    My childhood Christmas's were like yours. Great video with great tips! Some of these I need to do at this phase of life. I decluttered a lot of my filler stuff. I went from 5 big bins of decorations to 2 medium bins. It was so satisfying!! 😄 I used to decorate everywhere around the house for holidays. I decided to simplify my decorating. It will be my husband and I and our grown children this year. Your kitty 😍 Thank you for your prayer! I hope you and your husband have a very blessed weekend! ❤

    Portland! My husbands aunt lives there! Nice to meet you Kassy! (Im here in CA) I’m in between. I keep my kitchen and living room clean but tend to forget about my bathroom (Ick, I know 😣 I need to habit stack when I’m in there brushing teeth) and craft room/office until they are bad! (I had a dream about organizing our office in our new home, which we haven’t gotten yet! 😂). It’s just my husband and me so he does the laundry most of the time about twice a week.

    Listening to the replay. of all the chores, laundry is the one thing I've been doing since I was 12 and was given full responsibility for my own laundry. So, for me, it's not hard to remember to do it. Also, my washer and dryer are in a very convenient area of the home so it's easy to switch loads when I happen to walk by the laundry area Whether I do it in one day, or every dsy, really depends on what's going on in my life at the time. In this season in my life, I'm doing several loads every single day, 7 days a week. But that's because we use towels and rags for ALL of our cleaning, instead of paper towels. all other laundry gets done one or 2 loads a day 5 days, but cleaning towels get done every day. That said, my most important daily things (in THIS order) are: 1. Take care of pet messes (i.e, scoop litter boxes, Clean up any dog accidents l-she's older now). 2. Keep laundry moving 3. keep dishes moving (I handwash) Those are my absolute non-negotiables. If nothing else gets done, those are the 3 csn't get missed, no matter what. After that is making my bed, picking things up as needed whenever I leave a room, wiping down the kitchen counters whenever I cook or clean in the kitchen, and swishing and swiping my bathrooms....in that order. Lastly Is my weekly and zone cleaning. I tackle all of this by doing my main cleaning in the mornings and in the evenings during Dinner prep and after dinner, and then just lithle tidyingvm and cleaning sessions in between as I go. With each cleaning session, I focus on the furst 3 things FIRST, THEN I see what's next. With laundry? I make sure at least one load is completed each day. With every tidy session, I see where my laundry is at and get it to the next stage. There's always at least one load of laundry Either waiting To be done or in process. I don't get stressed about that. I just Keep it moving and it doen't Spiral out of control, because I Fold and put away one load at a time, when it's at that stage. Weekly and zone cleaning get lumped in with my Tidying sessions, doing small tasks at a time, I try to do a daily 5 minute de-clutter when I can, aside from the-cluttering during zone cleaning. The toughest thing For me is accepting that I have to give myself more time cleaning that I'd like because I handwash my dishes, and it iften takes me away from other things that I want to get done. However, Placing the dishes on the priority where I have it, means that I never have to worry about needing a utensil or dish and not having it because it's either in the dish washer or it's in the sink waiting to be put in the dish washer. That used to drive me crazy.

      My friend, you sound so much more calm and in control now. I’m so happy for you!

