Easy to follow as usual. Great job, thanks.
Great stuff. I look forward to the next video.
Thank you! But what about cases where the verb root begins with a diphthong? For example "aita" (surprise)?
*_Aita-_ is a neologism and is not found at the Eldamo website. But a couple of other diphthong-root verbs such as _auta-_ are, along with their perfects. I recommend also taking a look at the Quenya Grammar at Eldamo, subsection "perfect" under "verb tenses" under "verbs".
Good question! We may not have an entirely good example to guide us here. _Auta_ " go away" is said to have the irregular perfect tense _oantie_, where the "oa" part is meant to come from earlier _awa-". Tolkien does note that sometimes the augment was skipped altogether when a word began in a vowel, so that is also an option (besides reduplicating the entire initial syllable, as described in the video).
Another great video! ⭐
What a nerd. Quenya is so old-fashioned; all the cool people are speaking Sindarin.
Cuio mae!😄
4:33 _laurië lantar lassi_ indeed!
Laice lantar lassi ... ?
@@Cenindo Ná... 😅
For "I will throw an apple to a sheep", I myself would prefer the dative case _máman_ , as in Finnish one would logically pick _-lle_ (the common equivalent of the Indo-European dative) to translate this. Nonetheless the Quenya allative is acceptable if it also governs the sense "to the presence of".
As long as the idea is "in the physical direction of", I think the use of the allative can be defended. If the idea is rather "I throw an apple to a sheep for its benefit, so that it can eat it", I too would write "máman". It should however be recognized that the Quenya "dative" is in many ways simply a shortened allative, making the cases somewhat interchangeable.
Thank you, great refresher. Two questions: Did I get it right that although the nominative plural of lasse is lassi and the plural of sicil is sicili, the instrumental plural has a difference in vowel length? lassínen vs. sicilinen? Because one is an e stem, right? And second question, I noticed that adding a possessive suffix makes nouns definite (no definite article any more). How then would you say "A tree of hers"?
Thanks for making another video❤
You're welcome!
Thanks! That was a good reminder to th e last parts, I could refresh my memory rl well :)
Helge!... This is you?! I honestly thought you're retired now from all this Tolkien works, left us as a legend - having created Ardalambion and present only on the first Omentielvas... (Actually I just now checked that you were in Stockholm this year.) I'm so glad to hear you, you're awesome!:D
I aim for "living legend" rather than "past legend" status. :)
The music though, I'm expecting Finrod to come out of nowhere
É quase latim
Very interesting. Have a sub.
Thank you.
Although I think it's in Sindarin, this is the first time I have ever fully realised that Fingolfin had the word for horse in his horse's name... Very inventive, these Noldor! Now excuse me while I go name my sons Loud Finwe, Third Finwe, Fëanor 2 etc.
Yes, "Rochallor" contains Sindarin "roch", the cognate of Quenya "rocco", meaning horse.
For Spanish speakers, vowel pronunciation in Quenya is a walk in the park.
Indeed. It is mostly speakers of English that need to have this explained in tedious detail.
carpuvan quenyanen 🙃 thank you for the new part!
Always delighted to see a new Elvish video here!
Dear Mr. Fauskanger: Spanish speaker here. I notice that you always pronounce the "r" as our "rr" (hard "r"), never as our "r" (soft "r"). Is "r" always pronounced as "rr" in quenya? Thank you very much.
It is indeed pronounced like the "hard r", but in normal everyday speech it could often reduce to the "soft r"
@cuitaro Thank you very much. So the difference is not very relevant, then?
@@juang.c.6364 Nope; just don't pronounce it like the English or French "r"
The rule that double plosives are to be pronounced as aspirates surprised me. Is it in the appendices to LOTR?
No. It was long uncertain how to pronounce double plosives, but in one of the more recent issues of Parma Eldalamberon it was revealed that they are to be realized as aspirates.
@@Cenindo And they are going by some note of Tolkien's, I assume (I trust)?
I've never heard of an instrumental case before. Interesting.
It is found in languages such as Russian, Lithuanian and Sanskrit.
Hantan lyen!!! Parin linë nati ondalyanen! (Thank you! I learn many things because of your work!) ❤
wow, great sentence! nati means things?

You're welcome!
Please add quenya subtitle as well
Please, please 😊
nice again!
Great video sir, but I have questions, How to say I, you and we. And how to say your and my?
I dealt with "I" and (polite singular) "you", as well as "your" and "my", in an earlier episode: ua-cam.com/video/A9XR7Wl9X-g/v-deo.html&t I have not yet covered "we", which dissolves into no less than four endings, depending on whether "we" is dual or plural (two persons or more), and whether or the speaker includes the one(s) addressed in "we".
@@Cenindo thank you very much
I put this in a playlist as I was drawing and not quite paying attention and for the first moments I thought you were speaking Welsh with an odd accent. This is a fascinating video as I've been studying Brythonic and Geodelic for the last few months.
So - AU - in causative future forms (e. g. mentauva) is not a diphtong like in laure or lauca? And it is also not stessed as mentAuva?
It's good to see you again!
Great episode again.
Helge, thank you so much for these episodes!
Great episode.
Hantanyel! Can’t wait for more!
thank you!
Losto Mae! Hannon Le!
This is so helpful.
That's amazing!
Great video! By the way, how do I read Quenya, is it bottom to top, left to right or top to bottom, left to right? Thank you so much!
The tengwar script is written left to right, just like the transcribed version in our letters.
Et i assallo is much crasser of a joke than I would have expected from John Ronald.
here we go quenya grammar
utulien formenello hyarmenenna coanyasse ar cenin i quenya :) came back of vacation and something even better is waiting for me, thank you for this new part!! 💝🥳
I especially like repeating after you. And the more I watch this course, the more I want to learn Quenya.
I often feel I can't do the language justice. I think I have the individual sounds right, but my mortal voice may sound too flat, unmusical, hoarse or creaky -- or as a Nordic I just make the whole thing sound too much like Finnish. Hopefully others are less critical (or less discerning) than I am.
@@Cenindo If you find it unmusical, you could sing a bit every day. And for a clear pronunciation learning Italian is helping me a lot.
@@Cenindo I guess it is fine if you make it sound like Finnish as Tolkien intended Quenya to sound like Finnish.
Awesome video. Please upload profile picture
Nice touch, finishing every sentence in the closing section with a suffix from this part. Also, the beautiful visual scenery compliments the aesthetics of the language
as always very good, keep going!
Thank you Helge!!!
Always enjoy these gems of videos. Keep it up!
Well done, deconstructing such complicated matter for teaching! Thanks again. If you want to avoid advances by the Norwegian Tourism Board, why not film your next video on an industrial estate near Oslo or something. Kudos for your commitment swimming in that lake. I imagine it must have been icy.
Actually not so bad around midsummer.
