    From what i remember it was very heavy on the Pentium 4, you'll need like 3.0- 3.2 Ghz P4 and even then it will drop below 40 fps from time to time, the game was ahead of its time.

      Oh yeah, this thing's a 3.4GHz and I can still only get to 64FPS in the Lost Coast benchmark even at 800x600 medium settings. That's what I decided to stick with, the game still hiccups and has some problems but I refuse to make it look like a potato or go down to 640x480. Best could be stick to Windows 98SE and put there GeForce 4 MX440 or 4Ti and play older games. For XP best is to use at least Core 2 Duo/Phenom II cpu's with fast PCIe videocard.

      TY, and I agree, I've found XP isn't too bad on Pentium 4/Athlon XP/Athlon 64 systems but that is my personal experience. I have quite a few Pentium III machines now, and so I've been trying to make each one somewhat different to have more variety. I have one that runs Windows 2000, one that runs Windows ME, and one I will soon be installing Windows 98 SE on. Started to run out of different Windows versions to go with LMAO

      @@fiveleggedspider But for example Gothic II at city at 300% drawing distance can put on its knees even fast Pentium IV (like 640 for Socket 775) or Athlon 64. For some later XP games from 2006 could be also good to have a lot of cpu power. Pentium IV and Athlon XP could be great for Windows 98SE, it can be very smooth on them.

    • @fiveleggedspider
      @fiveleggedspider 4 дні тому

      @@modernandretrogaming I have never personally played Gothic II, though looking up the release date and seeing game footage, yeah I could see a CPU running at clock speeds much, much higher (as well as architectural changes) than what was around when it was released not running it better as a problem. I also have personal experience to back that up, Half-Life 2 has problems at any settings higher than 800x600 medium details on my Pentium 4 550. I also have a Dell OEM GeForce 6800 (standard PCI-e version) in it, so that may be a contributing factor to its speed though in my experience the speed at higher resolutions depends more on the CPU than the video card. Unfortunately, I do not have a Core2Duo system at the moment (I'd like to have an E8600), if I did I also have a BFG nVidia GeForce 7950 GT OC I could throw in there and I know there is no way that is going to be stuck at 800x600 in HL2 LMAO

      @@TheDzhoel That is wild, what kind of passive cooling are you using? Also as far has XP/98SE era goes there is a large in-between area from 2000 to about 2003 or 2004 where drivers were made for 98SE and XP both. For DOS games you just need to make sure you have something with decent OPL support like a SoundBlaster Vibra 16S (16C is sometimes OK but not true OPL2/3), or an ESS AudioDrive 1868 or 1869. I mention those here because that's about all that's affordable, there are all sorts of other solutions though. If you wanted one machine for both XP and 98SE at once, dual-boot or having a 3.5" hdd caddy installed in the front of the case to switch hdds are probably the best options. hey, this actually looks so cool but i had a question. were the light and power button connectors proprietary? i wanna make a similar build, but i don't want to take apart my computer to find out it's incompatible with the case.

      Ty! So for this case the connectors are proprietary, but it wasn't too bad. I just unclipped the contacts from the big connector they were attached to, and put them into smaller standard connectors from another ATX case I had. The wires were very easy to trace to each LED and the power button. The front USB 2.0 ports on this PC use a standard cable. I am unable to use the audio jack on the front panel because it is an entirely proprietary connector, so I just unclipped the contacts from the little connector that plugs into the front panel USB/3.5mm PCB. All the changes I made to the case are entirely reversible, in case I ever wanted to put an old Dell motherboard back in it.

      @@fiveleggedspider that actually sounds really interesting! would it be possible to ask you for any help if i were to do a similar mod myself?

      @@star_greeeen I could make a video on it at some point if you wanted. The biggest pain about it is not breaking the little plastic clips that hold the contacts in, I usually just slide a razor blade under the plastic clip very gently and tilt up slightly to be able to pull the contact out. After that you can slide it into an empty ATX clip and it will click into place. The contact block that connects to the USB header works exactly the same way, though the contacts and clips are tiny so it is harder to do.

    Ahhh good to see my old friend Duke Nukem. Played so many 100's of hours back in the day, a lot head to head with a high school buddy. Can still hum the main theme song in my sleep lol.😅 And of course og Doom and Wolfenstien kicked off my love for FPS games.😅