    • @lovefortruth3414
      @lovefortruth3414 6 днів тому

      @TodaywithTerriK haha! Still a bit stressed, but not anywhere near how stressed I've bern for nearly 4 years. I finally mo longer feel like I'm chasing my own tail. My cleaning routines still take longer than I'd like, but now, I just go through the tasks in the order that I've set for myself, no matter how chaotic things look. Instead of focusing on yhe whole mess, I focus on my routibes and habits, and maintenance modexareas are staying maintained while messy house areas are progressing to maintenance. One thing I switched up yesterday, is going to sound crazy; but it's been another game-changer. I decided to do the daily sweeping, or the weekly mopping (if it's mopping day) FIRST, right after scooping the litter boxes; feeding tge fur kids and getting dressed. That's right! No making the bed, no dishes, no laundry, no wiping down surfaces until the floors are swept and/or mopped if mopping applies that day. That means all of my mainvtraffic areas since I have all hard floors. I know. It sounds counter productive when you have dusges to be done and surfaces to dust or wipe down. But here's the thing. The floors need atckeadt 1 good sweep per day and vacuuming and mopping once a week. But at yhe end of each day, do you know whatcl ends up getting dropped off my completed list the most often if I poop out before getting all my dailies done? You guessed it! The floors! Imean; the DO get done, bit not n3arly often enough to really look lije tgey're being maintained. And it diesn't mstter if everything else got done ir not. The house doesn't look tidy. I mean, it only takes mex10 minutes on average to broomvsweep through the main areas and my master bathroom, so it's an easy job. The perfectionist in me always said: work from top to bottom even during during your daily tasks. I mean, logically, you would work that way. But the idea of nedding to wait until the other cleaning tasks are done, often enabled me to provlcrasyinate and feel even more overwhelmed. My friend, let me tell you, doing that daily floor reset before all the other things, made yge rest of my day yesterday feel easy! I'm feeling that way this morning as well., because I know that even if I don't get to touch-up my floors as needed throughout the day, they will get their dsily reset tomorrow morning. Talk about throwing perfectionism out the window! And house and my brain are better off for it! I would highly recommend reversing the order in which you normally do things for anyone who procrastinated and gets overwhelmed because of perfectionism! Just flip the daily tasks upside down and work bottom top throughout the day.

    Hey Terri! I don't know if zi shared this in another video, but about 4 days ago, I reached a HUGE milestone on my early 4 year Chaos to Clean journey. My KITCHEN arrived at the finish line to CLEAN! It was tge first room or area that zi dtarted tacking abs ir's tge furst to finally be at 100% maintenance mode! Even any orgsnising or de-cluttering is now finally just maintenance as needed. It's not perfectly deep-cleaned, but each area of thst doace has been deep cleaned at keast once, and everything....I mean everything...in my kitchen is way easier to work with! Dishes still take the longest because I habd wash tgem. But every other aspect of cooking abd ckaning is a breeze in there now. My kitchen is finally at that swet spot of ckean that I ant to be in with it... not perfect, but goid enough. It now feels welcoming and inviting wgen I o in there. It feels like "home" now. And, I now have more time on my day for the other important household and personal things. And, I feel energized and inspired to keep tackling the ither areas a small bites at a time and watch each one arrive to ITS finish line! Thank you so so so so much for continuing to share your wisdom, encouragement and prayers with all of us. I have also shared this milestone with The Clutter Big, Dana K White, and Flylady and the ladies on her live chats. Oh, I nedd to share it with Nikki from Carry Grace. You, and all the ladies I mentioned have bern the biggest help to me to get started and keep going. Again, thank you! ❤

    8 months later, yup. I tell people who comnebt that they are struggling with all the things....to use the STRUCTUTE of the system and make their own daily, weekly, zone cleaning and Focus jobs lists based on their nedds and what's going on in their lives. Fir instance; I STILL don't akways clise downtge jitchen at nighr; and I already have enough morning routine things that are more urgent than Swishing and Swiping the bsthrroms. But resetting the kittchen and the daily swish and swipe are still important to me. So, I maje the swish and swipe a Daily thing but not any set part of my day. I just cat h each bsthroom when I have 5 minutes for 1 bathrolm. Sometines I het alm 3 in one ckeaning session. Sometimes I split tgem up throughout the day. As for the kitchen, if it doesn't get done at nighr, I do it in bites betwwen other morning routine tasks in the morning. Also, I have different Daily Focuses, and I leave 2 or 3 days open to allow for flexibiliy. And one of those das is NOT Anti-procrastination day. Gor me it has a negative tone to the label, but thst's just me. I think it's a great name for it, but it's just not for me. That day and the ither open days are for errands, vusiting family or triends, splitting up my weekly cleaning ir my meal and food prep into more than one day if needed; or even making a ladt-minute spontaneous decision to tacklecl a cleaning, crafting; or orhanising project that zi just feel inspired to do that day. But the bsic syructure is the same. I have my morning routine, afternoon routine, and evening routine, my Daily Focus tasks and my zone cleaning is still broken down into small bites per day for 5 days. I'm now thinking of doing each zone for a month each because I still don't get to it consistently, there's dtill alot of de-cluttering to do, tgere are dome zone cleaning jobs that seem to get missed every time that zone comes around. ..and I don't want to add more work during each day than I already have on my plate. And I think I'll stick to a month per zone as long as I feel I need to until I feel like the house is pretty much out of chaos. And, as each zonebecomes quicker and easier, I'll adjust the zone cleaning schedule accordingly. It may mean that, in the end, some zones get a week, and some 2 weeks or whatever. I have alot of spaces and they're condensed into 5 zones, so I think they need more time.

