OUTER WILDS: Elegy for the Rings (Metal/Post-Rock Cover)
One of my favourite moments from the Outer Wilds DLC, 'Echoes of the Eye', given a spooky post-rock/metal treatment. (I strongly recommend playing both Outer Wilds and Echoes of the Eye, if you haven't already, before listening to this!)

Bro understood the assignment
just stumbled upon this, absolute fire cover!
This is gorgeous. Can't stop listening to this.
One of my friends once said that he liked how the Owlks' main instruments were strings. This remix takes that to a whole new level.
Crazy YT didn't recommend this to me until now smh, amazing work!
I rarely write comments, but this time I want to say a huge thank you for this masterpiece. It's been on repeat for three months now. this is the best thing I've heard. (sorry for the mistakes, I'm not English)
After having reset my settings for Infinite because of reinstall and finding out I actually really like the music at least by itself, man.... This is awesome
This is soooooooooooooooooooooo good! Can't stop replaying it!
I discovered 65daysofstatic through No mans sky and love the game and its music. This seem like the perfect combination of the two soundtracks. Love it.
Oh my god I’m getting chills from the first 5 seconds
Cryign,,,
Anyone else hear "God Rest Ye Merry" in the melody?
the Owlk dying at the very end was a great detail! Amazing cover!
This cover is so much better than I thought initially. I loved it. It's become one of my favorite songs, period. However, it mirrors the species' journey quite well. It begins with an ominous, somewhat mysterious tone. It gives you something to entice you. It enters the primary section, which you could read as anger or action. The 'metal'. The next section I read as a mix of regret and hope. It's beautiful. It's an attempt at finding peace. Finally, we enter the rejection. A relapse in anger. The species let themselves lose their humanity (owl-manity?). They let themselves die. Finally, they are lost. The song ends in anger. Obviously I'm reading into it more than is likely there. I just love this song a lot.
Masterpiece well done.
Can we get your tabs?
Dang it, who gave the hatchling a gun?
Dude, 4:40 totally blew my mind. Like 3 tone downsteps from e back to F#, back to E, and it perfectly fits. That's your addition, right?
Thank you! The little guitar solo is something I added, yes
@@joshualee5473 Awesome! The whole song just hits so hard, I keep coming back to it, it's a perfect adaptation to a genre that's a perfect fit for it. You kept all the essentials, added from the library and then put your own spin to it. Did you notice Andrew tuned down during River's End, and that's why you move from E to F when the song opens up?
A year has passed and I keep coming back to this absolute masterpiece
Incredible!! Love the arrangement, and absolutely fantastic production :) congrats!
Thanks for the kind words!
this made me interested in metal/post rock, whats a metal/post rock album you like, thats the most like this track?
I was very directly inspired by the album ‘Memorial’ by Russian Circles while making this cover, maybe check that out 👍
@@joshualee5473 I will, thanks :)
this absolutely fucking rocks
I'm surprised by how well metal fits with this track, but it makes sense now that I think about it. Given what the people went through, they'd definitely make metal music to express their anguish.
Ian Jacobson, one of the concept artists has a shirt design under the merchandise section of his Artstation that is a drawing of the Owls in that kind of spiky metal style. Sadly it seems sold out, but it fits them amazingly well. I'm kinda inspired to make an animation with this track now. Imagine how terrifying it would be to have this playing as they chase you (I have no skills in animation whatsoever.)
we gettin out of the dream world with this one !!!!
this goes so hard, great work dude! love that sludgy guitar tone. great use of the Owlks' screams during the acoustic section as well!
cheers, glad you enjoyed it!
This is why the owlks don't mind spending (almost) eternity in their virtual world, they're playing FIRE in there🔥🔥🔥
And we're playing with fire to get there
Well this is going in my "Good songs," playlist.
This song is new to me, But I am honored to be apart of it.
Incredible cover. Also, glad you changed the description (although it does have doom metal influence, I think too many people were expecting to hear something influenced by Mick Gordon).
This slaps so hard it should be nicknamed Nicholas cage
The intro gives red dead 2 vibes and now I want a mod that adds this song to the game
Never would have thought a metal Elegy would sound so good! Sounds just as eerie and beautiful as the original but at the same time much more epic. Amazing cover
man this goes SO HARD
A year later, and I still love coming back to this masterpiece.
Thank you, I’m glad to hear you’re still enjoying it! Likewise I still go back to the Outer Wilds soundtrack all the time
this is really sick, nice job
WOW! NICE! 🤩 good job!
Something I didn't know I wanted.
Honestly I think the tempo's too slow for Doom, and the acoustic guitar bits don't fit that style at all. But also I love this track as it is, and wouldn't change it in any way.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_metal
very nice, i love it
The people in the comments not knowing what Doom Metal is and making forced references to the game DOOM are beyond embarrassing
When two of my worlds collide beautifully
The Owlks when they saw the eyes true message:
This goes so much harder than I expected, good shit
If i had a nickel for every time an outer wilds EoTE song was remixed into a badass doom metal version i would have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.
Excellent work. The buildup is so well executed and the result is just so powerful. I was also sitting here watching the video like "man it would be so sick if the owlks vanished due to the flood when the song ends" and THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID what a fine detail.
"The Nomai" track from the OST would also make for an incredible funeral doom cover. Imagine those slow, atmospheric, plodding riffs as a piano plays that somber melody. I can already picture it in my head. You know what? I'm gonna try it.
I have a feeling that too many comments here don't understand that "Doom metal" doesn't have anything to do with Doom (1993, 2, 3, 2016 or Eternal). Hell, the Doom soundtrack is barely even metal if you remove the guitars.
Too fast! Just kidding, this is pretty good.
It is a little too fast for proper doom metal, thanks for the kind words!
Please release this to Spotify if you haven't already! A lot of people would appreciate it!! Keep up the good work
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??? O.o Nice job bro
