2023 American Western Performance Horseman Review
👏 👏 👏
when became fashion riding with the reins almost in the ears of the horse?
I don't think it is eggregious....just her cue to the horse to move out, plus she does not have to fiddle with her rein length this way.
That creamy mare really RAN into her stops. It was thrilling!
Great work as always! Will Luca and/or JV go to Idaho Falls?
Not enough money in Idaho. If they go anywhere it will be the Italian show with 30k added open and 20k added intermediate (Luca is eligible I believe)
I think it is good the focus seems to be shifting to the more mature horses to your point-...imo, 2 and 3-year-olds should be brought along slower...i.e. dressage...they work up to grand prix over many years.
I LOVE the style of Crystalized Whiskey!!! That is a cool customer, talented mare!!!!
What about Need I say more ? Did you see what happened ? It seemed to be a great individual also
Looking forward to the review!
Wow, you really nailed this one🎉
Ha ha! Well, I guess folks will be respecting your picks a bit more going forward as you pretty much nailed it. BB and the mare with the Inferno and Andrea second in a run off! BTW, regarding running with her head up...like who cares, I much prefer that style as opposed to having em run at top speed in an unnatural frame constantly fussing with them...I really hope that goes out of fashion at some point. These horses are so athletic I like when then can change without being in that frame, and they certainly can...it much more lends to the feeling of willingly guided to me, and for God sake they can see where they are going.
Thanks for making these videos, especially now!👍
I agree 👍 best run I've ever seen. Love this horse and rider combo. Want to see them in the Open.
Not on this topic but Mr. Emmons what are your oarents names?
I'm still not a fan of the low head set. But he is an extraordinary animal. His temperament and willingness is obvious.
Gawd, I wanna see some babies of his! He’s truly the epitome of what a reining cow horse is and should always be! Magnificent stallion!!!!
Any input on Matt Mills 223 on Guns And Dynamite AKA Gooder. I thought it was a top 5 run. Curious what your opinion is compared to Andrea’s run right after and what you would’ve marked that run?
This obviously was a shootout run
I love that horse, but I agreed with the judges and did not have Matt in my top 5. His stops are the contention with most people, because if you watch just the section where he goes to the ground and performs his slide he is excellent. However, when judging you start the maneuver as soon as the previous is finished. So once the lead change on the circles is complete all of what that horse does is taken into account, until he lopes off out of his rollback, and so on with each successive stop. and his performance around the ends is where he lost credit to attribute to that maneuver. So the slide might be a +1 1/2 but if the approach is -1 you are not going to get as much reward on the score card.
@@upfordiscussionKainEmmons while I don’t disagree I am not a judge but saw top 10 runs let’s say that I would call sloppier on some things maybe less willing is a better term. I also feel like Matt as well as a few others are always a few points behind walking in the gate. I know just enough about NRHA, NRCHA, NCHA to know that their is politics in all of it. While I sometimes see things different doesn’t mean I’m right. I am very interested to see how Matt does this year on the yellow Gunnatrashya Colt. The Colt looks super athletic and strong and talented probably more so than the Bigstar horse he rode last year.
sorry first spins were not great
vandinglam had an average first set of spins and still won??? interesting???
Vanlandinghams whole run was amazing, flawless!
His first set of spins were average for that particular horse. Which are considered to be good or very good by industry standards. The rest of his run (in my opinion) never dipped below very good again and his consistency throughout the pattern is why he won the event.
You did not share what Andrea's reasoning, that made sense, as to why he did not pick Gambler for the TRFAM? So curious??? The one other observation which is a factor in lots of other sports as well but was particularly pronounced in this year's competition...was the draw. The first couple horses in my feeling were definitely at a disadvantage because the energy of the crowd had not coalesced, as well the weather event that was heading toward Las Vegas was effecting the overall mood. Obviously someone at the end knows how much they have to push or not to put things over the edge. I don't have any answers as to how that could be offset with the judging but it was definitely an obvious factor in this year's competition. As they say, 'the luck of the draw' but with the stakes this high it is a shame.
What I was told (third hand) is that Gambler was more affected by the sponsor cutouts on the side of the judges chairs and Andrea did not want to risk having him spook in a circle. I would agree in a normal derby setting with hours of horses later in the draw can give you an advntage. However, when its less than 2 hours of total show time, the draw is going to play less on judges than most other conditions. Going back through the runs Jason is the only one other than Martin Muehlstaetter who didnt have one obvious mistake or hiccup in their runs. And Jason's horse performed at a higher caliber than Martin's on that night, as well as several other horses who had mistakes but performed incredibly high level maneuvers (i.e. Gina)
@@upfordiscussionKainEmmons Really appreciate, the Gambler answer, which now does make a lot of sense...is very interesting to know these top guy's thought process😉 I was hoping for a head to head between Amazing and Gambler, since they are practically full brothers and same birth year etc. Though from this story where Gambler may have a bit of advantage in ability (purely speculative) Amazing may be steadier in mind...can't say I have ever seen one that seems more nonplussed but sharp as anything. Anyway, nice to see Jason win with that 2017 horse...the stars sure aligned that year for producing some of the greatest.