      Hey Terri; my parents let me go through some of their things last week, and besides little recipe books from my dad's mother and a 165 year old family Bible on my dad's side, my mom gave me a a keepsake recipe book that she never got around to filling out. So guess what I plan to do today while finishing up my meal prep for the week? Yup! I plan to add my own recipes to it, and maybe start browsing through the other recipe books and pick out the ones that I want to have in the keepsake book :). I'm so excited! I've grown into enjoying cooking in the past 7 years. I think it makes a HUGE difference when the kitchen you cook in every day is YOUR kitchen, set up the way YOU want to make it functional for YOU. I'm a shorty like you, and I'm left-handed, and you probably know how difficult it can be to cook and clean in there when everything is set up for the average or tall person. Add to it that I'm not right-handed. Well, now that I finally have a home where the kitchen is MY kitchen run the way I need it to run, I have the freedom to move things around the way that I need them. I still sometimes have to remind myself that I don't need anyone's permission to re-arrange things if I find tthat somethings not working for me anymore. I just attained a piece of storage space that allowed me to re-home some things in the kitchen that I use every dsy, which freed up cabinet space, which freed up some counter space,;which enabled me to re-arrange the must-haves on my counter tops, which put them all in easier to grab spots on my counter, AND look neater and less cluttered. This storage space may also be able to hold my vraft duplexes as well (sewing and crochet), which will clear up space in the loving room. I really try not to ADD any more storage co trainers, but this is a family piece AND, even though I'm de-cluttering, sometimes you do still need that extra space gor the things that are most important to you. The past 2 days since I did that, cooking and cleaning in my kitchen has beebecome almost a breeze (minus still hand-washing dusges lol). I have been re-organising a little here and there since my kitchen has been in maintenance mode for a few years. Each time I do, it's a little bit easier to work in there. But this last re-arrangement has felt like I may have actually found my sweet spot with my counter top items. It would probably drive you bonkers to see my things as a lady bug organiser. But for this bed/butterfly fly hybrid who has just slight lady bug tendencies; looking at my kitchen when it's had it's daily reset, is boh eye-pleasing, relaxing AND inviting...like my kitchen is telling me to come on in and prepare something yummy 😋...or come on in and experiment lol. So, the rest of my house still has a ways to go; but my bathrooms are almost there and my kitchen is in full maintancw mode, with just the next to organise a little more here and there. And at least one extra bedroom is usable for guests. After over 3 years, it feels soooooo good to be able actually really see the progress. I could get it done alot qui jer by doing more de- lettering each day than what I'm doing. But I'm. Ot willing g to sacrifice more personal or family time than I already between daily maintenance and other hommaking tasks that are NOT cleaning tasks.

PLUS, check into Mint Mobile to see if you can save too trymintmobile.com/todaywithterri ! Don't forget to say HI...plus let's have some fun: tell me what was the last video you watched on UA-cam? I am finishing up a commentary video about anti-MLM which I find so interesting. It's not all house cleaning around here, baby! The past 2 months have been a blur with getting ready for my son's wedding. It was beautiful! I finally was able to sit down and look at what we want to do going forward and WOW...Next week is NOVEMBER! I am floored but also like oh shoot. I have 5 weeks to get things done before my big trip. That means November is going to be double down cleaning and filming and I need to know what YOU want to see!!!

    Do you have a video talking about your digital planner? It looks really cute and I’m scared to strike out the first time I try to use one. If it’s not easy I won’t use it, etc. I’m sure there is a learning curve at first ❤

    Assume your emergency binder will get wet & put it in a ziploc bag. Laminate certain pages & you can seal the open side of page protecters using a Food Saver or clear tape. Great tips! I was missing a few things. Thank you 💜

    Teri- I am so overwhelmed right now. All of your ideas are definitely spot on. Is there any way you could make like "baby steps" SHORTS on each thing you mentioned. I think I could get it together if you explained the info one at a time and I had time to work on 1 section before we move on to the next thing. Having your hubby show us how to turn off water, electricity and gas was so helpful.
