Speaking of King Crimson - In what was supposedly their last ever tour (I forget the year - maybe around 2018?), they had three drummers (one of them occasionally played some keys on a few songs rather than drums) - but anyway back to the point - one of the three drummers was the uber-talented Gavin Harrison. I got to see that tour at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Also, there's some video of them during that tour on UA-cam if you're interested in watching/hearing him with King Crimson.
Killing it! Merry 🎄
Absolutely Love it 🎉
This is beautiful! <3
<3 Love this!
My favorite Asia song. Thanks for reacting to it. Check out the group Arcadia - So Red The Rose album
This song was Long ahead of its time
Really love the reaction, the vibe and the jokes! Great guys having fun 😀 (ps: I also have that secret mission 🤫 its our secret society haha)
Love you guys enjoying the music, a great song and a great band. Rock and roll my friends. All the best. Cheers.
Most everything has been said on what other songs to do I've seen them three times. Twice with the original lineup. Including Jon 😇 They were better with Dennis DeYoung though "I'm a lonely sailor lost at sea. Drifting with the tide. Never quite knowing why" "Sometimes it makes no sense at all" You could compare them to REO SPEEDWAGON before REO changed. their sound.
It's wild to think that as complex and complete as this song is, compared to any song on Terraformer, or even Stranger Heads Prevail, this one pales in comparison. Every person is a virtuoso in their field, and they use dynamics, meter, and voicings as a way to further the song, and not solely as gimmicks. I'm sad to see Sal go, but I'm excited for their future, regardless. Thanks for the reaction! Edit: Also, Tom Monda is a genius and one of the greatest living prog writing and performing guitarists.
you don't just listen to this song, you ride it......
Tyler talks WAAAAY too much. Let Jack experience it for himself without skewing his reaction and ruining the experience for him and for us. It became so unbearable I could not watch the entire video.
Wow. Hearing of Circus Maximus outside of Norway seems to be to be a rare gem. Do recommend checking out Mouth of Madness from them. That's a _handsdown_ banger
Glad people are checking out variety of their stuff. I do recommend checking out Drowning In The Flood from their debut and at the same time hopping straight over to Eyes of Ebony from their most recent record, to hear the vastly different and similar sides to Haken and their growth ^^
I love the way y'all love music. My favorite past time is sharing amazing music with cool people. Thanks for sharing yours with me. Love the channel. Cheers, guys!
Listen to this song at eleven to get the full effect.
B&B and Cabo are both so freakin awesome
"Midnight Sun" is my favorite Asia song (and it's on Alpha), and sounds vaguely Steve Hackett in moments, but there are a few truly excellent tracks from that album. "The Last to Know" and "Eye to Eye" (which is a bit more Buggles than prog-rock in its eccentricities) are damn good, too.
Banger
I saw Peter do a solo session (w\guitar) in San Francisco in 1979. Changed my life.
I've been in love with Tori's music since about 2006 or so. Mother is probably one of my all time favorites. Lil background in case this isn't covered(I'm like 10min in so far lol) Tori was the youngest person ever admitted to the Peabody Institute at age 5 but was asked to leave at age 11 for what she says was "musical insubordination" cuz she plays by ear so wouldn't read sheet music and preferred the rock music of the 70s over classical music. She really got her start performing in gay bars cuz they were the only ones that would let her perform at age 13. Her father chaperoned, who was a Methodist pastor. Tori is also such an influential musician for a lot of others, the way she pours out her heart and soul, the way the piano is an extension of herself. I've only recently, even after all these years, come to realize the true genius of her talent. Watch some videos of her playing with backing musicians. She really knows how to pick em! But the way she also orchestrates the music while playing and singing, signaling to the others is insane! And they are soooo good at building an environment and a mood to go with her original music. I'm not a metalhead but I've a lot of others say they are huge fans of her and she's metal in spirit. She's also collaborated with Maynard of Tool and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails(that's an interesting rabbit hole to go down. Courtney Love comes in to play), as well as the author Neil Gaiman. Some of my other favorite songs/others worth checking out are: Father Lucifer(check out the Storytellers where she gives a little background on it lol), Little Earthquakes(actually that whole album), Marianne, Blood Roses, Cruel, Spark, God, Cornflake Girl, The Waitress, Cloud on my Tongue, and Icicle(which the live version from Jay Leno inspired a scene in Bob's Burgers xD) But yeah, sorry for the rant, I'm just very very passionate about her music and love finding these kinds of videos 😅
Most Styx fans from the 70s know and love this song. Dennis DeYoung is very theatrical and always brought that to their shows. It led to the bands breakup, too. Dennis did play the role of Pontius Pilate in the Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar. I did see him when the touring musical came through our city. He was really good in it. I'm would like to suggest a newer performer for you to watch. Taj Farrant is a guitar player/singer/songwriter. His album comes out in August and he has released 6 originals songs from it. Crossroads, Cruz, Bad Trip, House Always Wins, 2x2 and I Give Up have all gone to #1 on the iTunes blues charts. Taj recently was the guest performer at the 40th anniversary celebration for Prince's Purple Rain release in Minneapolis. He performed at the street festival, opened for Morris Day and Prince's band NPG. He joined NPG on stage and played Purple Rain. ua-cam.com/video/8nxXml7_8c0/v-deo.htmlsi=rn4bPf70FMPOEUQy He also played the next day at Paisley Park. He was asked to perform a song that of Prince's that isn't well known The Ride. ua-cam.com/video/M1QLNn2udng/v-deo.htmlsi=hDiHlmk3WqFUxvTt Taj did a great job singing and performing it. He was given a tour of Prince's home and got to listen to some of Prince's unreleased music in his vault. He also was able to record in Prince's recording studio. Taj is touring the US and selling out shows. He's playing at some big festivals and is opening a few shows for Buddy Guy. He's going to also be a performer on Joe Bonamassa's blues cruise. Taj's favorite guitar player is Gary Moore. He performs Gary's Parisienne Walkways at his shows and it's always incredible. It's his favorite song to play. ua-cam.com/video/yafWzYfRtj0/v-deo.htmlsi=YRyzZi2fiQIDdlF3 He also does a fantastic job performing The Sky is Crying ua-cam.com/video/YhLBq9eBI40/v-deo.htmlsi=GQ3LzDoe0R8jom2k He has performed onstage with Carlos Santana, Orianthi, Rob Thomas, Christone Kingfish Ingram, Eric Gales and Kiss. Taj has done all this and he just turned 15. The producer of his album Ken Lewis has said that Taj can stand toe to toe with anyone in the industry. Ken Lewis has worked with some major artists and has had many Grammy nominations. He won last year for his work on Taylor Swift's album. Taj is a deep rabbit hole. He's been playing for 8 years now lol.