Great job on your pre TRFAM shows Kain. I'm now a fan. You were kinda prophetic featuring Best Shine in your preview shows. Good call. BTW, was that you in the LOUD suit jacket that the cameras kept panning to?
No sir, I was sitting the whole evening and not on camera to my knowledge
Really enjoying your videos!
This was an amazing run great job Champ!!!
Well deserved champion!
Casey is probably my favorite rider/trainer. He's more cowboy oriented and looks at home in the saddle. So many of these rider trainers look stiff like their arms are broken like fish out of water. Also his horses aren't sucking the ground like Hoover vacs as much as the others. Casey also keeps his hands in the gear box unlike so many who stop their horses from the turn arounds and roll backs with hands and arms flailing left and right. His hands and arms don't counter balance on his rundowns like so many do. He flows. He's the real deal and his horses show it. Takes a lot of guts to give the glory to God after every run also. Great horseman. Good man.
I’m wondering why this channel picked the name “up for discussion”? It gives no context to what industry it’s referencing. I could do a UA-cam search on “reining horse podcast” and it would never even be recommended. You guys are putting the effort in but the name/branding has to be killing you. Thank you for the content, just my two cents as a viewer.
Arghh Andrea picked Lefty for the million... He might have his own reasons... I would have loved to see him ride all bets are off
So excited for this. Really have enjoyed your take on these horses.
Very very nice horse. Hope to see some colts by him soon
Blz
Again, I appreciate your knowledge and time in evaluating the great riders and horses in the RFAM! I’m so excited that I get to watch in person this year.
Thank you for the preview and commentary!
Our pleasure!
Casy, you give your insight of expertise a whole new down to earth meaning. Your new found friend will be both of yours proof to others that proof is here to see. Bless you and yours, this has been great.✨💎🐎🤠❤️🏆
Yeah, the two most exciting horses are Gambler and Amazing...and breeding doesn't lie...and interesting they are nearly full brothers...Gunner on top with both and Wimpy Little Chic, Dam on one and Grand Dam on the other....What is astounding about them both is how talented they are, yet look like they are practically out on a trail ride in their eye. Really enjoying this series and appreciate all these runs being up on YT.
Where can we watch run for the millionth
Agreed ! Gambler.
Amazing!
For horse geeks like me, I appreciate this series :)
Yeah, probably greatest non pro run ever. Yeah, I also wonder what kind of bit he has there, if it is a roller or something there is a rather straight forward explanation for the gaping, I would tend to think so but it is a distraction when you aren't thinking along those lines, and he gapes also not only on a loose rein.
Gotta love a powerful Quarter Horse. They will go far.
I am enjoying these rider/horse overviews very much. I know this takes a lot of your time and I appreciate your insight and analysis! I observed you one day,Friday, at the Horse Expo in June. You gave great demos along w the lady that was riding also!
Great 👍🏻 it's good to know about the backstage. For us who are in Europe
I love this series. I’m learning a lot! Thank you for doing this! I did see how that horse had a level top line all thru the pattern!
I love these videos, could you explique a bit more about the difference between US style and European style ? What do you mean by "more forward " ?
In the stops, the more forward I refer to in European horses is their balance point tends to be more forward and they use their necks for balance as opposed to sitting deeper on their hocks. Especially in the past in America it was more common to see that style from the east coast and midwest, where as the west coast style was a more deep sitting style. It didn't travel as far but it had more solid contact on the ground. in modern times those style have blended together and now you have horses that sit deep on their hocks while traveling incredibly far (All Betts Are Off). Where as many of the Euro style horses have to balance on their front ends as they move. I assume the difference is from where the European riders learned initially (east coast US), the animated style with the free hand that is more common and changes the riders balance point, and differences in footing, as well as, generally showing in smaller arenas.
These reining run analysis that you do are great and are helpful tool in educating the public. Thank you for taking your time to do this! I’m going to get to watch TRFM,😀
Great video.
Great video thank you.
Excited
Team TenThirty
Agreed! So exciting to watch the progress in judging. Definitely is a benefit to the horses and riders. Keep up the good work 😊
Yep, pretty good predictions...1 and 2 such exceptional horses. Abby Lengel and her mare were totally awesome as well and would have taken it all in other years.
