itself when Tim correctly should be almost a 50mm resistive load. So feeding it with a length of 50 ohm is perfectly acceptable. The phasing coax or power divider coax, it's usually made from 75 ohm, either rg11, or RG6 with Copper sheld, the point where the two interconnect, can be as simple as a basic coaxial t connector. Important part is to make sure that all of the coaxes are the same length. If one cable is even a few inches longer. It will cause the signals to not be in Phase when they leave the tower. You also have a high reflected power on your meter.

Many musicians are getting ahead of the game by using Ai for inspiration and even the basis for a new track. They then mix their own song from there. So as with all new tech, its not the Ai that will replace you but people who use AI the best way they can will maybe replace those who refuse to accept its existence.
