How I Fit A Mercedes Sprinter Front Vent
A quick video to show how I fit a Mercedes Sprinter front vent.
I was only supposed to be there to refit the windscreen after bodywork repair. The body shop had removed all the other glasses. I had to refit the front vent first so I had something to attach my L’il Buddy to so I could fit the windscreen on my own.
I’m sure other people may fit them differently. This way works for me and intended as a “how to” video in the hope it might help someone else.
Thanks for watching.

Windscreen Replacement Using WRD Spider & ProSet

Vauxhall Vivaro windscreen replacement. I used to WRD Spider to remove the old windscreen. It was the first time I have used the ProSet to help me fit a new glass to one of these vans. I’m slowly adding more and more vehicles to the list I can use the ProSet with. I’m self taught using the ProSet. I watched many UA-cam videos and just used trial and error to get to where I am now. I might not b...

Ford Focus Rear Quarter Removal Using Rammer Jammers

Filmed in 2022. This is me removing a Ford Focus rear quarter using Rammer Jammers so the rear quarter panel could be repaired. I would do it slightly differently now. I would use the Rammer Jammer on the front edge of the glass and then I’d use the WRD Bat and the outside method to complete the removal.

This is me replacing the rear quarter on this 2023 VW Tiguan. It was changed because the original glass had the minutest of scratches in the chrome surround. I removed the glass using the WRD BAT and the outside technique so there wasn’t any damage to the car bodywork or the original glass.

I have been struggling to get the outside method of removing glass going using the WRD Bat. It has been constantly snapping my line. The day before this was filmed I got one to work. I didn’t think to film until it started working on this window. This was only the second window I have managed to remove with the outside method. Wrapped the line round the glass twice before starting. Went very we...

    Great video thanks ! Had to brake my own window when my door lock quit working while camped in the middle of nowhere with no cell service. Didn"t have the right size rope so I've used a pair of construction boots laces ( made one loop close to the knot ) and soapy water . Worked good !

      @@danielg4228 Hi. Thanks. Thinking outside the box with the laces 😁👊. Like I put in the comments a bit further down, I’ve had to use an extension lead before. The company I work for now doesn’t replace many side windows so my opportunity to film other makes and models is limited. Thanks for watching, and taking the time to comment.

      😂😂 I don’t make a regular habit of it but the new screen had the blocks on the glass already and I was pretty sure this company’s vehicles didn’t have a peak. Plus it was miles away and would have tied up two people for a lot of the day. Don’t mind doing these this way.

    I have water coming in my 67 plate sprinter. All in my footwell. Struggling to see where from though. The liner on the firewall is soaking and so are my mats 🤦‍♂️ So definitely coming from dash level not higher Is there any specific areas I should check ?

      I can only really comment from a glass fitting perspective. Have you had glass changed recently? If you have, did you notice the water only after the work was done? It might be worth contacting whoever fitted the glass, if you’ve had any, you should have a warranty with the work. Are any drainage holes blocked with dirt/leaves etc? Normally underneath the wiper motor and possibly on both sides of the vehicle. If they are blocked water might not need able to drain away and could be finding its way into your van. Have you had a service recently? Perhaps some filters have been changed and not fitted back correctly? If so, I’d contact whoever did the work. I’m not a mechanic and this might be a complete guess at a cause. I’m sorry but apart from this I’m not sure. Good luck.

