There are various versions of this concert floating around; I'm going to post all the versions I have, as I feel this is one of the best representations of '80s era Chicago. They're sounding scrappy, hungry to get back to their previous heights after the huge blow suffered from Terry Kath's untimely passing; and knew they were onto something big with Chicago 16 (which was released just two months prior to this show). "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" was a hit on the rise, and would reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100 a month later. My guess is there was also a good amount of drugs that accounted for the somewhat frantic pace of this performance, but you can't say it wasn't an exciting show.
This is an condensed version of the full concert that was broadcast on WLS-FM. My understanding is that this edited version was later broadcast as part of the Westwood One In Concert series.
This particular source is from a cassette recording my uncle made of the original radio broadcast; it's a bit punchier than other versions I've heard, with more bass and midrange. There's a couple of brief dropouts where the recording was stopped and started, and one bit where I accidentally hit "record" years ago while listening to it.
On a personal note, this recording - particularly @ChrisPinnick-ql8sh 's guitar playing - was a watershed moment for me as a young guitarist. It's a shame Chris doesn't get more recognition, because his playing on this recording is incredible. Be sure to check out his YT channel at ua-cam.com/channels/ostqGUdX-hNdILz5vYcACQ.html

Chicago would return again on Aug. 5, 1982, to perform in a benefit concert for DePaul at Park West. Many things had changed for the band members in the intervening years, most notably the length of their hair. But their spirit and enthusiasm for their alma mater remained the same. Numerous photographs show the DePaul alums hanging out around campus, showing support for Blue Demon basketball and posing with the legendary Leon Stein, another famous School of Music alum. The pictures capture the true spirit of DePaul: like any home, no matter how long you may be gone, the people here will welcome you back with open arms and pride.

Such a great slice of 70s hard rock - dig the bass pedals Richie uses, tweaking the reel-to-reel delay in the middle of the song, etc. And a great performance by Ronnie James Dio.