Btw, all the strings are actually from cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne. So no synth strings, and no violins
Thank you for this, would deffenetly watch more vdgg/Hammill
You guys are a really likeable bunch, would love to see more reactions with the whole "gang" in the future! Also would love to see you dig more into Opeth, Dream Theater and Haken (If most of you don't know them). All the best to you guys from germany 💞
Agree to all of this!
Glad you mentioned Alan Parson's work on Dark Side of the Moon. He was also working on the Beatles' final works, including Abbey Road and Let it Be.
Coming from the prog world, I think owner of lonely heart and heat of the moment are my least favs from their respective albums! I like them; however, I think all other material is superior.
Interesting Asia song to pick from the debut album. Everyone either goes for the radio hits Heat of the Moment or Only Time Will Tell and the more prog songs, Sole Survivor and Time Again. A classical UA-cam did a great break down of Heat of the moment. Not being musical, I didn't realize. It is in D, which is odd for a pop song. The song goes from 4x4 to 4x8 and back to 4x4. You left out Geoff Downes in The Buggles before he and Trevor Horn were asked to join what became the Yes Drama lineup. I believe this was a Howe composition is on one of his Homebrew albums. The lyrics are different and it has more a demo sound.
This song IS my FAVORITE Asia song!!
Great song; even better version on their 1978 live album
Awake is my personal favorite DT album. I’m actually solidly behind everything from When Dream And Day Unite all the way to Systematic Chaos… they started losing me on Black Clouds and Silver Linings and it just kept getting worse and worse. Kept buying the albums all the way to The Astonishing, but that’s where I stopped. I have heard the last two albums, but they did nothing for me. This used to be my favorite band from 1992 all the way to 2010. Looking forward to the new album with Mike Portnoy coming back, but there’s 13 years there where I really couldn’t enjoy their newer albums. Anyway, great to see this song and the Awake album getting some recognition and appreciation. It’s one of their best.
Love you guys, bonneville❤
VDGG amazing, Man-Erg their best imo.
You should do the mirror/lie
Hell, yes! My favorite band!
Tales of Mystery and Imagination is quite an experience. Too many favorite songs by Alan Parsons to pick, but off that album, The Cask of Amontillado would be my pick.
Nice to see you appreciate a band from another time but still one of the best ever.
VDGG is the best!!!
Nice. Still my favorite DT album. Doesn't get enough love from the fans, IMO. To me it holds up better than I&W, which sounds a little thin and dated by comparison. Kevin Moore was their best lyricist, and the moody, more poetic lyrics really fit the vibe on this album.
ALSO, Michael's HIGH Harmonies!!!!!
I love the drum and guitar sound on that album. I know Dream Theater because of Awake and it was an eye-opening experience for me to the prog rock world. Fun fact: This was recorded at One on One studio. Same studio that Metallica recorded ...And Justice For All and the Black Album.
I think side two of Grand Illusion is the better of the two. Miss America, Castle Wall and Man In The Wilderness are such bangers.
Kickass song, my wife’s all time favorite from Foreigner, definitely Top 3 for me, with Head Knocker topping my list, just for its quintessential description of an old school Rocker.
Thanks for the reaction guys. I havent seen many meaningful reactions to this song or this album on YT. This was the opening track on my playlist on my trip to school in the mid 90s. I didnt even try to cover these songs till 98. And back then, it was really difficult to find people who wanted to do this type of music. Its so nice to see how things have aged n how its appreciated today. Cant wait for the new one with Portney back.
DT... 👏
Try to find michael bolton saturday night live feed the chickens and review it
One of my favourite albums from one of my favourite bands.
If you want a great song with Wakeman on it listen to “Where is This Dream of Your Youth” from “Just a Collection of Antiques and Curios”.
I've ALWAYS played this song to test new speakers. Went through a lot of speakers because of this.