      Agreed. If only everything was as easy as these. I think my record was doing 17 of these in one go when a firm we did work for had all their catalytic converters nicked and the thieves kindly left the windows on the passenger seats. Good day for bonus that day 😁

    • @adventuresofawindscreenfitter

      Hi. Yes. It is a little more difficult though to remove a glass that isn't broken. You will need to try and lip the rubber back off the body. I do this by applying a little pressure on the glass from the inside. I use a scraper or a hook tool to try and get it started. It's hard at first but as you get more rubber lipped back off the body it should start to get easier. There's a fine line between not pushing hard enough to get the rubber started and pushing too hard a potentially breaking the glass. Personally, I would start at the leading edge of the glass, between the top of the mirror and the top of the glass. It would probably make it easier to remove the mirror before starting to do this. If you are planning on fitting a new rubber I would just cut through the old rubber. Obviously I dont know your experience level with trying to do this but there is always a risk of the glass breaking. It's a shame you can't add photos to comments on UA-cam. I'd of added some screenshots of what to do, what it looks like at the various stages if I could of. I hope that makes sense and hopefully helped bit. Good luck.

    Is it the same way on a 2006 sprinter?

    • @adventuresofawindscreenfitter
      @adventuresofawindscreenfitter 7 місяців тому

      Hi. Should be very similar. The mk2 Sprinter came out in 2006. The van in this video is a mk2 Sprinter. If you have a mk1 Sprinter there should only be slight differences in the interior door card and external mirror. Taking the interior door card off, or just loosening it will make it easier to get the rubber at the bottom of the glass to lip over the aperture if you’ve not done this before. Good luck.

    Thank you for the instruction. Saved me quite a few quid. I had a challenge getting the window and seal back in and pulling out the rope. A couple of questions: 1. About what ratio of soap to water did you use to make it slippy? 2. Anything special about the rope? It looks rather fuzzy from the video. Hopefully I won't have to replace it again... Thanks again!

      @adventuresofawindscreenfitter Рік тому

      Hi. I’m sorry for the delay in replying. In answer to your questions. That is just glass cleaner. Anything just to lubricate the rubber I find works. Some people use soap, I’ve just always used glass cleaner. The rope has seen some action over the years. It is probably 4-5mm thick. Doesn’t have to be rope. On one occasion, when I’d left my rope somewhere I used the cord of an extension lead (if it’s stupid and it works, it’s not stupid 😁) Thanks for your interest, and your questions. I’m glad the video helped.

    • @adventuresofawindscreenfitter

      Hi. No. The Renault Trafic is a bit more involved. You would have to remove the door card. I then remove the bar between the two windows, put the vent glass in and then put the dividing bar back in. I don’t have any video of a Renault Trafic at the moment. I hope that helps a bit. Thanks for your question.

    How did you do the step with the rope?

    • @adventuresofawindscreenfitter
      @adventuresofawindscreenfitter 2 роки тому

      Hi. I’ll try to explain it in words until I get another one and can make a video. I start with the rope roughly half way up one side. I feed the rope into the rubber going downwards and along the bottom of the glass. When I’m roughly halfway up the other side I make a loop with the rope and feed it back into the rubber and continue up and around the top until I get just past where I started from. I then pull the rope from one side. Once I get round one bottom corner I pull the second loop on the other side. I do it like this just in case the force needed to start the rope moving moves the glass out of position. I find pulling the second loop and coming back on yourself centralises the glass. I then pull the rope so the rubber on bottom of the glass is completely over the aperture. The weight of the glass is then supported by the vehicle body while I the pull the rope upwards and fit the top on the glass. Some people will start in one place and not put a second loop in. I used to do it this way but if the glass has moved slightly out of position getting the rope moving when starting it can make the opposite side from when you started very tight to get the rubber over the aperture. I hope that makes a little sense. Everyone has their own preferred way of doing this type of window. This is just the way that works for me. I’ll try and make a video on the next one I get to show this.

      Hi Beverly. Have you tried a Mercedes dealership? Or a windscreen replacement company? If you are planning on fitting the glass yourself I’d go with Mercedes, if you are not planning on refitting the window yourself I’d ask whoever you pay to refit it if they are able to supply the gasket too. A scrap yard may also be an option for you. I hope that helps and you get it sorted.

Since uploading this video I have changed jobs. I'm still in the windscreen industry but work for a different windscreen company where we don't change many shattered doorglasses. I will try to film one if I get one for you. Merry Christmas.
