You Won't Believe How EASY Drawing Cities from Photos Can Be
In this video I demonstrate how to draw a city scene using a photo as inspiration. I draw the scene showing you haow to set up the horizon line and vanishing point. Its a quick and loose sketch with some principles you can try too.
As always thanks for watching!
Specific to this video are most the pens that I used:
Ohuhu Honolulu series Art Markers. 36 colours.
Uni POSCA pen White 0.7mm
These are the art materials I mostly use in my videos and will continue to use in the future.
I use fineliner pens for most of my drawings. I recommend using the Staedtler as they last the longest, you can get them here:
amzn.to/47Qmmd8
Watercolour paints I use most often:
Rosa watercolour set.
amzn.to/4bZigCK
I use copic sketch markers for most of my shading and colouring. You can buy sets of these or individual pens this is the closest match I could find as a set:
COPIC WARM GREYS SET
amzn.to/4aIapZR
Cool GREY SET:
amzn.to/48siE9S
COPIC GREENS SET
amzn.to/48n5ufk
COPIC Classic Coloured Marker Pen - Wallet Set of 12 Architecture
amzn.to/47JT7ZG
And last of all Sakura Gelly Roll to do the window frames and add the highlights I use these:
amzn.to/4b9EZLU
Lamy Safari is my go to fountain pen for sketching.
amzn.to/4btVFOD
Ohuhu markers - a new addition to my marker collection but im really enjoying using these and as a bonus a little cheaper than my ususal brands I use:

Hi, love the videos and your portraits. I was looking at getting into building portraits and was just wondering if you have any advice for someone starting out? And how best to practice. Thanks :)
Hi Reece, thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos. My best advice to get started is to start with a simple subject. Try a few different techniques, styles and art mediums. When you find a subject and art medium that inspires you you’re on your way. Of course keep watching and leaving great comments. Stay tuned 😀
There’s no hating here! I love it
Thank you Molly 😀
I love your hard work and I hope you succeed in your UA-cam cool❤

Let me know if you have a Architectural style you prefer to draw?

Yes, you can indeed. In my opinion the nib I have could be a little softer.
Wrong audio but amazing art
Thank you. That’s a good point 😀 what audio did you have in mind?
What a find! A brilliant way to divide up the human body for practical sketching purposes. I love the fact that you can practise this in lots of different ways. THANK YOU! Plus i like this jazz soundtrack. It all helps to be more relaxed when approaching the awesomeness of the human form!
What a lovely comment, thank you. I’m so glad that you found it useful. I’m working on some similar videos that I hope you will like too. Thanks again means so much.
Thank you! This is very helpful. One thing I do not understand though, in the photo at the end of the video, the guy in the orange shirt is closer than the others, but his head is not on the same horizon line as those further away. And then there is the child in blue also not on the horizon line. Perhaps there is a range and as long as a head is within it the perspective is correct? Thanks again for the useful video.
Hi Gary, thank you for your comment. You’re right indeed. My understanding is that the horizon line is slightly lower in the photo. With all the heads of people on the horizon line you are viewing the subject at eye level. This is a rule of thumb. Children as they tend to shorter can below the horizon line. Hope this helps?
@@finelinesillustrations Thank you for your reply. Yes that helps!!
You are an amazing artist
Thank you Bob that’s very kind of you to say. I’m learning the trade, hope you’re finding your art style. 😀
Which paper do you use
Hi, thanks for your interest. For markers there is specific paper. I’ve used Canson marker paper before. (It’s got a pink cover) there are other brands, Copic do one too. I found that the paper is rather thin so like to use a thicker mixed media paper. Again Canson x mixed media (blue cover). I like the smooth one. Hope this helps? Thanks for watching. 😀
@@finelinesillustrationswhat of laser printing or HD printer paper. Will it bleed to the other side. Also nice line art btw
@@bobnyanginja9931 you can use ordinary paper but it will bleed to the other side. Also it’s more difficult to blend the markers with this paper type. Hope that helps ?
@@finelinesillustrations aight bro
Youre amazing !
Thanks Edo 😀
Can you provide the link for the water brush pen you use to color.
Hi Steve, thanks for watching. I bought these from my local art shop some time ago but can’t find who makes them. Lots of art companies make them. They are great especially when on the go. Here’s something I found that is very similar. www.craftyarts.co.uk/design-journey-water-brush-set-p14954/s28223?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_XFlYhsHwgtea_v_nQP9ZF21b2R&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI963wzqXYhwMVHo9QBh0xVgD7EAQYEyABEgIU1vD_BwE Hope this helps.
This was so helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your gift.
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching shay! 😀
very creative...!!👍
Thank you so much. 😀
Check out the full video on my channel 🤩
Thanks for watching. I would love to hear your thoughts. My initial thougt is that its best to start the colouring with a light colour. Then you can build the layers getting darker to build contrast to your drawing. Hope this inspires somone to pick up a marker and give it a go. Would love to see your pictures!!!?
Yes, it was helpful. But now I want to know about drawing people on a 2 point perspective. Loved the music!
Hi Jack, Thanks for watching and thanks for the great idea!

Brilliant thank you!
Thank you so much Liz. So glad you thought it was helpful.
This video is awesome. Somewhere else I saw that not making a circle for the head (but rather an elongated shape) helps a lot.
Thank you so much. Yes, thats a good tip too. It often depends on the look you are going for but heads are not always round, are they😀
Genius. Very helpful
Thank you Kym. I'm glad it was helful.

Ah thanks so much Ross. I’d be delighted to oblige. 😀
