Barista Hustle AutoComb Review | Goodbye Moonraker
Want to see more videos like this? SUBSCRIBE for specialty coffee related reviews, tutorials, small business education and more!
A few months ago, I purchased not one, but TWO Weber Workshops Moonrakers in hopes that they could efficiently increase espresso extraction yield and decrease shot channeling at both of my cafes. Within two weeks, the needles were destroyed, due to what I consider to be poor design of the base. My attention immediately turned to the Barista Hustle AutoComb, a device I’ve been anticipating since its announcement at WBC 2022. Can this device fix the issues of the Moonraker while still increasing quality? Thanks for watching!
Buy the AutoComb: [global.baristahustletools.com](global.baristahustletools.com/)
*I don’t make money on sales through the above link, but Barista Hustle did send me this device for free (though I bought a second with my own money). They had no influence or say over my opinions in this review.*

    The ability to grind whole beans fresh every time you make coffee is a way bigger upgrade than a better drip machine.

    Wait up, hold a minute, this £200 device that has WiFi capability isn't smart. They really see you coming huh? Thanks Riley, this is the third video I have watched and you're the first to make it clear. (One was even from the manufacturer) This device isn't compatible with smart phones or Google home. I'm confused as to what you're paying the money for when there are other devices are out here. A cheap kettle is £15 this is 10x/12x that price it doesn't make sense. Riley really prevented a Christmas tragedy. I have fibromyalgia so the lack of a remote boil feature had made this a terrible product for me. I was just about to hit buy and I thought one more video. Lucky break!

    I recently bought the Ode 2, coming from an 1ZPresso JX hand grinder (for V60 pourover) and I'm absolutely happy with the Ode 2. Extremely easy, very fast. I just set the dial to the setting in the very middle, coffee was very delicious on the first try, never touched the dial wheel since.

    I disagree. I has plenty 'Bang for the Buck' for me. In Life, ANYTHING you usr EVERYDAY, not to mention 4, 5, 6 times a day is worth extra money if it is important and does a good job. Most Reviewers on this product feel that it is very important, essential to a great Espresso. So Yes, cheap at this price

    I’m sure the coffee is good, but like mail order meal kits, all of that packaging and delivery emissions is kind of terrible environmentally. Also, all the energy used to keep it frozen during packaging and transportation. Each pack has what 8 cups in it? Even if you order 4 at a time, that’s 32 cups, about the same you can get out of a pound of coffee, but with way more packaging and energy involved than just buying specialty coffee from a local roaster.

    Really enjoying my Ode gen 2. Curious if you see value in doing burr alignment on these grinders? I’ve been considering doing it, but not sure if it’s worth the time invested. I’ve heard some even say that it’s barely noticeable after aligning.

    Glaring issues with your methodology: (1) Not enough of a sample size for each group and (2) because of the first issue, you can't calculate if the difference in extraction is significantly difference.

    You avoided your own question...? Couldn't you just not use the base??? I am planning on creating my own base that doesn't have the sponge inside. I can clean the needles myself. I don't need them to be cleaned after every use.. I also don't like the massive microscope looking Autocomb.. Looks a bit silly don't you think?

    I bought this in black with walnut handles for pour over coffee and like it, even if I don't particularly like the kettle's aesthetic (never have). I've had it for months, and unless you've got it right under a bright light, those fingerprints probably won't bother you alll that much. Since I don't use it daily, I also like that I can set it to boil the water first and then drop it back down to 205 F automatically for pour over. If you do opt for the black and you have hard water you may notice a white spot here and there after it dries. Since I'm in rural California farm land with very hard water, I can say even this isn't much of an issue, since I can just rub the white away with my fingertip easily when it happens from time to time. What I don't like is that the kettle is connected to Wi-Fi but every time the power goes out or daylight savings time changes YOU, not IT, will have to change the time again. (That's so 1982 with the VCR flashing 12:00 over and over.) For this premium price, and given that it's connected to Wi-Fi already, it should do this automatically. If you opt for the wood handles version you should get food grade mineral oil and apply, then rub away any excess with a paper towel once each month (per Fellow). (You can get food grade mineral oil elsewhere, but it's cheap at Target in the pharmacy section.) Bonus, this kettle makes a great no-spill watering vessel for plants in small pots. I also bought the Fellow Tally Pro scale, not so much because I love its aesthetic either or wanted a match, but solely for the Brew Asssist feature (which I love [no more need to add a couple beans or take a few away to reach a target weight]). Why the base of the kettle and the scale are two different heights side by side seems like a missed opportunity for an harmonious design match between the two, especially when the difference isn't even all that much. It would have been a slicker pairing if the bases were the same height exactly. The Tally Pro also doesn't come with any kind of mat to protect the weighing tray surface, so I'm sure over time, given that it's a textured surface, it's going to be worn here and there and not look very nice.

    Scheduling your kettle to turn on? Thats absurd. Makes sense on an espresso machine but not a kettle. How is just turning the kettle on when you want to use it a problem? I really don’t get that. Have we really become that lazy?

    • @upscalebohemian5372
      @upscalebohemian5372 10 місяців тому

      No one's forcing you to. Since I set the kettle to boil first and then drop the temperature back down to 205 automatically, I can see where this might be useful to someone even if I don't use it. That takes more time than just turning it on and getting to 205 without boiling first.

    Just finished my first cup with the Gen 2 grinder, straight away great chocolaty flavor and density. Crazy how using a new grinder with the same beans gives such a different cup (was using an M47 with the pour over burr). I feel I got lucky on this one, I just want a clean smooth cup, and I love chocolate notes - I think this grinder would be a home run for novice coffee peeps. I am using a Chemex with Lifeboost coffee (my stomach likes these beans). Now I can move my M47 back to espresso where it belongs.
