DCS: MiG-29A How I Land (Dark and Foggy)
Landing the MiG-29A in DCS World in fog and dark conditions. Straight in landing step by step.
Make sure to follow the course. When it's so hard to see buildings, wires, and other obstacles are a serious danger. Stay on or slightly above course (below is dangerous) and stay on speed or slightly above (falling below can lead to a loss of altitude). Even in super foggy conditions you should see the runway before touchdown. When it's really thick, it may be seconds, but it's enough to know if you're good or need to throw away the landing.
When trying to stop as soon as possible, the brakes on the MiG-29 are very good. The drag chutes help too, but can pull us off course when there's heavy wind. Today I landed without the chutes but using the brakes and putting my nose down as soon as possible. It's a pretty short landing.

DCS: Su-25T How I Land (Crosswind)

Landing the Su-25T in DCS World with crosswind. 9m/s wind. Straight in landing step by step. I come in at about 300km/h and follow the circle to stay at a good crab. If I overshoot or undershoot, slow adjustments to get back on course. When I rudder kick to straighten out before touchdown, there's a small moment before I start shifting due to the wind. Lower the alt before straighting and touch...
DCS: MiG-29S How I Land (Heavy)

Landing the MiG-29S in DCS World. Heavy due to lots of fuel, drop tank, and weapons. We have full internal fuel, full drop tank, 4 R-77s and 2 R-73s (~17tons weight). Straight in landing step by step. I come in about 320km/h, and flare off to 20km/h slower. In my previous one where I was light, I went for 280km/h. If I was landing with about 3000kg of fuel (2500-full internal fuel roughly), it'...
DCS: Su-33 How I Land (Carrier)

Landing the Su-33 in DCS World. Straight in landing step by step. I come in about 10km/h slower than the landing mode on the HUD suggests to get the AoA indicator. You can go the HUD indicated speed, but then you can't rely on the AoA indicator as it'll always be yellow. Just a little off from the carrier deck I start to feel the plane dropping a bit. I apply a bit of throttle and hit the 2nd w...
DCS: MiG-29S How I Land (Light)

Landing the MiG-29S in DCS World. Straight in landing step by step. This is the plane that inspired me to make videos in the first place. As always, it's better to bounce than tailstrike. Come in about 20km/h faster than the landing mode on the HUD suggests. Follow the circle down. At about 20 metres off the ground, it'll start pitching up to about 10 degrees on the HUD. Keeping speed at this p...

Belly landing the Su-25T in DCS World. Sometimes this is required when damage is taken, and the landing gear won't deploy.
DCS: Su-25T How I Land With One Engine

Landing the Su-25T after losing an engine in DCS World. I also experience hydraulics issues, preventing me from using my flaps. This seems to happen when losing power from one engine. Done with Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.
DCS: Su-25T Easy Landing Training

Landing the Su-25T in the easy landing training mission. Also some basic navigation. Done with the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. That little wobble at the end can happen with the twist axis due to the limited range of movements. Pedals tend to be better.

That's earlier than me. I started with Lock On and I'm still here. If you haven't been back for a while, it's a pretty good time to try. There's some pretty good free stuff. Though that's how they hook you...

Ive seen hundreds, probably thousands of these videos.. Theyre all the same. So I disliked the video because at the end of it I gained nothing new- it felt like a waste of my time.. Maybe next time instead of telling viewers 'How you land', you actually explain 'How you land' with examples of the buttons you press.. An example is- I never knew that i could fold the SU33's wings, buts whats more frustrating, is that youve not explained what keys i need to press to do this.. If I want to learn 'How to Land' I now need to watch another video just to find out what button i need to press, to drop the hook So in hindsight, it almost feels like a video where we 'watch you land', because youre not giving any helpful information out to educate me, and if i wanted to watch people land there are better videos that do this..

Thanks for the feedback. I'm always looking to improve, whether it's video making or landing itself. Up until now I've made the choice not to mention the key combination themselves because I don't know what the setup of my watcher is. You could have bound the wings and hook to a panel attached to your STECS. So in that situation, you knowing the button exists means you can find it in DCS through the search. At the very least, I'll add the button presses to the description of this video when I start DCS today. I could start saying the button presses in the video. Or I could put text on screen as a compromise between time (less speaking, shorter), and still giving people the key presses. Between the three options (presses in description, presses on screen in text, me saying the presses in the video), which would you prefer? Doing multiple at the same time is also an option of course.

@@BiasedFlight Its not just the keys, you talk about 'getting on the glide path'... How?!? Ive now got to go find a video that teaches me how to get onto the glide path from a normal flight.. I just think there are lots missed.. It doesnt bother me that youve missed those bits, as ive said- there are videos that do better at educating us, and i just hoped that in future videos, youd do better.. No worries if you dont..

@@bobbydigital51 I've noted that down. I'll probably make a separate video on that and waypoint navigation in general. How I'll address it in future videos on landing is something I'll need to think about. It's pretty easy for me to spend too much time on something others don't care about, or treat something as obvious that isn't for others. So I appreciate you pointing things out, and feedback in general. If you have anything else you noticed, please do share. I don't expect I can go from where I am now to something you'd like in one video, but hope at least if you watch again in the future you'll see some improvement.

you need coordinated turns, will make your flying a lot better.

@@franciscgedeon9237 Without a doubt. It's certainly a good tip and an important skill. Help to preserve speed during turns which is all the more important for dogfights too. When I'm using a twist axis on the Su-25T I typically make more of an effort at slow speed. It's not ideal, but it can muscle it's way through a bit when going 500km. Also heard that it's easier in real life because you can feel the turn. Some planes are much easier when using the twist axis. The Spitfire is just a joy to fly in that regard even with twist, though pedals really are so much better. Good point on the MiG-29. Planned to have a night and poor weather landing video on the MiG-29 in the near future. The main issue I've had with twist and the MiG-29 is that it can be very sensitive on default curves. I'll probably do it over again with the full proper HOTAS and pedals setup at some point. Started doing videos with the worst stick I had in the hopes that it'd be approachable to anyone new. Sure it's not ideal, but it's possible to fly even with such a low end stick as the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

@@BiasedFlight Got it. With no pedals, it's just impossible, in my opinion, complete waste of time trying, good effort though. You find Mig29 oversensitive because you are basically adding over the correlator's input, yielding overcorrection. Check out any F18 videos, below the black ball on the skid indicator there is a white bar that slides left or right in a bank, that is your automatic rudder input to keep you coordinated. You can see the ball stays in the middle all the time. You only need your rudder in weird setups, when you want to intentionally stall a wing, or on crosswind landings to turn you back onto the runway axis. You could fly the entire mission feed off the rudders. That being said, it's better to go fly imperfectly without pedals, rather than not fly at all. Have fun!
