Bang & Olufsen Penta. How do I connect it to other systems? Ep.11
How to connect all types of Penta to all types of amplifiers. What suits what amp best and ways to make connections.
This video doesn’t have many frills but answers a question that is quite tricky!
EDITS :
1. You can plug a 2 pin din into the 4 pin din socket. Just set the sensitivity according to your amp.
2. If you have a failed amplifier in the penta you can convert them into Beovox Pentas by removing the amp and use them like a conventional speaker. There are + / - posts hidden under the amp!

    Thank you. I have been totally bamboozled by the fact that my beomaster 3500 has a combination of 4 and 5 connection apertures for the speaker terminals, instead of just the normal 2 for the double din speaker connection that I am familiar with. Too be able to use the Penta with its amplifier one need to understand how that works, and it is not strait forward. There is two transformers in the amp, one for st. by, and the other is to power the amp itself, keep that in mind, you need to turn on the amps power transformer. One way is by using the PowerLink and set the selector switch to "Link" then the amp will turn on and off when the PowerLink signals it to do so. Next way is with the selector switch set to "Auto", then there is a few ways to turn the thing on, one is a audio signal on the line input (do not always work that great) another way is to connect an other amplifiers output to the "Speaker" input, it is important that it is a low impedance output that you connect to the speaker input because the Penta amp sense the low impedance and will only turn on if a low impedance is present on the speaker input, but this function had be redesigned a few times and it works better or worse depending on the model you got and there is to my knowledge no way to determinate what version of this input sense circuit you got with open the thing and check it up against the schematics. It is also worth to remember that you can only use one input in auto mode at the time, do not connect anything to the other input at all when using line/speaker input. There have been many problems with these line/speaker inputs, unwanted noise, strange turn on/off with any reason and a lot of customers that simply do not understand how to use it because it is not as easy as B&O claims.

    I have an issue going on with getting my Penta speakers to show the display. Before they didn't work at all I used to have to crank the volume up very loud then cut it back sometimes teasing it a second and third time but then once the receiver seemed to work out for maybe the amplifiers did themselves it worked fine. Is that a receiver issue a pin cable issue or speaker issue? How do I get to the bottom of this? The best they sound for me is through the four or eight pin connections. That also turns the displays on and the speakers on and off now the speaker's run all the time with the speaker inputs on them.

    When I moved from San Diego with my pentas back to Connecticut then to Massachusetts I just stood them up and wrap them with blankets and made sure they were ratcheted to the body of the moving truck. The one trip from San Diego I had my own cargo cutaway van that I could easily stand these things up inside. Thankfully all the shocks from the roadway didn't do any damage to them on the long trip.. but with all the crap I was carrying it was pretty loaded down and was pretty soft of a ride.

  • @jeffwolf8018
    @jeffwolf8018 5 місяців тому

    These things get so loud you'll lose your mind.. standing too close to them the further you get away from them the better they sound. And they can even drown out a phone call on volume 2 its lowest volume and I think it tops off at 50 or 60. Anything around 50 is where you start losing your mind..

      @@chrisbaker121924 my Panthers have the 8:10 and then an option to do speakers which is a 3 or 4 pin the nice thing about the eight-pin cable is you can hook one speaker to the other. Opposed to having them both hooked up to the receiver. Absolutely love these speakers.. but I am having a little bit of an issue with the data. I have to turn the volume way up in order to get the speakers to come on and now it doesn't work at all. So I'm running the speaker cables positive negative from the back of the 6500 receiver to the speakers. I also have a 5500 receiver and CD player. And the remote that goes to that the volume wheel doesn't work. So I usually use remote for the 9000 CD changer. Something I dream of..

    I'm so glad your bolts came out nicely. Watching the water rail pipe come off brought back my PTSD. I broke 3 bolts due to the coolant leaking past the gaskets and corroding away the base of the threads. I have an 89. Took me two weeks of multiple attempts from breaking an Easyout, then breaking a carbide drill bit into the Esyout🤦‍♂( my anxiety went through the shed roof at this point), welding 16 nuts and using tinfoil as a spark shield. Then one time catching the engine on fire from the oil and grease built up ! Eventually I had a win but had to insert a Heli coil and carefully torque up new bolts and made my own gaskets. I replaced all the hoses and to prevent any issues in the future I now run evens waterless coolant and converted the cooling system to a breathable non pressured system. Car drives beautifully. As for the double gasket, some came out with a plastic spacer so they ran with two gaskets. I think it was to extend the manifold distance for helping with better torque.

      Tbf I was amazed how well the whole thing came apart and went back together. Wouldn’t have believed it was an engine with 140k miles on it. Looked brand new inside! Glad it got sorted! Sometimes these things are nightmare.

      Of course, just use an 5 pin din aux to mini jack cable and put in a Bluetooth receiver of your choice.

      It’s probably a bad cap or poorly lubricated, they gather dust in these mechs.
