    Round port 455 HO heads were the best. The #96 were the best D-port heads to use on a 455 build. The outflowed the 6X on both sides and had a smaller chamber- big valves and all the exhaust bolt holes.. Stock Blueprinted bottom-end with #96 heads, an 041 cam and a Quadra-Jet made over 500hp everytime. -and on pump gas.

    1977 6x heads, how do those compare to the earlier 1967 “670” heads?( what I have )

    All right that looks that's a nice looking motor but won't you use the rear end 5 heads if you want to get 450 to 500 horsepower out of it

      @James Conley ... "rear end 5 heads' ??? ... RAM AIR 5 heads.

  • @tunnelportterror

    A few things...the rods and crankshaft were made in China. 6x are NOT the best cylinder heads. The casting 66 are actually better, if screw in studs are installed, and mill the heads .065". Ram air 2, 3, 4, 5 heads, and sd421/sd455 heads, are better yet. Cast 16, 62, 670, 31 heads are also better than 6x, but require a custom dished piston. Other than that, good plan.

    I would definitely put hardened Exhaust valve seats in these heads to avoid cracking issues Otherwise nice parts pick

    I was wondering, i have a grand prix 1971 455 200hp, 2 bolt main, 7h4 heads 114cc big valve, 2 barrel with only 80k miles virgin block. Will 1969 62 heads 72cc with 4 barrel intake fit the sleeping giant? Or i do need to add other part to make it work?

    • @gt-37guy6
      @gt-37guy6 4 роки тому

      Chem Dog, did you every try this setup? Those heads are perfect for 400, but will be wicked high compression on a 455, prob 11 to 1. You want to be more like 80cc chambers to about 100cc on 455 engines.

  • @windsorforge5922
    @windsorforge5922 5 років тому

    Well i hab#17 heads. And the velocity they build on my 400 get me more torque off the line.. so basically i beat everyone..after all who race on street passed 60 70 mph

    Cool stuff , I'm running a 1972 455 H.O. , .30 over with old school trw L2394 pistons with 7f6 heads , love these Pontiacs been running them since the mid 70s , wish I would have kept more of the blocks and heads I had , hope it turns out well 👍🏁

  • @tunnelportterror

    the problem with lowering CR by using a big chamber, is it increases the distance from the intake valve to the top of piston at TDC, this reduces the suction effect of the piston on downstroke, and less a/f mixture is pulled into the cylinder on intake stroke. the way to do it is with a flat OHV head or nearly flat, and a dish in the piston, that is optimal. the main reason the RA IV heads work so well is, the valve is .040" closer to the piston top- a slight amount but with dramatic effect.

  • @tunnelportterror

    are they those Chinese forged rods in the video ? I'd pass on those.

    so are you using the ferrea f 5141 -8 1710 11/32 valves in these heads ?..I have a set of these 6x 8 heads that I'm going to put on a 69 428. I was told years ago to use big block chevy rocker arm studs on these heads ..thanks

    Mike, first off a great choice on the heads. I noticed you had the High Performance Pontiac mag. They had a flow tested ALL of the Pontiac heads and the 6x heads were the best of all of the heads. If you are using headers, you will have to drill another exhaust bolt. The intake Torquer is misnamed, the Edelbrock RPMs intake would have been better choice. I'm interested in your choice of cam here.

    • @brucefulper4204
      @brucefulper4204 4 роки тому

      Baloney, I did all of the flow testing on all of those heads and the 6X heads are no better than any other 2.11 intake, screw-in rocker stud head. Only the combustion chamber size is different

    • @michaelreardon7667

      @@brucefulper4204 Spot on Bruce, the 6X is just a small exhaust valve smog head. Never really understood the popularity of that casting.

    • @brucefulper4204
      @brucefulper4204 3 роки тому

      @@michaelreardon7667 Well, it's a superb casting like so many of the other low Cr. Heads. Has lots of potential. The 1.66 is desirable to way past 650 hp
