Question : I recently ran into the HDD going dead ..... nothing doing. I have a good spare SSD but it has windows 10 on it. How can I install that in the mac and get it to wipe it or erase and format to install mac OS Sierra ?? Is it even possible ?

My issues is that I have a iMac 2013 and it’s stuck on the MacOS Sierra. Just sits on the blue line for hours and even over night. Then messed around and it won’t even erase the other TB drive and then sits on it overnight as well. And then the MacOS base x er whatever it’s called is like locked. Please help. Trying to just factory reset it so I could sell it.

I was given a MacBook Pro and it hasn’t been updated for years. I tried to update and now it keeps restarting. I made a system backup but unable to get it to go into Mac utility mode. Did a diagnosis test and found nothing wrong. Tried the command r tried the shift tried the option for internet recovery. Still nothing. I have mostly windows computers. I do have and iPhone and iPad. Any help is greatly appreciated.

hello, Maybe you can help. I have a power mac that wont go into recovery mode no matter what. I have a failing HDD that wont dismount so I can clone it to a ssd. I tried using the terminal to eject and unmount but I have a dissenter (PID) blocking the dismount. I tried safe booting and resetting the keyboard, then command r, then opt-comm-R. All I get is the login page while my HDD sounds like somebody eating a bag of Doritos in the corner of the room. Yes, no one else mentioned opt-com-r.

Hi DrCyberLogic. many thanks for your video and instructions although I am sorry t say that I am still at a complete lost as I am not clever at all when it comes to computer technical things. My problem at the moment is that I have an old MacOS X from back in 2009 and unfortunately although it had been working and using Mac High Sierra perfectly up to a few t days ago, then I did something stupid and accidentally removed or deleted some of the most essential software programs and now find myself that I am not able to see the main HD or get the actual windows for Recovery or installation of any new software such as a new High Sierra. I thought I could over come all the issues by inserting the original Installation of MacOS X that came with the Mac when I first bought it and also unless I insert this DVD I am not able to see anything at all on the computer. I have used this DVD before to re-install the MacOS X software and it worked perfectly, but now it doesn't seem to want to do anything. If you think you might be able to share any advice or help me to sort it out, I would be happy to explain things a little further in order for you to be able to understand it better. Unfortunately the Apple support members have given up on me as I also have problems with the Keyboard and the mouse, so I have been left in the lurch so of thing. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward and I hope to hear from you soon, as you seem to know far more than I could ever know about computers. Kind regards John E

While I haven't yet found a better solution, you need to remember that it's important to keep certain video files as they are, since some videos need to be certain filetypes to retain certain data they have (MKV can have multiple audio tracks while MP4 *can not*). Keep this in mind when using handbrake, and also realize that you might be removing quality or creating a file that's bigger than the original, depending on the bitrate you set, as well as changing special colorspaces and/or datasets in the file. Just keep these things in mind, watch your filesizes, audio tracks and all of that before using this.

I can't get this to work, as my old iMac used rEFInd which would automatically load and not let me do Internet Recovery. does anyone know what to do about that?

I have an Imac I deleted the iIOS but after I deleted it I couldn’t reload the IOS because i lost wifi connection. I couldn’t log on to wifi because the keyboard is bluetooth and it wouldn’t pair up so I took the batteries out of Imac keyboard reiserted and it found it. the disk utility screen dissapeared and I had no way of getting back to it I tried Comman + R but that did not bring the disc Utility menu back. Any advice to what I can try. When I push command are it is in constant mode of searching for keyboard and mouse. cannot pair the keyboard or mouse now. Any help greatly appreciated.

Help needed! My friend has an iMac 2013 and after a power failure it doesn’t boot, after running disk utility it reports the HDD is unformatted and smart error. I can’t run First Aid even if I select the disc, the disc also report a size of 4.14GB, actual size is 1TB. Tried to install Homebrew and testdisk from the Terminal to recover the partition but it throws up a syntax error. Can I run testdisk from a USB drive? Or anything else I can do to recover the partition?
